Never Quit (1 Viewer)

I just want to encourage everyone to never give up. I'm in a 14 man league and started the season 0-5. I finished the year at 6-7 and pulled a 7 spot for the playoffs. I was distraught and wanting to throw the towel in...but I kept fighting and trading for what I thought would be a good gamble....All those moves paid off. I am in the play-offs. Before I get accused of being in a weak league...which honestly I don't care what most think....I play in a league that has been around for 20 years...I'm old...yes...but that means I've seen a lot and played a lot. I am favored to win my playoff game.

My point here is, young kids, don't give up...please....I see a lot of kids quit if things aren't going their way. Just hang in there and fight!

I started 0-3 this season and then rattled off 6 in a row, won 2 of 3 and made it to the playoffs despite owning jhill and lacy!

Nice success story...I got one for you...I am in a 14 team league, ended up 7-6 tied with a guy in my division...I beat him both times we played.. I am listed ahead of him, our division record....He scored 50 total starter points more than me.. He is in and I am out based on our stupid tie -breaker rules.

I think thats a good rule- rewards the team who had a better team over the whole 13 weeks.

In probably my favorite dynasty league (because everyone knows each other, lots of good banter) one owner whom is a good friend of mine started off 0-5 .. He had a pretty good team but was catching a bunch of bad breaks. He has finished at the bottom of the league for a few years now and was talking about quitting after this year. I worked really hard to talk him off the ledge and helped him with some trade negotiations and waivers over the next few months..

He ended up making playoffs, finishing with a 7-6 record as the hottest team in the league (by far).

His opponent? My injury riddled squad that started 6-0

I quit..................

Never talk a quitter out of quitting. Just rip the bandaid off, they'll always quit eventually. Quitters are consistent that way.

I started the season 5-4 and stumbled to a 5-8 finish only to hang on to that last sweet spot. Championship!

The biggest reason I like having him around is because he provides my priceless intel. He bounces all of his trade talks off me and in general is very loose with any discussions he has. It is great to know that an owner is trying to sell a piece and for how much. I have a few of them like this and allows me to pull a lot of strings.

In addition to being a good friend and my desire to keep the founding group together (we're down to 10/16)

Great message, Jchapman70. I am with you about not giving up. Congrats on finishing strong. I also don't care about the "weak league" accusations. What matters is where you finish in the league that you join...and that is nobody's business but yours.

I lost J. Charles, Romo, Foster, Lewis, Gronk for who knows how long, K. Allen, Forsett, Dez for 1/2 season, and the negative impact on A. Brown when Big Ben went down through four of my teams...and I made the playoffs in three with two byes. Never give up, indeed!

Good luck the rest of the way!

How exactly is winning 6 of your last 8 limping into the playoffs? It's a good story. I've never seen anyone start that badly in one of my leagues and make the playoffs. And I agree with the lesson that if you start out poorly you should take chances with some deals, selling off any big names you have for multiple players who are showing promise. Sell out to win each week. Don't let a guy sit on your bench with a bye. Treat every week like a must win. That was what I did this year after starting off 2-4, and I finished 8-5.

Our family motto is "We don't give up."

Not giving up and a little bit of manners will set a kid far ahead of the curve.

I once started 0-5 or 1-6 or something like that, was on the verge of being out of the playoffs, I was down big on a stormy, muddy Halloween night 1994, Monday night game, Green bay vs. Chicago some call it the Mud Bowl, all I had was Edgar Bennett Green Bay running back, and had to play the top fantasy team, the owner I'll call him Fred, well Fred had never won anything for years at fantasy football, his bad luck was legendary, but that year Fred was undefeated and having his best season ever. All he only needed was another win to lock up a playoff spot. Edgar Bennett needed 2 tds and 100 yards plus a little more to win, it seemed hopeless in that Halloween storm vs chicago. Little did I know Edgar was a mudder and got my 2 tds and 100 yards that night, I won most of the games from there out and won the championship. Fred was devastated, he lost his remaining games didn't make the playoffs and quit playing fantasy football from then on, never played again.

