I dunno. Anything that takes your eyes off the road is a disaster waiting to happen. Projecting it onto the base of your windshield is still going to take your attention/eyes off of the road.

It's less of a "look away" than the current touchscreens that most newer cars have. It's probably the same level of distraction but at least it's not looking all the way away from the road. Also, I'm guessing that since it uses your car's OBD2 that a lot of devices like Automatic and Delphi are probably pretty nervous about this thing, as they should be.I dunno. Yeah, that's true (the part about car manufacturers moving this way). I'm not completely against it by any means, I just don't see how it is THAT much safer than the phone. Anything that takes your eyes off the road is dangerous. Your line of sight when you're driving is not right over the dashboard, it's through the middle of the windshield, looking ahead of you. The display on this seems to draw your eyes down. It's less of a "look away" than the current touchscreens that most newer cars have. A lot of new premium car makers (as well as Mazda) are including this type of front-windshield display in their new cars.
But pilots use it!Yeah, that's true (the part about car manufacturers moving this way). I'm not completely against it by any means, I just don't see how it is THAT much safer than the phone. Does it do turn by turn and other phone integration? I see videos where it does just things like mph and fuel, but that's pretty useless. But pilots use it!Yeah, that's true (the part about car manufacturers moving this way). Seriously though, I believe a HUD is already included in modern corvettes (and likely other cars) and has been for a few years so this isn't new technology. It's just the portable/affordable part that's new. I haven't heard about it causing any issues on Vettes or luxury cars that use it.
And I agree with Ahrn that it's less of a lookaway than stuff that people already look away for, including GPS/phones and even the radio.
Okay, fair enough. I'm not that passionate about it, but its just not something that I can get behind 100%. I agree with the fact that it is less distrscting than other devices, though. But pilots use it!Yeah, that's true (the part about car manufacturers moving this way).
