Tried to find the old thread but couldn't.

Before we get to the tournament this weekend - BIG news today:

College Hockey News @chnews
CHN has learned that Notre Dame will leave Hockey East for the Big Ten starting in 2017-18

Big Ten ripe for the taking - unreal how poor the hockey is in that conference.

Go Pioneers!
What happened to Minnesota and Wisconsin? (Meaning why aren't they good now?) Especially Wisconsin. Crazy.

Minnesota had a huge influx of young talent this year (lost half of their scoring from the seniors and NHL signings) and it was INCREDIBLY INCONSISTENT.  They should be a great bit better next year.  Casey Mittelstadt (Eden Prairie HS) could make the jump from high school to college but I'm thinking the Gophers throw him into the USHL for a year to get bigger.  But, I think he's ready now after watching the state tournament.

Wisky fell off the edge a few years back and hasn't recovered.

Minnesota has been pretty good, just not winning championships.  But to be fair, not what they once were.  Wisconsin is just a disaster.  The whole Big 10 thing really has ruined long standing rivalries that made MN hockey so great.  Not to mention they are on TV far less now with the Big 10, than they were before.  And I'm not even a MN fan!  Good get for them to land Notre Dame.  The NCHC was lobbying big time for them a couple years back.

My UMD bulldogs found a way into the tourney this year.  However, are looking at a tough row to hoe, opening with Providence and then getting most likely BC if they win (who plays Hahvard).  And all of this in Massachusetts!  But that is the bed they made by floundering mid season.  Should be fun!

IMO, the best teams this year were UND, SCSU, and Denver.  I don't know a whole lot about QU and Providence.

DU looked incredible since the new year.  They should be very dangerous in Saint Paul this weekend.

So for those who don't know about MI - they score a crazy number of goals. And also give up a lot.

Their top line is unbelievably good.

Glad to have Notre Dame in the Big Ten.  Big Ten hockey has not been anything to write home about since it began (FU Big Ten...I want the old WCHA back!!)

Tough loss for the Pioneers against SCSU in tourney - puck from behind the net off the butt of the Defensmen. DU  outplayed the Huskies in the 3rd by a mile but that goalie for SCSU is really really good. Hit posts and some wicked glove saves.

That CCM line is intensely good.  All are Hobey candidates and they should be.  Their Power Play is a thing of beauty, too.

@ffldrew

Catching any of the tournament this weekend in Denver?  I'd be a Pioneer fan against BU...but things could change if they play SCSU.  Could still make things fun over drinks.

I'm living in Georgia now - I come back often(still have my season tickets) - I'm hoping for a Tampa trip. I'm about 6 hour drive  from Tampa. Next time I'm in town maybe - although you are a Gopher fan - not sure I can take that. ;)

I might come back for Avs if they make the playoffs - but that's a pipe dream as of now.

My Frozen Four: QU, BC, SCSU (should have huge fan support in Saint Paul - But Denver is as good as anybody right now - Really tough call), and effing North Dakota (I don't want them to be here but they are tough, talented, and poised).

I think whoever comes out of Saint Paul wins the whole thing.

I'll be in Tampa as well.  Kinda nice being able to combine a guy's golf trip with some good college hockey.

Hoping my North Dakota boys make it, but they have a tough couple of match ups to get through.  Northeastern might be the hottest team in the country and UND gets them right away, followed by likely that great Michigan offense.  Should be fun.

Half the tournament field is from New England, including the first time ever that all four Beanpot schools made the NCAAs in the same season.

Also, a record six teams from Hockey East.

Mittlestadt is only a junior.

Understand they do it to space things out for TV and to help the regionals that don't start until Saturday. But a 9 p.m. ET faceoff time in Worcester for Saturday's Northeast regional final is kind of lame.

The DCU is only about 20 minutes from my house, but I'll probably just stay home and surf hockey and hoops on TV.

Yeah, the beer garden was kind of lame. Ended up going across the street for a couple of beers and pizza slices before heading into the building.

But there are plenty of bars within walking distance. Something to keep in mind for the future.

Yeah we had a hotel not far from there. spent a majority of our time bar hopping. There haven't checked into Tampa that much. Doesnt look like a good "walk around" city.

This is kind of crazy -

NCAA hockey scoring leaders:

1) Kyle Connor, Michigan 35/34/69

2) JT Compher, Michigan 14/46/60

3) Zac Lynch, Robert Morris 25/30/55

4) Tyler Motte, Michigan 31/23/54

plenty of things to do around channelside where the arena is and Ybor City, which is not far and there's a trolley that goes back and forth between the two spots.

my understanding is only online via espn3.  comcast affords access, which is how I will be watching.  Hopefully you can find an outlet to catch the game.  You UMD fan or Providence?

Bulldogs. Watched the mid-80s teams as a kid, now follow them with my sports crazed 8 year old.

NIce, that predates my fandom of the dogs.  I went to college up there in the mid 90's and have been a fan ever since.  I suffered through some very lean years with them, but when they finally won the title I was there in person at the X.  I don't know if a sports moment could be more cherished than that was for me after all the terrible teams I followed.

Let's hope for some magic tomorrow.  Providence sounds like a very good squad.  Hope you find a place to watch it!

pretty open field this year, several strong teams.

Quinnipiac is legit but has shown cracks down the stretch with a lot of comeback wins and ties against lesser ECAC teams.  easiest path to the frozen four though in my opinion.  Yale and Lowell are solid defensively though so either could sneak by.

Northeast is the toughest region.  UMD is a top 5 team in the country and finally playing like it.  tough 4 seed to get for Providence.  Harvard played BC tough in the Beanpot and has a shot there but that BC team is pretty loaded.  I like UMD to "upset" out of this region.

tough draw as well for NoDak opening round because no one is hotter than Northeastern which is a quality team that didn't get a lot of puck luck early in the year.  I'm not impressed with Notre Dame.  Michigan is dangerous but one dimensional and very beatable.  if North Dakota gets past Northeastern they should get to the Frozen Four.

DU and SCSU will be a good game in the West, these teams are very close.  I give SCSU the edge but hard to argue with how DU is playing right now.

They better or my entire wardrobe for the Frozen Four will have to change.

pretty disappointing Tech or Mankato couldn't get past Ferris to win the WCHA.  both good teams and would have made the tourney field that much stronger.  Ferris is your typical big senior laden grinding team but not even the best one in their conference because Bowling Green was better.