How? I'm reading that he helped his friend negotiate with the teams to make moves.

7? 7 teams make the playoffs? What is this the National Hockey League?

How? I'm reading that he helped his friend negotiate with the teams to make moves.
Exactly.. I'm a lot better than him at canvasing the league for potential trade partners that he probably wouldn't see. I'd suggest that he may want to offer player x to John for player y.

Started 2-5 and ended 7-6 winning division and getting 1st round bye.

Drafted Demarco with 1st round pick and Had CJ Anderson as my keeper

Traded Demarco for Gore and dropped CJ

whether or not you profit in any secret agreement doesnt take away from the fact that you are acting as a co owner of another team. That is a form of collusion. Im not saying you did this to decieve anyone, but did the rest of the league know you were helping him. Do you think they would have cared. Because I can imagine a few of them would have been upset if they knew your friend would have gone for deal x, but with your "advisement" agreed to deal y. Again, not saying you did this, but you could have also potentially gotten him to make deals that would have benefited you.

Like I said, collusion. Do I think you did it with any ill intent, no.

Well I guess I colluded then.. I'm in several leagues where owners bounce ideas off of one another, doesn't seem to me to be something that should be frowned upon. In this league in particular pretty much everyone knows each other. Some member know I spend a lot more time on FF than them and will bounce a trade offer off me, I try to be as unbiased as possible.

I lost 3 of my last 4, including a big L this week, but if not for McFaddens fumbles last night, I would be missing the playoffs. I squeaked in by 1 point in the tiebreaker. Going for the three peat now with a horrible backfield.

I think I had this happen one year, I was down... practically out, maybe, oh, 1-5. An owner pitched a ludicrous trade offer. It was good enough to win that week, maybe, admittedly it was fair - for that week because of matchups - but it was pretty much giving up the ship. A real shark. He told me I was done, finished, kaput, this was my last chance, gun to my head, etc., if I didn't win that week so I had to take that offer. I hadn't really thought about it but at that moment it got my nerve up, my sense of pride, I let him have it, email reply broadside. I said I wouldn't go down, no damn way, and he could take his WW scrubs for premium players offer and shove it where the sun never shows. I might have cut 3/4s of my team without adding new players that night. Slash and burn, to the core, maybe had 3 players left. I added back slowly, I rebuilt, I survived to the next week, it was a pretty sloppy year in the league so I slipped into the playoffs at 5-8, and I won the championship at 8-8. :football:

Congrats to OP.

In my first year playing FF, I had no idea what I was doing, and not only that I hadn't watched an NFL game in years.

Simply put, I was out of football altogether.

One auto draft later, I found myself in a fairly competitive league with guys I had known for years.

Started off 0-4, and I was like "I don't know if I even like this".

Vowed that night to turn it around, started looking over the players on the wire, and abruptly found myself "streaming defenses" before I had ever heard anyone utter the term.

Reeled off 10 straight wins, and went from the laugh of the league, to "err, thats no F'N joke bro" was one guys comments.

Streamed defenses, cut Brees early that year since he was just awful early season, and was even streaming QBs there for awhile.

I lost in the first round of the playoffs, but it is what it is, and now I am hooked.

Had horrendous luck in the first round of the playoffs for 4 straight years.

Last year it all came together with 2 wins in 3 leagues, and a cash 3rd in the other.

One league I needed to win the last 3 weeks of the regular season, and have some help to boot.

I was highest overall points the whole season, but every team seemed to blowup when they played me, or I put up a ton and won a close one. Won the last 3, backdoored into the playoffs and won the championship.

This year, headed to the playoffs in 4 of 4.

I don't like the looks of two teams, but I gave myself a chance, thats all any of us can do.

