NCAA Basketball Thread - 2022-3 Season (1 Viewer)

Personally, I would only trade Gonzaga for Houston, UCLA (doesn't make sense since they are playing each other) and Texas at this point.

UConn I wouldn't trade for anyone outside of Bama. I would hold on to these 2.

Kansas State is overrated and Nowell had a great game, but UK struggled all year with small quick guards. Michigan St beats them on Thursday. And Tennessee is way too limited offensively for my liking. They might make the Final Four based on their remaining bracket, but I don't think they stand a chance against Bama or Creighton or even San Diego St.

Hard to say any team is overrated in this year's tourney and the current landscape. K-State looked damn good to me, and I wouldn't underestimate a team like that. On fire with a great guard.

There's good reason the "dynasty-type" teams, or whatever you want to call them, are out already, for what, like the 3rd time in the last 40 years or some **** (some ESPN stat)? Obviously the landscape has changed and this thing is still pretty wide open. You can find holes in all of them, easily.

If I had to pick an overrated team right now, it would be your Michigan State pick. I suffered watching a handful of their games, due to a friend that went there, and even he was not so impressed. That said, Izzo's squad will get the benefit of the doubt, if you think reffing can play a part, as I do, so there is that. And sure enough, they are favored, which says a lot. One could argue, to my previous point, that a 7 seed should not be favored over a 3 seed, but nothing gets by Vegas.

In any case, they don't pass the "eye test" with me, but we'll see soon enough. I'm now thinking of actually making my first bet of the tourney. On K-State.

I do agree with your take on Bama, like most everyone else.

As for K-State "not standing a chance" against the other two (Creighton and SDSU). Totally disagree. Creighton is solid but by no means would K-State not stand a chance. And SDSU can be beat by many of those that are left. Stop Bradley. Aztecs have a great D that got em here and I would love to be wrong -- any surprise would be great -- but there's just not enough O there. It will show eventually.

Let's not forget that SDSU took out Charleston and Furman in getting here. Look, they're not getting by Bama but in the scenario of possibly matching up with K-State, I don't see how you can say that K-State would not stand a chance. The line alone on that matchup would signify a toss up, more or less.

The not standing a chance reference was in regards to Tennessee if they were to match up with those teams.

I don't disagree with you that Michigan State isn't overrated as well, but they do have one of the best NCAA Tourney coaches of all time on their side, so yes I am picking them over K-State. That is all, I'm not saying they are going on to win the whole thing.

Personally I don't think K-State is that good of a team. They have some great guards in Johnson and Nowell, but they matched up great with their first 2 opponents really well.

SDSU is a really solid team, especially on defense. If their offense comes to play against Bama then it could be an upset. With that being said however, I feel like the only team that can beat Bama is Bama itself. If they miss their 3's and struggle on defense, then watch out.

Nowell. 20 points, 19 assists, 5 steals.

It is crazy how much you hear the media and a lot of other people complain that college basketball is so bad because of the transfer portal, too many one and dones, or kids going to the G-league for a year, but when a good college player stays all 4 years, he is basically a dinosaur.

Timmay gets saved

As Tom Izzo would say "They got lucky"

Toms comments did come off as sour grapes but Izzo was frustrated as this is one of the weakest fields ever for a sweet 16 and he felt if they won this game who knows? This MSU team has lost 13 games so it is not vintage but there are no vintage teams left. With Tom nearing the end of his career he this was probably his last chance and was a little bitter at the outcome.

While is is all true, he can't act this way. This isn't some small time school with a young head coach making their first run in the tourney and it maybe their only chance at a final four or a title. He has been here many, many times and more than his fair share of luck.

In his region, sure. Overall? No way. Alabama, Houston, and UCONN are all legit in any year. Gonzaga is good. Xavier is good. Creighton is good. Texas is interesting.

it was a good night, but I could have used OT or the Bruins scoring a bit more during the 10+ minute drought.
Last night was a very good night - entertainment and wallet. Only ell was TEN 1H -3 and over 65

KSU ML and Nowell 30+ P/R/A +210
Uconn -4 and Over 72 +175
Gonzaga and UCLA 70+ pts +175
Don Mitchell 25+ and Timme 15+ +150
Timme 30+ P/R/A +100
Live bet Gonzaga ML at +220

I should take tonight off, but of course I won't.

He acted like a petulant 5th-grader. He's a HOFer - be better than that.

Izzo haters out in force this morning :lmao:

I'll admit Tom's lost a bit of his edge and is too old school and rigid (stubborn to change) in his coaching techniques, which probably hurt in their recruiting success. I respect the hell out of what he's accomplished and what he's done for the university.

I'm not a hater. I just think he should shut the hell up sometimes. This is coming from a guy who rooted for Gary Williams-coached teams and said the same.

Joey Hauser after the game.

That is what a coach should sound like. If Hauser said what Izzo said last night I would have no issue with it. He is young, his best chance to go to a final four and I believe his last college game.

Maybe Izzo should learn from his players.

Totally agree with the bolded

Noiiice.

Show me what you're working with tonight. I think I posted mine earlier, but here they are again.

Princeton +10
Miami / Houston 0138
SDSU +7
Xavier / Texas U149

I also put $100 on SDSU ML for a buddy that's an Aztec alum.

Zags definitely showed something in the second half, but their 70ish ranked defense showed, allowing 46 first half points. Third tourney game in a row where they had to play themselves out of a first half hole. They allowed 36 first half points to GCU, and 38 to TCU before this.

Their mediocre defensive ranking has been showing but so far has been covered up by late game heroics. Eventually, unless they figure out how to play in the first half, the luck and heroics will run out and Uconn seems to be on a roll.

I say this as a fan. No one who follows Gonzaga would have predicted an Elite 8 run 2 months ago.

That was one of the best tourney games I've watched in a while.

Nowell is going to be a helluva pro.

Great game to watch!! State far exceeded season expectations and u can’t win a game playing zero Defense all game.

Nowell will be lucky if he is a rotation player in the league.

For sure, but guys like that are great in college ball, he tore up MSU and cost me some $$$.

Also it seemed like nobody on State wanted the last shot. Hauser had a chance but passed it.

I was very disappointed that Hauser passed up that last shot especially how well he played in the second half.
No dog in this fight so I enjoyed the game (UConn fan so was OK watching at half and beyond), but I thought the same thing. I felt bad for #2 getting stripped because 2 guys passed up better shots only to put him in a bad spot of having to shoot with someone right on him and being a couple feet behind the line.

I was good with Hall passing up the shot (too streaky), but that location was right in Joey's wheelhouse.

Does UCONN beat Gonzaga? Got $1000 riding on them
I think Timme's gonna have a really hard time with UCONN's big guys. Gonzaga is going to need several of their other guys to play great. UCONN is a #1 seed in sheep's clothing.
They were 5th in KenPom pre-tourney and then got a 4 seed. Real whiz bang job by the committee.

UCONN started hot, beat Alabama early, and at one point they were ranked in the top 2-3, but then had a bad run where they lost 5 of 6 and finished 4th in the Big East. I saw them play Marquette in Milwaukee and loved the team, even though they lost that game.

This is crazy, because if you look at efficiency ranking since about mid-January, UConn is actually ranked #2 overall.

Haven't vetted parlay connectors beyond Bama yet, but my starting point is

Creighton 1H -6
Miami Over 60
Live bet Texas ML if they fall behind early

Planning on Bama -7 + Over 66 + Miller Over 26.5 P/R/A, but will reassess everything once boosts are out there.
