Louisville was in an unique position with Pitino though as he had two previous scandals, one of which they just had the hammer dropped on them in terms of punishment from the NCAA. That was the hooker scandal in which Two-Pump claimed he had no idea what was going on with his assistant, his team and the hood rat hookers. Him using the same no idea defense a few months after being punished for the last incident was never going to fly and made it a no brainer that he was going to lose his job and lose it quickly.

I'm sure this is widespread throughout elite college basketball programs but folks like Cal might be able to keep their jobs through it.

Cal left two other basketball programs right before they came under sanctions.  He's used the 'knows nothing about it' defense twice as well.  :shrug:

160 Million dollars was going to be paid to UofL over 10 years for just wearing Adidas gear.   WTF!       Come on man.             wonder what UK's deal is with NIKE?

UMass - thats on Camby, after he was a player.

Memphis - thats on the NCAA for initially clearing Rose - and then un-clearing Rose.

edit to add:   Louisville's deal with adidas at $16 million a year is $7 million more than any other apparel deal for an ACC school.

Kentucky is in a unique position in the shoe world - NIKE is probably paying the players quite a bit under the table to go to Kentucky to get the publicity/exposure pre-NBA. Hell they have a cache that is larger than at least 10-15 NBA teams. They don't count that in the 30M. Cal is probably like Sgt. Schutlz.

 
Apologize if this is a Honda, but I wonder how quickly he will get a TV job. Will his other 'issue' prevent him from getting one.

I was thinking about the same thing today.  Disney will put anyone on ESPN regardless of distasteful conduct, so I fully expect Rick to take a year off from coaching and surface on ESPN.  Only wrenches in the plan are the fact that (as is well-chronicled here) ESPN has no money (but that's largely just a paper dilemma of course) and if, y'know, Rick gets himself indicted over this.

As I mentioned earlier - Louisville is literally the biggest draw in men's basketball, in terms of revenue.  So, they have some financial clout with the NCAA - but they are also in the midst of back-to-back scandals involving improper benefits to players - and clearly a program that is out of control.

Louisville won't shut down voluntarily - and there may be safety in numbers - but I don't think the NCAA looks at Louisville as Blue Bloods - and I doubt the NCAA would shed a tear about closing them down for a year or 2....

Honestly is there a program that isn't paying kids with money, family with jobs, under the table, grades, cars, or fake diplomas?  Boosters, Bag Men,  Flunky assistants ... ugh         Yeah I think the NCAA would like for the FBI to go away before they see how far the corruption is spread.

I'm 55 years old. Louisville was a top program when I started watching college hoops in the mid-70s. They may have had some dips, but  - for example - UCLA & Kentucky had much bigger down times than Louisville has had in my lifetime.

:shrug:   I never said they had never won a title.  But, when you finish the regular season in the top-8 only 5 times in the last 36 years - that is not an "elite" program.  Thats a program that made the most of their talent 3 times, and were wildly inconsistent otherwise...

WTF?  So UK having the top recruiting class every year, and when they can only lose to the second string what the #### does that say about them?   They didn't reach their potential?  Who the #### cares who finishes in the top 10 at the end of the year?   I think most fans don't even know what their teams ranking is at the end of the season unless they won it all.      Finish the regular season in the top 8? wtf?!?!   You think that sells to recruits?  Hey we finished in the top 8 quit a bit.     Come on man.

I actually have VERY fond memories of WV. One of my greatest coups in out punting my coverage. 

Early Wild West days of internet dating (we are talking Yahoo chat rooms - and there were some, well, interesting ones). Taking to this chick and after a couple weeks comes out she is, well.. large.

But mentioned her cousin... who I then started to chat with... I was maybe 28 or so, and this chick was a freakin smoking hot 19 year old Latina/mixed chick.
