New kickoff rules effect on scoring? (1 Viewer)

It's fairly obvious the increased number of touchbacks will not only going to mean less kickoff returns but offenses will struggle to score points dealing with so many 80 yard drives. Goal line backs such Tolbert etc will get fewer opportunities.

Players who often excelled with redzone targets should have their value decreased. It will be interesting to see how many fewer TDs will be scored this year. Any thoughts?

I wonder if this also increases the relative value of elite D's, especially in leagues like mine that have heavy rewards for shutouts and low scores.

I would agree that certain teams will score less who rely on a good return game for good field position. The Bears, for example, have a lot of big kickoff returns (and punt) which give them short drives and easy scores.

As far as goal line backs and red zone targets though, I think the new rule of reviewing every score will actually increase their opportunities. I think we're going to see a lot of balls placed back at the 1/2 yard line which used to be big play scores.

Happened in one of the games last weekend. There was a long pass that the receiver caught right at the goal line and it was initially ruled a score. In past seasons most coaches were not throwing the challenge flag on this unless it was late in a close game. But the automatic review reversed the call, placed the ball on the 1/2 and then someone rumbled in on the next play. I think we're going to see more of this with the new review, leading to an increased value of goal line backs.
