New Job Offer! (1 Viewer)

Been with my current employer since I was 17 (31 years for those counting).  Moved up steadily until my current director role about 8 years ago.  I used to love the place, the leadership, culture, etc.  Really felt part of a family.  However, corporate oversite and leadership changes the last 3 years have changed everything.  I've tried to wait it out but I'm no longer excited to go to work, in fact I don't like the people I work for anymore.

A headhunter called last week and I listened.  Yesterday I went on my first interview in 20 years and met with the VP, another director, and the four folks who would report to me.  HR called me at 9am this morning and offered me the job!  They came in $5k under my "pie in the sky" salary request, I asked for the $5k additional, and 30 minutes later I have an offer letter with the extra scrilla.  So I am almost definitely going to be parting ways with my used-to-be-beloved employer.  I'm nervous and excited at the same time.  After I review the benefit info and weigh everything one last time I'll most likely accept tomorrow.

Total comp change should be about an additional 20%.  I'm looking forward to getting re-energized and loving work again.  The downside is I'll have less time to post here (or maybe that's a net positive for the board).  Anyway, slap it high.   :hifive:

Congrats.

Is this the place in California?
No.  The place in Cali decided to interview local candidates.  I do think though that while the salary is several tens of thousands less than the Cali job, the overall net purchasing power of the money should be higher.

great news!

will they have good butt doctors where you're going? and good insurance to pay for the butt doctors? asking for a friend.

:hifive:

But don't sell yourself short and give up on the posting durign work hours. That way lies sloth and damnation

Appreciate all the well wishes.  When I spoke to the recruiter after the interview, she said, "now if they like you they'll probably contact you next week for a second interview.  And don't be offended if they don''t come in at the high end of what you want, don't forget the bonus opportunity."  So the fact that HR contacted me early the next day tells me that either they really loved me or they're really desperate.

And for your question @El Floppo access to good butt doctors is always high on my priority list.

Congrats. Is there any contact period? Without knowing anything about your current and new company...what happens if for some reason you are out of a job in 12 months?

Congrats.

I just applied for hopefully my last job ever.

I found out today I'm in the running so : popcorn:

@bigbottom is an email offer binding at all?  I haven't done this forever and I'm trying to assess when I can tell my current boss that I'm out.
Email offer is fine if there is an attachment of the formal letter.  Are you looking to have time off between finishing with the old and starting with the new one?

congrats by the way

Exactly. What better time to squeeze in a yearlong sabbatical before starting the new job? At least offer it up during negotiations.

Congrats! And glad to hear it sounds like you are staying in Bmore. Don't want to lose any of our good folk.

Way to rub it in for the rest of us that hate our jobs,  And congrats.
Not the intention obviously, just needed to get it off my chest.  I really really used to love my job and the culture has just gone to ####.  The thing that saddens me most is that I have 3 high performing, excellent employees who I hired and have worked with for 10+ years that I'l be leaving.  These folks make my life so much better that since they're not part of the normal bonus program at my current employer, I always split my annual bonus 4 ways since they helped me earn it as much as I did.  I'll miss them but I have to listen to my gut.

Thanks for the nice words.  Moving closer to @Doctor Detroit in the Annapolis area but still solidly Maryland.  Not moving since I love my yard and pool and I've grown to find my 1,600 sq ft rancher quaint anymore.

I imagine they'd give me a couple of weeks severance and then I'd be ####ed.  No contract, at will employee.

Congrats!  Don't burn any bridges just in case.  The grass doesn't always turn out to be greener.  Trust me - I've done the boomerang thing before.

It sounds like the formal offer letter was attached to the email?  Was there a place for you to sign and send back?  If so, and you've signed, I think you're good to tell the current employer. But if you're still negotiating at all, then hold off until everything is formalized.

Quick question: Are you 100% confident that you are not covered by a non-compete or non-solicit agreement with your current employer that could possibly hamstring you at the new place?  Something you may have signed a while back?

I got the formal letter Thursday, returned it, and resigned that same day.  No non-compete issues (I'm not in sales or anything like that).  Last day is 1/6/17 and I start the new gig 1/9/17.  I'd have loved to have taken a week or so off in between but I don't accrue pto at my current job so any time off would be unpaid.  Plus I'm jacked to get started so may as well jump in.  I feel really pumped and energized like I haven't in a few years, can't wait to start the new job.

I thought my boss was going to be upset and surprised when I told him but after I described it, he told me that he thought it was a great idea for me.  I've had talks with him a few times about how I'd been feeling so he knew where I was at.   Lastly he said between us, he wish'ed he could work for the place I'm going to.  Way more progressive and unencumbered by stupid corporate #######s whose only job seems to be to make things more difficult and expensive for us.  Now the hard part begins where I have to tell all the people I'm really fond of that I'm leaving.

New gig starts tomorrow.  Had my goodbye party on Friday, during the roasting, a nice looking middle aged gal stood up and said that during my monthly presentations, her and her gal co-workers would say that Don Draper was giving the presentation since I look like John Hamm.

So yea, I've got that going for me.

The wife seemed neither completely pleased nor completely disappointed.  After bringing it up for the 10th time over the weekend she said she wished John Hamm would ####.

Edit:  Hmm acronyms don't fly around these parts anymore.
