My Dynasty RB List -- PPR (1 Viewer)

I'll be yet another to say Portis is too low. His trade value isn't that high until you actually own the guy...then you realize how criminally underrated he is.

Production wise, he needs to be a lot higher on your list. I would take him over Forte, Slaton, Kevin Smith, Barber, Pierre Thomas, without thinking twice.

Not sure if you noticed, but this is a DYNASTY RB list. Production wise for 2009 he might outscore Forte or Slaton or Smith, but value-wise in a dynasty, I'll take those guys over Portis easily. As for Barber and PT, it's much closer than when I first posted this as I've cooled on PT and Barber is worrying me even more. Depends on team makeup, but I can see taking Portis over both of them.

I noticed this is dynasty. In redrafts I might take Forte over Portis, but Clinton would still be ranked over the other guys.In dynasty, I don't generally worry more than a few seasons out - and at that time Portis will be nearing the end of his line. But he's a sure thing to finish top 10 each year as long as he stays healthy.

We're talking about a potential future hall of famer. I believe there's a very good chance Portis doesn't have a significant fall off until he's 31/32 (which is when elite rb's tend to falter, not at the age of 30 that people seem to think).

I think Forte, Slaton, Smith, Barber, and Thomas are all inferior to Portis (talent wise). I just don't believe any of those players are elite talents - and when it comes to dynasty, I'll take the elite talent over the elite situation nearly every time.

I'm not at all saying I wouldn't love to have those other guys on my dynasty team - just that I believe Portis will score more than all of those guys for the next three years at minimum, and up to five.

We're not talking about Tomlinson, who is about to turn 30. Or Westbrook, who can't stay healthy. Portis is still fairly young. He has a history of durability at a violent position despite getting lots and lots of touches. He's been the focal point of different teams and multiple offensive schemes, yet he's thrived in every situation.

He's an absolute stud. I actually have him ranked higher in dynasty leagues than redrafts, but he's as close to a lock as you can get for top 10 production for the next several years.

Heck, I was not on this bandwagon before last season started because I was arguing how he had lost his speed. He wasn't ripping off 20+ yard runs (6 total from 06-07). What does he do last year? He ties his career high with 13.

And he's a model of both consistency (guaranteed to finish top 10 if he's healthy), but to actually stay healthy! In his 7 year career, he's missed 12 games - with 8 coming in one season!

He plays every game. He gets lots of touches. He DOES something with those touches. He stays healthy. His floor is 1,500 yards and 8 touchdowns. I will gladly take that for the next several years than watching Barber lose carries to Felix or Choice. I would take that over Smith and his second half production (many guys have done that before to fall back to nothingness...it's not like he was a top 5 pick). I can see someone taking Forte over that, but I'm not a believer in his talent. I think he's a mediocre player in a good situation and will get replaced as soon as they get the chance (Addai v.2).

Always fun to come back and look at this. Some guys obviously should be shifted around, definitely missed on some, but for the most part I wouldn't change the top of this list too much still.

The one glaring omission is Ray Rice who I'd vault as high as tier 3 at this point. Couple people I trust were very high on him and turned out to be right on point on him. I would also move Ronnie and Benson much higher than I have them but still don't think I'd change anything from tiers 1-5 with the exception of adding Rice. I would put Ronnie/Benson in tier 5, where at this point, I'm still not sure.

You have a 26 year old starting RB(Addai) in the 9th tier.....Why do you hate the Colts?
24 RBs in front of Westbrook in PPR? Getting him in the 3rd round of a start-up dynasty will help you win for the next 3 years running.
I'd wager anything you'd like that Westbrook will not be a fantasy factor (top 20 RB) in 2 yrs, let alone 3 yrs.
You and everyone else for the past three years running. And they were wrong. But I would gladly bet you that in 2010 he will be a top 20 back in PPR.Westbrook was 2nd in PPG in PPRs last year and started all but 2 games. He was 2nd in PPG in PPR the year before starting all but 1 games.Whyever would you imagine he has only 1 season left? Oh yeah, youth equals great dynasty value and experience and past history equal deth knell. I remember now.
:)I love coming back and looking at these a year later. Was definitely off on a few but overall was close on enough. I'll try and get a new list out soon.

I dunno Gian. You did a good job of putting the the obvious choices at the top of your list, but after that I'm not sure.

#8, 9, 10, 11 and 15 on your list will have little or no value two years after you posted your dynasty list.

Meanwhile you whiffed on Mendenhall, Stewart, Felix and Rice. And you didn't even list Charles.

Considering that four of those five are top ten RB picks one year later, and Felix will probably join them after this year... well...

No doubt tier 5 turned into a disaster. That said, the "obvious" choices weren't really obvious choices. For starters, I had S. Jackson and DeAngelo higher than most and Forte lower than most (and shoulda trusted my feelings about him and put him lower). Grant and PT significantly higher than most others with Lynch and Ronnie considerably lower than most others. Not sure Stewart was a "whiff" either as I mentioned for a rebuilding team he'd be much higher (likely top 5). There are definitely lots of misses. But, there's always huge turnover at RB with guys getting injured and losing significant value and young players breaking through. I'm not trying to proclaim I hit it out of the park with that list AT ALL and it also changed a good bit heading into the season (this was done in June of last year). I just don't mind bumping it to look at it, reassess, and try to find out where I went wrong as well as others.
