Hardly a good sample size, but 11 seeds have played 1 seeds in the elite 8 5 times and 3 of those times, the 11 seed won.

LSU over Kentucky in 1986

George Mason over UConn in 2006

VCU over Kansas in 2011

Tonight should be awesome.
I need to have UK, UConn, Mich and Mich State wins tonight, hey Dayton is in anything can happen.
Awesome. Who does everyone else need to win?
Says the guy who updated us about every twist and turn in his bracket.
I don't think I've given a single update on my bracket and if I did, it was ironically. I did post a lot on pre-tournament matchup strategies which is entirely different.

The game I've been looking forward to the most is tonight....Mich State vs. Virginia. I waffled back and forth on that game for hours. I really wish they had fallen to different regions because I think they are both Final 4 quality teams.

Cards/Cats predictions please? There's heavy gambling to be done!
Tough to cap because UK is such a wild card, but if I have to play something on that one it's Under 138. Lucas Oil is a tough shooting background, and I suspect the late tipoff will cause a slow start.Like the UVA ML a little. Like UVA +2.5 a lot if it gets there.

This may be stretching it a little but if UK plays as well tonight and the rest of the way as they did against WSU I think they win the whole thing.
This. It is a big if though. If they played the way they played against Wich St. UK will win by 10+, you couldn't play a much better game than that.
Most teams that play up for a big game usually have a tough time in the next game. Not saying it always happens, but I could see UK getting beat by 15 or more tonight.

Spread wise, I like UConn at +1 tonight. They will be playing in a huge home court advantage in MSG, Shabazz will shine like Kemba. Plus Georges Niang is still out. Kane carried them last game, but will he be able to do it again.

Cats at +4 looks enticing too, maybe too good to be true.

Prediction Machine likes Lou tonight. They/It liked Dayton yesterday. Went 3 for 3 on free plays last week when I remembered to check. Due to lose I supposed but I'm riding that thing. Lou big. Taking UVA/UConn also. Waiting on UVA line to get to 3, everyone on MSU. Tenn/Mich a pass but I'll probably take Mich small at last minute. To recap: I'm going 1-3 with Mich being the only winner.

Truck > can't quote your post because this board software sucks but why is he coming out? Who's looking for him? Is he even a top-20 pick?

KenPom and Sagarin each have Louisville as the superior team by a comfortable margin, but they each also see UK as being badly under-seeded. Their numbers indicate these teams should have been #1 and #4 seeds, respectively, rather than #4 and #8.

They always had the talent. That being said I cant see them putting it together consistently.
What does "putting it together consistently" even mean? Of Kentucky's 10 losses, only one came from a team that didn't win 20 games. 8 of those 10 losses were by 5 pts or less. The other two were to Florida. Half of their losses were to sweet 16 teams (Florida 3x, Baylor, Mich St). Their only loss outside of the SEC which is still undefeated in the tournament was at UNC by 5.

I only see one game (South Carolina) where they didn't win against a team they should have. If that means they haven't played consistently all year, then

DraftExpress has him #19, NBADraft.net has him at #5. (!)
The quality of NBADraft.net has dropped a lot the last couple of years. IMO DX has the best player breakdowns, but they aren't trying too hard to match players to team needs or guess what GMs will do.

Two home games for UConn.
Pretty nice. One thing is, though, the only guys showing up tonight are Boatright and Napier. Everyone else looks massively scared to handle the ball and shoot, and Hoiberg is going to figure that out right quick.

We need Daniels and Giffey not to send up threes that are terribly off. Like hitting the backboard wide off.

eta* and on cue, Raftery talks about a third option

Anyone know how much they cheated this year? Like, compared to the Calhoun years?

I hate to quote my husband but Michigan is putting on an offensive clinic right now. Michigan State game can't start soon enough.

Tennessee. We haven't cheated at basketball in a couple years.

I remember the 2000 tourney game when El-Amin's sprained ankle did us in against you guys. Too easy.

eta* Also have some friends with serious connections to CT college basketball, and it was said that the cheating wasn't just scholarships, but was really, really bad.
