I love football, but so far my experience here is telling me that this is the Greatest Sports Event in America. Will be interesting to see how the venue translates to bball.
considering the venue sucks for football I wouldn't hold your breath.

What's up with the team telecasts? The only time this was ever needed was for McCarver and Buck during those Red Sox/Yankee series when McCarver was clearly rooting for New York and hated the Red Sox. Buck's call in Game Five of 2004 sounded downright depressed when Ortiz got the hit to win the game.

"And we're headed back to New York," he said, with almost utter disgust.

But the bigger question: Where's Raftery and Verne?

Patric Young is going to be a nice 2nd rounder for someone. Guy can board and play defense. Almost reminds me of Ben Wallace. A little less explosive.

They're utterly sending three guys to Napier on the perimeter. Other guys are going to have to win this. Daniels and Giffey need to hit shots and be monsters on O.

From my own homer perspective, have the officials given UConn a 50/50 call yet?

I had 2.0 at least on the monitor. Joke so far.

Why just let the clock expire. You have more than a second, take a shot. Maybe some idiot fouls you.
No under the basket turnover. You've got the possession arrow for next half.

My main concerns:

Giffey has two fouls. Brimah has two. Brimah nukes Young down low. It's obvious. Nolan has two. Kromah and Olander have proven kind of under par.

We're going small and having trouble on the glass. But it's benefitting penetration and kick. So we need to keep hitting -- what? -- 57 % from three. Unlikely.

Napier hasn't sat a minute yet. But he can't. So that's concerning.

eta* Seth Davis loves my analysis. :back pat:

If the shooting goes like it did in the first half Florida is in big trouble. Seven threes attempted and six of them were totally uncontested, but they only hit 1. Meanwhile UConn has taken advantage of every open look they've gotten.

I'm surprised Florida didn't do better on the glass late in the half. They actually got all their offensive rebounds early on before UConn went small. Those UConn guys are little but they're doing a good job of getting good position and boxing out.

Florida is not a consistent shooting team and my one knock on Billy Donovan has always been that his teams occasionally shoot too many 3's, particularly in key moments.

Gators have to calm down. Young especially. He's frustrated and he wants to score every time he touches the ball but he's catching way too far from the basket. He hasn't shot from that far out all season and he's done it 4-5 times this game. Pass it out of there and try to re-establish down low.

Time to go away from Giffey from three like the Sox went away from Breslow in the WS. Just not happening right now.

eta* and there we go

Everybody thinks buck hates their team because he doesn't show emotion when something dramatic happens. I just think that's his thing. His call for that walkoff was as dramatic as any i've heard from him, it was "And he can keep running to New York!" Thought it was decent

Arguably most dramatic yankee call was leyritz in 96 turning the whole series around against wohlers, and we were "treated" to "back...at the track...at the wall...we are tied"
