So do we all go back to not caring about NCAAW bball anymore?

It won't be the same without Clark but ESPN and the networks will shove it down our throats and try to tell us otherwise.

The misogyny in here is thick. Guys....it's okay to like women's sports. It doesn't make you any less of a man to say you liked it. Nobody is coming for your man card.

Yea it’s extremely insecure. We can like both. Men’s sports aren’t going away guys.

And it's okay not to like ones you don't find entertaining. Nothing to do with misogny

Saying a network is shoving women's sports down your throat is the very definition of misogyny.

Women's basketball, not all women's sports. Carry on with your narrative though if it makes you feel better.

Buddy, I'm not the one in here saying ESPN shoved this women's tournament down our throats. That was you.

15 million watched the game today. A lot of us watched it because we wanted to watch and not because it was thrust down out throats.

I feel fine. I don't need to feel better.

Exactly. So weird to see macho dudes latch on to this victim narrative.

It would be helpful if you read my post before you respond with what you think I wrote. I was discussing next year without Clark but for whatever reason you keep focusing on this year's tourney.

Bench points:

SC 34
Iowa 0

Even with Clark being as awesome as she is, this is not a fair fight.
Ended up being 37-0, just crazy.
38-0 Pretty F'ng amazing season
After losing all 5 starters to the draft last season too.
38-0 this year, 36-1 last year, 35-2 the year before that.
109-3 in that run, two National Titles and two SEC Tournament titles.

Not around here.

Staley is so awesome.

Hated to see either of these teams lose, but it was great to see SC finish it off. Felt right.

Sorry to interrupt whatever this is, but apparently Coach Cal is headed to Arkansas.
Kentucky has to have Dan Hurley in their crosshairs
Bama coach also. His team was all transfers and went to the semis. Hurley is probably better off staying at UConn, he doesn’t need a roaster of 5-star 1-and-done players to succeed.
Isn’t that more so how Calipari recruits? Would assume Kentucky would let Hurley recruit however he wants.

At this point, Kentucky would be a step backward from UCONN.
Program recent success, I agree. Contract $ for Hurley, don’t know if UCONN can compete with Kentucky.
I would think they could throw a big enough bag of money to get just about anyone. Most would agree Hurley is right there as the best coach in the game right now. I wonder if Jay Wright might be on their radar though?

Is it? I wonder how the salaries Kentucky will pay to its new head and assistant coaches will compare to what UConn is paying. I wonder how Kentucky NIL compares to UConn's. I wonder how the MBB annual budget at Kentucky compares to UConn's.

I would think there would be more money in every one of those categories at Kentucky, but I don't know that.

Leaving after back to back championships is a great time to leave unless he is intent on staying at UConn for the rest of his career. Of course, if he stays, he gets to try for 3 straight titles, which hasn't been achieved since 1973, the last year of UCLA's 7 consecutive championships 1967-1973. More than 50 years.

Kentucky is a difficult place to coach - it's definitely not for everyone. It takes a certain personality to survive not just the basketball job, but everything else that goes with being the head coach at Kentucky.

I am not sure Hurley would want to deal with all the "other stuff" - non-basketball related - at Kentucky for a few dollars more.

Cal is on ~$8.5M/year, I think Hurley is on ~$5M/year.

There is some room to upgrade, but I am not sure Kentucky would be a significant upgrade, for an initial contract but maybe they could put together a significant package for the right coach.

Yes, not sure that Hurley wants that type of player, or can he coach them up.

I don’t really get the shoving things down your throat angle, although I only watch ESPN to watch games and I skip commercials. The game yesterday was great and Clark is unreal.

On a somewhat related note that annoys me - why do they list the men’s and women’s scores together on ESPN front page? I like looking at both scores but it’s confusing when they list them together.

Part of my point is that it isn't only the head coach compensation that matters. It's also the compensation for the assistant coaching staff, the athletic department budget for MBB, and the NIL. If HC compensation differs by $3.5M or more, I have to believe all of those others would also be higher. That becomes pretty tough to turn down for most people.

I dunno anything about NCAA NIL money, but UCONN is at an intersection of a LOT of people, with not much big time hoops to compete with. I wouldn't be surprised if they have/can compete with anyone in that respect.

Lot of casino money there as well.

18.7 million people watched the women's national championship game.

Same number as the Washington-Texas CFP semifinal.

Higher than last year's Alabama-Georgia SEC championship.

To think, just two years ago, this same event drew 4.5 million.

Pretty crazy. I doubt the men’s game comes close.

I watched it at BWW yesterday. Place was packed at noon on a Sunday and folks were into it. As into it as I've seen here. Guarantee this place will be half full tonight, if that.

As much as I squawked about it yesterday, I do wonder if this is all driven by Caitlin Clark. She's definitely unique but will she take eyeballs with her to the WNBA? And what will women's college hoops look like without her?

18.7....my god.

It really is amazing.

It's a pretty wide window as to what it will draw next year. Could be anywhere from 5M to 20M.

Iowa-SC was one of the most highly anticipated games I've watched in a long time.

Even if tonight's game didn't come on past my bedtime, I'd have no interest in watching Bobby Hurley's DB brother waltz to another title.

Well it’s time. I’ve waited since I was 12 years old for this moment. Purdue sports was one of the only bonds I had with my dad…so this one’s for him.

Boiler Up…and let’s go. It’s going to be a very difficult task to win this game. They’ll need turn it over less than 9 times and shoot 40% from three and be even in rebounding. If they can do these three things…they’ll have a shot in the second half.

I'm on the West Coast and I think it's dumb too.

1. the time is dumb, yes. As it has always been since I started watching in the mid-80s as a kid. The apparent surprise of some that comment on it is a bit surprising since it's always been 9PM-- but that doesnt change the fact it's dumb.

2. Ive never liked Mondays for FB or Bball championships. Very un-festive.

3. The women let it be known that Fri-Sun is not off the table. Friday night has always had a bad reputation for drawing audiences which I think we all understood; but there's no getting around that the women's results will induce them to think about it a little. They'd love the Final at 6PM EDT Sunday if they can convince themselves that Friday evening semis wont hurt them.
