My Fantasy League "Watched Players" Question (1 Viewer)

strong

Footballguy
Quick question to see if anyone else has noticed this before. I'm posting this here since this forum has many mfl users and I think it's fantasy relevant since it's not so much a technical web question but more of an issue of tipping off other owners in an MFL league as to the players I'm "watching".

I'm the commissioner of (and owner in) a league that uses myfantasyleague as the web host. I've noticed that when I visit the site without logging in, the default roster is my own. For example, the "My Newest News Articles" link to my players and the module "My Players Photos" are my players.

Normally, I couldn't care less that other league members will default to my roster when they log in. However, I've noticed that when adding players to My Watch List, news relating to those players will appear in the My Newest News Articles. And when I visit the site without logging in, news articles regarding these players are still mixed in with news regarding players on my roster. (My specific watch list is blank if I'm not logged in, so other owners should not be able to see my whole list in the My Watch List module.)

This means that whenever I watch a player, other owners are more likely to see news relating to that guy. Again, not a big deal, but... if I'm hoping a guy flies under the radar during a blind bidding period or if I want to keep tabs on a guy that I may pick up later in the year for dynasty purposes, I don't really like having the rest of the league tipped off that I'm keeping on eye on a certain guy and news related to him.

Have any of you MFL owners noticed this? Gotten a head's up on players the Commissioner's watching? Or have any Commissioners noticed this or contacted MFL regarding it? Thoughts? Thanks!

(Edit for clarity)

either you are paranoid or that information is being saved on a cookie on your computer which means you are not effecting anyones newsfeed.

Didn't think it could be a cookie issue since it's only the My Newest News feed and nowhere else. I just tried it with incognito browser and I still saw players I'm watching.

Currently, I only have Matt Forte, Josh Freemen, and Jake Locker on my Watch List--I don't have any of them on my team and other than Alshon Jeffery, i don't have any players that should have related news reports.

Here's the link: http://www25.myfantasyleague.com/2012/home/32485#0

Let me know if news about Forte, Freeman, and Locker show up in the My Newest News feed located on the News & Notes tab. Thanks

(ETA: Josh Freeman)

Don't worry, when they see your watch list has Jake Locker on it they'll automatically dismiss it thinking you're trying to trick them.

See one for forte

Here's what I see when I go to the linked page and click on News.*Note - I don't use the watch lists on MFL, so it very well could be a cookie thing.

Thanks. That's what I suspected.

The link from the My 5 Newest News Articles module in the News & Notes tab is very long and includes several player IDs: http://football25.myfantasyleague.com/2012/news_articles?L=32485&PLAYERS=10273,9851,8658,9441,10388,9450,9902,9830,8934,10722,3579,8917,9089,7401,10708,9933,8371,9122,10279,9460,

(The link called My Player News in the League Links module in the Main Tab isn't a problem. That link is short: http://football25.myfantasyleague.com/2012/news_articles?MYNEWS=1&L=32485.)

I sent MFL a message and they got back to me--said it would take them a couple days to figure out the problem.

But a heads up to all other commissioners/owners: If you're Watching players, other league members may get news items about those players if you use the My 5 Newest News Articles module.

Thanks for looking. Was that from clicking on the My Players News link in the League Links module located on the top left of the home page? Because i get that message when I click that link when I'm not logged in. Or did you get that after clicking the News & Notes tab and then clicking "View All My News Articles" located at the bottom of the My 5 Newest News Articles?

HahaI actually cleared my Watch List and added a few players with a lot of recent news items just to check. But... if MFL can't fix the problem, then I'm definitely going to use it for a little trickery.

I can't imagine anyone going to the trouble of stalking you in a very convoluted manner to see the players you have some sort of interest in.

Sounds like you are insanely paranoid to me.

Haha I think insanely is probably a tad much. But it's something MFL is interested in fixing. And I thought other commissioners would want to know that news about their watched players will show up if they use a frequently used module. That's all.

If anyone's curious about this, MFL sent me an email stating that they found the reason for the problem and have fixed the link within the website's "My 5 Newest News Articles" module.

Starting tomorrow, while logged out of MFL but visiting your MFL league page the "My 5 Newest News Articles" module will no longer automatically link to players both on the commissioner's roster and on the commissioner's watch list.

Thanks to those here that took the time to check out my league page and follow the link.

does anyone know if they fixed this?

yes. as of yesterday, the URL from that module only includes IDs of player that are on my roster. it no longer includes IDs of players on my watch list.
