My League is Changing Starting Requirements (1 Viewer)

My league will be altering the starting requirements this year. It is a 12 team PPR dynasty.

QB - start 1

RB - start 0-2

WR - start 2-5

TE - start 0-2

K - start 1

DEF - start 1

So basically there is no boundaries between RB-WR-TE as you could run with 5 WR, 1RB4WR, 2RB3WR1TE....etc.

Anyone else have experience with this style of play?

I kind of like it, like a "choose your own adventure" amongst the RB/WR/TE positions. I'd have to think with no mandatory TE starting requirement, you'd likely go heavy at RB/WR with week-to-week potential points, save the elite tier TE's.

My league is close to this only max starting at RB is 2 and you can start up to 5 WR or TE's. It is a blast to play and makes trades a little easier it seems.

When were you notified of the change?

Any change to starting lineups or scoring has to wait 2 years in my league as teams have built their teams for particular settings.

At every draft we vote on any changes. We agreed to have this change occur for this coming season (at last years draft). So basically a one year wait period for changes that pass.

I'm in a similar league, but we do have to start 1 each TE, RB, WR. Then there are 3 flex at any positions. I love it. You can build a team in so many ways, bye weeks are much easier to account for and you don't have to be beholden to positions at the draft. This year I made the playoffs with Roddy White as my only decent WR because my other position groups were so deep.

Never seen a 0RB league, but I wouldnt see any need to draft any position other than QB and WR in this format. I felt the same way about 1 RB leagues, but at least those keep you honest by requiring that you have at least enough RBs to start 1 and for bye/injury weeks.ETA: My comment above is for a startup draft. Rookie RBs will still have some value in the draft, but not nearly as much as they would in a 2RB min league. Since this is an existing league, you cant choose team makeup other than to trade RBs for WRs. In that case, I would be trying to trade any stud RBs for comparable stud WRs if you can do so without overpaying too much under the old value system.

I figured I would get a laugh for my roster. Dumb luck with trading for future picks has helped me a ton in that league. The problem is that I have a challenging time getting anyone to trade with me any longer.

I am afraid this thread has gotten away from me. I am aborting mission.

I wrote an article many moons ago on flex systems. The typical thing I see is that average FF players over-value RBs in these systems, but you have to pay attention to what's happening in your league specifically. Essentially, RB, WR, and TE are virtually identical positions in this league, so you should be selecting based on which one will score the most points. VBD is largely out the window except to compare position players to QBs.

Thanks for the link CB. Good points on consistency between RB/WR.

I got great WR and sucky RB lets change the lineup rules.Brilliant!
I would love to take credit for campaigning for this change but the commissioner was the one who out of the blue made the suggestion. He obviously had my support. I think it creates more parody in the league as it gives more options to the less talented squads. It should be fun to see how this shakes out.

I like a minimum of one player at each position to preserve the value in positional scarcity. This system is a little screwy. Why not allow 1 WR? Why not more than 2 RBs?

I think the goal from the commish was to simulate the real NFL as much as possible. You don't see too many formations with 3 rbs....although it is a point worth bringing up.