Even when you are out of the playoffs in a hopeless scenario, do your best to play spoiler and rejoice in the fact you can knock some jackass out of the playoffs that may have gotten a lucky win over you earlier in the season.

That karma seems to come back down the road eventually.

Never, ever give up. NEVER QUIT.

Distraught? Really? Over fantasy football?
Some people take a hobby seriously, some people bet alot of money, some people just hate to lose.
Exactly. I have $100 AMERICAN on the line in one of my big money leagues. That's a 1 followed by no less than two zeroes, people.

If I don't get in the playoffs I'll be pissed.
I do not care about the money, sure it is nice. But I want to walk into my draft next year as champ.

If I do not make the playoffs, I would be distraught.

As I was reading this, my ex-girl friend drove into the drive-way with a truck that I once totaled and my favorite dog that I thought had died in 2012... She had a 12 pack of my favorite suds...

Never quit, never surrender.

I believe that is what happens if you play a country song in reverse.

3 years ago, a guy in our league started out 0-5.

He ended the season 0-13.

Then he quit the league.

It was probably the right decision.

Hey OP, I had a rough start to the season too. The first week of the season went by fast, but to me it seemed like nine weeks and five days. The first day seemed like a week and the second day seemed like five days. And the third day seemed like a week again and the fourth day seemed like eight days. And the fifth day you went to see your mother and that seemed just like a day, and then you came back and later on the sixth day, in the evening, when we saw each other, that started seeming like two days, so in the evening it seemed like two days spilling over into the next day and that started seeming like four days, so at the end of the sixth day on into the seventh day, it seemed like a total of five days. And the sixth day seemed like a week and a half. I have it written down, but I can show it to you tomorrow if you want to see it.

This is my year to "never quit". Deep IDP keeper league, 12 teams, top 6 make the playoffs. Started out 1-5. Made 3 different trades going for keepers for next year (thus trading away studs I can't keep, going off contract). So I kinda gave up but I got guys that could still help me this year. I've now gone 6-1 since then and sit at 7-6 in a three way tie for the division and via tiebreakers (better H2H record) I lead the division. Was in 8th place last week and out of it, now I have the division and in 3rd.

BUT this is a week 17 championship league (yea they still exist, ugggg) and so it's all up to this week, playoffs start week 15. If I win again I take the division and make the playoffs. If I lose I will most likely be out of the playoffs down to 7th or 8th. I got a chance at least. :)

Probably 20 years ago. One game behind my brother in law and we played that weekend. Not only did I have to beat him, I had to make up a 100 pt tiebreaker differential in a league where 70-80 was a good weekly score. Fortunately this league gave double points for non-typical TDs (QB rush, RB rec, WR rush) on top of distance bonuses. I had Kordell Stewart. I also had fancy Thigpen and Rod Smith. Smith got me 30 pts. Thigpen 39. Stewart dropped a 60 spot. I mustered up 30 points elsewhere and won 15x to 5x booting my bro-in-law from the playoffs.

I was so epic that I don't even remember if I won the league championship that year (probably not based on the game logs).

1st Broncos Rod Smith 37 yard pass from John Elway (Jason Elam kick) 7 0 Steelers Yancey Thigpen 33 yard pass from Kordell Stewart (Norm Johnson kick) 7 7 Broncos Terrell Davis 3 yard rush (Jason Elam kick) 14 7 2nd Broncos Rod Smith 25 yard pass from John Elway (Jason Elam kick) 21 7 Steelers Yancey Thigpen 69 yard pass from Kordell Stewart (Norm Johnson kick) 21 14 Steelers Yancey Thigpen 21 yard pass from Kordell Stewart (Norm Johnson kick) 21 21 3rd Broncos Jason Elam 35 yard field goal 24 21 Steelers Kordell Stewart 4 yard rush (Norm Johnson kick) 24 28 4th Steelers Kordell Stewart 9 yard rush (Norm Johnson kick)
