If he has gotten into your phone, your emails, accounts, etc may have been comprimised as well.  DO NOT use the same password for every account.  Make sure to go to your email accounts, bank accounts, etc and change the passwords, make sure the recovery emails are CORRECT (not changed to some other email), and enable 2 step verification whenever possible (ie. you will need to enter a code texted to your phone to log in).  Don't forget to check your secret questions.  Change them too.

Did he have access to your phone physically? If not, sounds like he phished you and got you to click on some Malware - never click a link you're not familiar with or from an unknown source.

Theyll typically send something that looks identical, but from a shady address. I.E. applestore.mac@gmail.com

This. The "radio silence" does not mean that his phone is still not filled with malware that can track his motions, steal his passwords, have access to contacts, emails, activate his camera...etc.     I'd wipe that phone clean and re-install everything. Until then--I'd even slap a piece of tape over the eye of the camera.

You should do this from a different computer/phone in case he has a key logger going.

I have a buddy going through this because of a business deal gone bad. People showing up at his house and playing every conversation he's ever had with a girl to his wife. FBI is involved.

It's wild because we can never have an open conversation about it. Since he lives 200 miles away, the only time we can ever really talk about it is the 3-4 times a year we're together in person. Makes me careful about what I say to him on the phone, though.
