3RR in order for this given the huge drop off in elite talent?
:goodposting:
I'm not sure it's worth doing for this. Drafting before the season with no transactions at all makes it sort of a crap shoot anyway. Add in the extra dimension that none of us are Whatifsports basketball experts, I feel like people could do just as well at the end of the draft as getting an elite talent early.I'm open to discussion about it though.

We could flip or have rookies be a "separate draft" and be eligible to be drafted only in round 18/19/20 like we did in BABFL.

Well, I am picking at the end of round 3. Picking at the beginning of round 3 sounds a lot better.Convinced?

When we drafted those rookies they weren't even drafted in real life yet. Seems to make no sense to have a separate draft for them now.

Still does. Gives teams who miss out the the for sure elite talent a chance to nab a dynamic rookie to bloster their bench/starting lineup.Teams at the top of the even rounds get first dibs on the rookies and can plan accordingly.

:goodposting: That's a rock solid argument right there.

I don't know, if you're starting with James, Durant, Howard, Wade etc; you are starting off with a huge advantage. And the talent drop off is steep so it is difficult to make up. If this was a 12-16 team league or something I'd say, yeah, a simple serpentine probably would work, but this is a 24 (28?) team league. Maybe the WIS scoring format will help mitigate the talent gap I don't know - first time playing in one.

Made a lot more sense in a dynasty format. In a one and done format it's not such a big bonus and it's certainly not making up for the elite talent loss. This wasn't a James, Wade, Anthony type draft.

We should've had this argument before everyone knew their draft spot. Now we're all biased.

FWIW, we did a WIS league using the 05-06 season because they had a free team promotion. Serpentine draft. I won from the 23rd pick.

I have now attempted to do this 3 times, from 3 different computers. My first roll was 561. My second roll was 704. My third roll was 166. None of the rolls went through. I'm following your instructions. At this point I give up.If you want to roll for me, that's fine. I will trust you. I really don't care where I draft.
+1 My first roll was great so I was kinda hoping that eventually turned up, but go ahead and roll me a number Tre. I don't really care where I pick anyway and rolling is proving to be a pain.
+2I tried a number of times last night and again this morning, with no emails coming through. go ahead and roll for me but unlike these guys, I do care where I pick, so roll me as low as possible.
Whoa, how about a 38?1d1000, rolled once.Roll set 1Die rolls: 38Roll subtotal: 38Roll total: 38
you're the man, TRE.

Yah I don't really care much. Just offered a solution. Would rather drafting began. Is there a clock?

That's what gave me the idea for this one. You had Melo right?

Is there anyway to access the player ratings right now or do you have to pay $15?
Once you make an account there, you can go build an exhibition team for free. That gives you access to the full database of stats from past seasons.

I got swept in the Western Finals by a team I had a 7-1 regular season against.ETA: I think I was the only one to have both my teams make the playoffs!

How about a switching in the 5th instead of the 3rd? I'm middlish, so I have no dog in this fight, but the 3rd round seems a bit much.

Really hate the rookie idea.

Full and combined seasons from 2012-13. No salary cap, no clones, 15 man roster (I think).
Just to clarify.. if you draft a player you OWN that player's full season and/or combined seasons if they are traded? Also is there a draft clock or are we going on an honor system?

If they're traded you have to use their full season, no partials.I'm assuming there will be a clock, especially with the season less than a month away.

Yeah, no partial seasons...either full season or if traded "combined" season. We'll do a two hour clock on Monday. What do we usually do for hours? 9am-6pm for the drafter's local time?

As soon as all rolls are in, we'll start with no clock. That will give everyone time to prepare and see we've started.

Can we be a little lenient/generous with the clock thing? We're moving next week and I don't know that I'll be able to keep pace with the draft if it goes rapidly. I'd say I'd get lists out, but I probably won't have time to assemble them.

Agree. In the BABF draft there was no clock for most of the time (or else a 12 hour clock) and we got to round 15 (30 teams) in about 1 month. I'd be happy with a generous clock for the first 8 rounds at least and then you speed things up at the end depending on the time.

So will we need to actually join WIS for this? If so, what product? I see a SIM league basketball for $9.95. What is the $15 thing we're talking about??

Yeah I think it's the $10 one; you won't need to sign up until after the season though.

We won't need to join until the end of the basketball season. Good question.I can set us up a roto league to track our rosters/players and I'll need emails for that to invite everyone.
