Need some input- first year with return yards. (1 Viewer)

My league at work is changing a little bit to include return yards (25yds=1 Point) 6 points TD. I am very curious as to how much value this would add to Ted Gin and Devin Hester and maybe Jones-Drew. Since this is PPR league with a RB/WR flex option. Any of you guys have an opinion? On Draft Pos. or value.

Thanks fellas.

Take a look at last year's stats as a starting point, divide yardage by 25, add TDs, and slot them in to the final standings. At 1/25, Hester had an extra 99.4 points last year.

At 1/25 only a select few players have significant increased value. Cribbs, Hester, Bush, and maybe Jon Stewart. Others play on defense and may not be available like Mcgee, Carr, Rossum, etc. If it just being added this year why not beef it up to 1/16 or so? I've also seen leagues where an edge is given to PR yards versus KR yards. Food for thought.

dont forget Eddie Royal WR Broncos. Hes supposed to be the punt and kickoff return guy there. I think he could be a valuable player this year in leagues that score for return yards

I play in a league with return yardage (15yds=1 point), and the top guys, mostly kickoff returners, do make a difference. The problem though is their contributions are very unstable week to week, even for a guy like Devin Hester. It does make players like Jerious Norwood more rosterable though, those back-ups and part-time players who also return kicks and punts. Speaking of Norwood, I thoughT I even read somewhere that he would be more involved in the return game this season.

I play in a PPR/IDP league that scores return yards/points also

My experience is that they make some players ok as your 3WR for example - Wes Welker at Miami became a pretty good WR#3 with his return yards (didn't need those at NE, obviously). Obviously Hester was a good player to have with his return points, but I am targeting him a little higher this year based on Chicago's expressed interest in making him more of an offensive player. A few db's became a litlte more equal than others because of the scoring.

As a general rule, it is more marginal players becoming usable backups or WR3 in a flex because of the points. Unless your scoring becomes truly weird, return players typically are not your star starters, and adding return points will not move marginal players to star category. Usable, yes

I agree with what has been said to this point, but the real comparison that you need to make is the point "rate" for return yards vs. the "rate" for rushing and reception yards. If rushing and receiving yards are 10 yds = 1 point, then you will be looking to add contributers on offense that will see time also as a returner (kick returner primarily as PR gets fewer yds). Welker, Hester, Cribbs and Ginn all fit that bill, and there is talk that Breaston may be #3WR. Stewart, Jones-Drew, Norwood and possibly Washington are RBs that might be considered. If rushing and receiving yards are also 25 yds = 1 point, then all of the returners are in play: Figurs, Davis, Holt, Royal, Hall, Burleson?, Sproles, Cartwright. This is one area that you will always be able to mine value on the WW as there tends to be turnover at KR/PR. Unless you get the top guys it will require constant monitoring of return games to stay on top of things.
