Nelson=Collie? (1 Viewer)

I just made a trade I gave up Marshall and Eli for Strafford and Nelson. I felt like Nelson was an important piece of the trade.

I then started thinking could Nelson be Collie production wise? A great WR3 and a good WR2. In Indy you have Wayne=Jennings,Driver=Garcon,Clark=Finley. Wayne and Jennings are #1s on each team. it seems like the sneaky WR was always Collie, usually put up good #'s, but could be a beast at times. Im starting to think maybe Nelson is that "collie". He is on a high aggessive offense just like the colts. fast, great hands. Im thinking Nelson could put up numbers like Collie....just my thoughts. what do you think?

I'm not quite following along. Driver had a ton of production from the slot in 2010 - though nothing like Collie, who was arguably the best slot WR in the NFL last year. Garcon was strictly outside. When he got hurt, Collie slid out there and Blair White played the slot. Collie had insane target/reception numbers.Anyway, I think Nelson will be an effective WR again this year, but not sure I see him blowing up. Driver ain't dead yet. Jordy is clearly ahead of JJ at this point, but that doesn't mean Jones won't see any snaps. Cobb is an impressive rookie. Lotta mouths to feed over there.

Sorry if that wasn't the answer you were looking for.

Great article over the summer at ProFootballFocus on Slot Receivers.

check it out

Nelson and Collie are very different receivers. Nelson is a big, jump ball, sideline, and endzone guy. Collie is an underneath Wes Welker, Percy Harvin, classic slot receiver.

I think Nelson can be a top-30 WR for sure. I do worry about Finley taking a lot of his targets, and I'd be reluctant to start him at anything more than WR3 until I see more.

Well, in support of the original questions, both are white guys. I love how the naysayers just gloss over that.

I think Nelson can be a guy that puts up big numbers in spite of it not appearing to be a great situation if that is what you mean. His numbers week one were good, but watching the game he was very close to putting up huge numbers. He was stopped on a reception inside the 1 yard and Rodgers missed him on a fly where he had 2-3 steps which could have been a 50+ yard TD pass. So the guy had good opportunity to put up 130+ and 3 in that game. I like the number of targets and the quality of targets so far, if those can be maintained he has top 25 potential to be sure.

Now imagine he was black....
The Clifford quote RE: Hillis. I get it and the point applies. I own Nelson in many leagues. The difference between Collie and Jordy is that Jordy will line up wide and get a couple of shots down-field, but fewer targets than Collie 2010. I think he will land between WR15 and WR 25 this year if Driver stays healthy. The health of Driver and Finley will factor into Jordy's total 2011 targets.

I think everyone's missing the point here. You traded Brandon Marshall and Eli for Stafford & Nelson. I think you got ripped off.

I know, I know, I'm the guy that's been saying Stafford could easily be QB1 or 2 overall this year, but qb is deep, Eli traditionally puts up QB1 (albeit borderline) numbers and never misses games (at least compared to Stafford).

Nelson is a definite downgrade at WR from Brandon Marshall.

I think this was a bad move for you. Nelson was probably just a throw in guy for him to get Brandon Marshall - one of the most targeted wide receivers in the league.

Nelson is a definite downgrade at WR from Brandon Marshall.
Disagree. Marshall will probably have more catches and more yards, but Jordy will have more TDs. I bet it actually ends up reasonably close. And Stafford is an upgrade from Eli. Not a bad trade at all, IMHO. I'd do it.

Ok...I dont feel like I got ripped off.

My roster at the time:

QB:maning,manning

RBs:mcfadden,starks,dwill,lynch

WRs:fit,marshall,hernande.a,msw,collie,massiquai

Now:

OB:Stafford,P.Manning

RBs;same

WR:fitz,hernande,nelson,msw,collie,massiaqua

What I was trying to say was that the pack and Indy throw a lot. Wayne and Jennings are #1's, but watch Collie and I hope Nelson get a ton of points too
