New England at Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

He had it in his hands, and pulled it into his body.  His knee was down.  Then he extended it while turning towards the end zone.

Everything I said was true.  Watch the play.
He has to control it all the way to the ground. The knee didn't matter unless he had been touched by a defender. If that did happen, he would have been short of the goal line.

Steelers got Dezed, now they know how it feels.
I don't think they were dazed.  I like the fake spike play.  Much better option, given great field position, than going to OT.  Bad luck on a tipped ball.

ETA: misread that.  OK -  Dez.  The "football move" is pretty subjective.  Agree that it is a tough way to lose.

Half of the Patriots' dynasty is built on cheating and on other team's stupidity rather than their own skill.

Tuck Rule, Seahawks passing, Falcons choking.  This just adds to it.

I'm a pats fan and I have no idea how that wasn't a TD.

That said, Ben screwed up. Like Romo said, you throw the fade there. You don't pull a R. Wilson and throw an inside slant into three defensive players. That lost the game. Period.
Doesn't matter what team you root for, you're still wrong.

Congratulations to Tom Brady on winning his record setting 219th game, breaking the previous record of 218 wins held by Tom Brady

That's true unless he made a football move.  And to most people, I'd think holding the ball, spinning, and extending it towards the goal line constitutes that.

And yes, having 2 feet (or one knee) on the ground with control and completing a football move IS a catch.

wow, NFL should let Burfict get a free shot on JuJu. Dude deserves to get injured, and i don't think that should be said about anybody. but a TD celebration mocking your cheap shot should be free pass for retaliation

More good news for Steelers fans:

Antonio Brown - WR - Steelers

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Antonio Brown has a "partially torn calf muscle."

maybe he should spend less time mocking injured players. he should get KARMA tattooed on his forehead

He won’t.  He’s a tool.
I'm just trying to bring some positivity to a thread that seems to badly need it.

I understand that tonight wasn't great for your team and you're still I'm mourning and I'm sorry about that but they had a huge part in Tom Brady clinching another mvp so when you wake up tomorrow at least it should being a smile to your face that your team was finally relevant as a rival.

Whatever dude - I don’t care.  I know you’re respected around here.  Congrats on the win.

Srsly?

That was a crazy ending.  Probably wouldn't have been in that spot had Tomlin let Ben throw it on their two previous possessions, because you know...sitting on the ball always ends well against the Pats.  I thought the call was right but that rule is just dumb, that has to be a touchdown like so many others that have been taken away over the last couple of years.  Fix that ####.

He caught it with his back to the end zone, pulled it in closer to his body and controlled it enough WITH HIS KNEE DOWN to rotate his entire body around and extend the ball towards the end zone.  THat's possession with a knee down and a football move.

This is going to end up in a rule change
As a Lion's fan, I say "Welcome to our World"!

Pretty sure Ben can call whatever he wants or at least audible

outside of Pittsburgh fans, who will feel bad if Burfict cracks JuJu when they play?
I’m not condoning what JuJu did but I bet there are a lot of people outside of Pittsburgh who loved it.  Burfict is probably the dirtiest, most hated player in football.

maybe he is, but first showboating your hit, and mocking it a week later certainly is classless at the least. i guess Tomlin doesn't care if Bengals headhunt next game, should lead the team a little better and not let those kinds of things occur

Tomlin probably had no idea that they had planned that type of TD celebration.  Do you really think a head coach has the time to worry about TD celebrations before the team’s biggest game of the year?

i agree with that, but with the other top teams in the league do you think something like that would occur, particularly from a rookie? No way Gronk would do that after his cheap shot a few weeks ago, and i can't think of anyone else who would do that. it is what it is, and will probably be forgotten, but Pittsburgh fans can't get mad if the next time they play Cincy and Cincy plays a little reckless and lays some big hits

Of course it could happen with any team. Do you think that the other top teams have no young, immature players?  I honestly doubt Belichick even discusses TD celebrations.

with the current rule, his knee being down is irrelevant
It's irrelevant from the standpoint of him being down.

It's 100% relevant that he controlled the ball and rotated his entire body around to extend the football towards the goal line with his knee down, because his established him in bounds.

It's just like a receiver who catches it and has it punched out before he takes 2 steps to establish himself and make a football move.  His knee being down should've been just like 2 steps.

Exciting game between two pretty evenly matched teams. Came down to 1-2 plays. First time in years I won't dread it if the Steelers have to play the Pats again

Was in the car, so I didn't see it live.

Got home and saw the replay, and by rule, its not a TD. He was "going to the ground" during the process of the catch and he bobbled the ball when it hit the ground. The rule blows (its pretty clear that he "caught the ball" and only lost it because he reached for the end zone) but it was correctly applied.

The part that is even more bizarre is how another team possibly threw a goal line INT against the Pats when they could have easily taken it to OT. Just mind boggling

i just think it is particularly selfish here. Why poke a guy like Burfict who already plays hard? what if Burfict can't  get a shot on Juju next game so he takes out Bell or something because Pittsburgh keeps antagonizing?

There is no more two steps in the context of falling to the ground.

Catch the ball. Take two steps while falling to the ground. Ball moves when you hit the ground.

The rule as written says it is not a catch.  Even if you controlled the ball during the two steps.

Horsedung....but that is how it is written.

Reaching for the end zone has been huge this year as we've seen numerous plays at the pylon.  Can't blame the player for his instincts but you have to secure the catch.

Can't criticize trying to win the game rather than "settle" for OT.
