My Fantasy League Commissioners... (1 Viewer)

12 Team League, 8 Playoff spots (although this post applies to pretty much anyone's league)

We've used MFL.com for the last 3 seasons and one of the league members just brought this up last night.

The current format starts off as you would think...

ROUND 1

1 vs 8

4 vs 5

7 vs 2

6 vs 3

ROUND 2

Winner of (1 vs 8) VS Winner of (4 vs 5)

Winner of (2 vs 7) VS Winner of (3 vs 6)

One of the league members was wondering why Round 2 isn't "re-bracketed" so that the highest seed is always matched up against the lowest available seed (like it's done in the NFL).

I have a pretty detailed rule book that covers pretty much everything you can think of (except obviously this one).

I'm probably going to leave it as is, but I think I may be able to fix it if it's fixable (looks like there is only one way handle the brackets after you've seeded the teams).

this is one of my few complaints at MFL....setting up th ebrackets and making adjustments is sometimes difficult.....

sorry I'm not answereing your question, but until I get in and start trying it, I can't remember the best way....

Been with MFL a few years. Our league rules state that the #1 seed after the bye then gets to play the lowest remaining seed. So, after the first round games conclude, I just go into the commissioner tools and flip around 3-6 (or 8 in your case). Just send a message to your league in advance and you should be just fine.

good luck.

12 teams, 2 conferences, 4 divisions. 6 teams make the playoffs

Team with the best record in each conference gets a first round bye. The other division winner in each conference plays the wild card team in week 14. The wild card team in each conference is the team with the best record not to win a division.

week 14: A1 and B1 have byes, A2 vs. A(w) and B2 vs B(w)

week 15: A1 vs winner of A2\A(w) and B1 vs winner of B2/B(w). These matchups determine the conference champions

week 16: conference champions play each other for the championship.

Our league re-seeds after each round. It takes a little extra work with MFL but it's not a huge deal.

Another thing that we do: the worst division winner gets the #4 seed, not the #3 seed. In the past, we've had grumblings from #4 seeds (usually very good teams who finished just behind the #1 seed) who get stuck with crappy 1st-round and 2nd-round matchups because a weak division winner was ahead of them in the seeding.

I think a 1st round bye for the top two teams would fix my issue, but in my league we have 3 divisions. The top 2 teams in each division fill out the top 6 seeds and then we have 2 wildcard spot.I plan to fix this next season to where the top teams in each division will get the top 3 spots and then have 5 "wild card" spots...When you say it takes a little extra work with MFL, do you mean I have to contact them and have them fix it the way I want? Or is it something that I (as commish) can address myself?

Yeah, you can re-seed after the 1st round is in the books.

I do this exactly as well. Pretty easy.

Somehow I looked over this one... :goodposting:

If you have 8 teams make the playoffs, why not just allow the league in, or not play a regular season...?

:nerd: Maybe because 8/12 is the perfect balance between "fantasy football is fun" and "I hate fantasy football"?

Really? My league is a group of good friends that are just in it to have a good time (and hopefully win a little bit of cash). It's not serious business like it is, apparently, to you.

Besides, having 8/12 teams in the playoffs keeps everyone interested (and active) much further into the season. Here we are in the final week of our regular season, and just one team is really out of contention (due to our 3 divison format). So pretty much everyone is still making moves (adding $ into the pot since we charge $1 per acquisition), and more importantly, talking trash and having a fun.

You should try it sometime. :lmao:

What I have in a couple of my redrafts is a weekly prize for most points in a league, then in another, a toilet bowl so if you don't make the playoffs, you still have a shot to make half your entry back. Plus I'm very competitive! :goodposting:

Need some MFL commish help (keepers).

Is there a way to set it up so owners can pick their keepers (22 of them) on the site and the ones they don't mark to be kept get automatically dropped at the deadline date and time that is setup on the site (August 21 at 11pm)?

Yes.

1) Go to COMMISSONER > SETUP > KEEPER SETUP to set up the maximum and minimum # of players a team may keep.

2) Then COMMISSONER > SETUP > LEAGUE CALENDAR SETUP to set up the date teams can begin selecting their keepers and the deadline (August 21st, 11 pm)

Teams can then go to REPORTS > FRANCHISE > KEEPERS to select their keepers.

Hmm. That's what we had, but Keepers does not show up anywhere to be selected.
I'm shooting in the dark if I try to diagnose without seeing it... but a couple things come to mind:

1) Have you transferred your rosters already? I'm assuming so, but making sure.

2) Remember you have to go to REPORTS > FRANCHISE > KEEPERS to select keepers. It is an odd place for it, for sure (I didn't know where to look the first time). Would make more sense under the FOR OWNERS menu.

3) When using the league calendar setup did you use the MFL pre-packaged keeper time frame option? If you created a custom calendar item instead, the website shows it on the calendar but does not take action on it. Custom events require manual attention.

4) If you did use the MFL pre-packaged keeper time frame did you set a start date as well as the deadline?

If none of these help, your best bet is MFL's customer support. They can look at your league and sort out the issue, if there is one.
