Buzz Williams leaving Marquette for an ACC minnow like Va Tech says a lot about the diminished state of the Big East.

Congrats to Tennessee.

I have no idea what UMass was trying to accomplish in the first half. Pretty much every game the last half of the season has been the same way. Let the other team completely dictate the way the game goes, get into a hole and then try to dig yourself out. It worked on occasion, and sadly, I think they started to believe they could just do it whenever they wanted. But you just can't do it from down 19 against a team as good as Tennessee in the NCAAs.

Sucks, because the team that started the season 16-1 could have competed with almost any team in the tournament. I have no idea what happened from that point. It can't be simply a matter of teams adjusting to what they were doing because they proved capable of doing it in wins at GW and home against VCU. But far too often, they just didn't play the same way they did the first half of the season. Baffling.

File this under e-mails I never thought I would see:

Congratulations Bears!
Earlier this afternoon your Mercer Bears defeated the Duke Blue Devils 78-71 in the second round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament at PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC. The Bears will play Tennessee on Sunday at a time to be announced later tonight.

You can purchase tickets for Mercer's third-round game on Sunday by clicking on the following link:

If you can't be in Raleigh to cheer on the Bears there are several watch parties scheduled for Sunday:

Smart gets gang banged by 4 guys when he goes to the rack and no call, then he boxes someone out and gets called for a foul himself. WTF is this crew doing?

Gonzaga/ Ok St. was a typical trap game for most people filling out their brackets. All the Marcus Smart hype and media attention on Ok St. blinded people to the fact that Gonzaga is actually a pretty good team. I don't think I saw one bracket that picked Gonzaga even though the game was a complete toss-up numbers-wise, if not a slight advantage to Gonzaga.

Wow, that was quick.

Would have been funnier if he said it like I suggested. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense.

The motto is borne out of the most memorable lyrics of the fight song. For whatever reason it's caught on among GW folks. My facebook is currently awash in it.
See, we're not so different after all. We're both Hippos.

That was the worst half I've seen GW play all year. Happy to only be down 5.
I just always hated the 1-3-1. Good teams figure it out. That and Savage being out makes this an uphill battle.
I haven't been a fan of the 1-3-1 either. It worked against VCU and it became their go-to defense after that. There have been times it clearly has not been working, and Lonergan is too slow to adjust out of it (we started our comeback against St. Louis once GW switched to man, but it was too late to close the difference).

The dance that Mercer kid did today was just hilarious. I watched the game at a bar, setting across from a loud Duke fan. When he did that dance, the guy just slammed his glass down and walked out.
