Need a stopgap TE this week? Consider Beckum NYG (1 Viewer)

Yes, good ol' Travis B. He's back from his injuries and s/b seeing the field as a receiver a lot this week, and he's very likely on your WW right now.

With Manningham out and Hixon on IR, Steve Smith long gone (not to mention TE K Boss), the NYG receivers are down to Nicks (still not 100%), Victor Cruz, and recent FA adds Stokley and Michael Clayton.

Beckum is undersized for a TE and sucks as a blocker, so he's not a legit all-purpose TE by NFL standards, but his ability to catch the ball is his primary skill and s/b utilized this week while TE Ballard stays in to block.

No promises, but I could see 4-5 catches coming Beckum's way. If you're in TE hell due to injuries right now, he's worth a look.

I agree 100%. I need a TE and my 14 team dynasty league and I'm going with Beckum. The Eagles can't cover a TE for their lives and they haven't been able to do so against the Giants for years. With no other options besides Hicks in the passing game, I really think he could have a sneaky good game.

Gotta be something psychological with the Hicks vs Nicks thing. Happens way too often.

Normally I'd say "yes" to any TE vs. Philly - but....

I fully expect the Giants to run a ton against a very weak run defense.

Beckum's going to block. He simply isn't going out to pass much. He may not even start with Ballard as a glorified extra OT.

NYG would be wise to use Jacobs and Bradshaw all night long.

As for a sleeper TE - consider either Tony Scheffler (2 TDs and Pettigrew not 100% healthy) or SD TE2 (McMichael) with Gates out.

Beckum doesn't really do this very well. If they wanted blocking, he wouldn't be out there. If he's on the field, I believe he'll be used in the passing game.

Even with the injuries, it's hard to see Beckum getting enough to make him a worthwhile fantasy TE when he hasn't had a single Target yet this year.

He hasn't dressed yet this year because he was hurt. If he did have a catch, now that would have been impressive.

If you want a reliable stopgap, try Kevin Boss. He's finally healthy, and Jason Campbell loves to use his TE's. Even a plodder like Brandon Myers has gotten stats this year. If it was Boss in there, you can bet he'd have got double the targets.

pssst. ****REAL TE STOPGAP****

KEVIN BOSS

go get him.

Right. The outside WRs will be blanketed by the Pro Bowl Philly corners and Stokley doesn't know the offense. Ballard will be the blocking TE. Beckum will essentially be used as a slot receiver and I think will be a busy guy.

With Gates hurting, my choices were:

Jeff King, Ari

Evan Moore, Cle

Tony Scheffler, Det

Ed Dickson, Bal

Ben Watson, Cle

Heath Miller, Pit

And I chose Randy McMichael because

a) Malcolm Floyd is prolly out

b) KC sucks

c) Rivers loves Tight Ends (who doesn't?!?!?!)

d) There's prolly not a 2nd TE who splits time

Although McM isn't prominent on anybody's list, I think he has the best opportunity.

I believe the catches you think are going McMichael's way will instead belong to Tolbert and Crayton. He did little last year filling in for Gates. I expect about 2 catches for 20 yards. I think Beckum has double the upside.OK, 'nuff Beckum talk out of me. He either does it or doesn't, and I had to plug him in one league today so I'm hopeful.

Correct - I wasn't clear. If they want a blocking TE, it's Ballard.I agree with Scheffler, McMike or Boss

I'll throw a long shot into the ring.

Kellen Davis (top 10, probably top 5, in the athletically gifted department for NFL TEs). I know, Chicago TEs are supposed to be worthless, but today that won't be the case.

[*]In 3 games last year against Green Bay, Olsen caught 13 passes on 17 targets for 113 yards and a TD.

[*]In 2 games this year, opposing TEs have 8 catches on 17 targets for 146 yards and a TD against Green Bay

Bold prediction for Kellen Davis today - 6 targets, 4 catches, 38 yards and a touchdown.

He's likely on the WW because he drops so many passes even when he's healthy.

Dickson and Evan Moore may be on the WW too and I like them better.
