The trailor doesn't blow me away but I am impressed with the cast.

I thought this was some low budget flick that would only have Costner with a bunch of no-name actors but seeing Jennifer Garner and Ellen Burnstyn and one of my favorite actors, Sam Elliot? Wow!

I'm definitely gonna go see it in the theatre when it comes out.

Only thing that looks bad about it is the Browns. I'll be seeing it for sure.
You know someone with draft experience had some input into the storyline for authenticity sake. While it is fictional and exaggerated it will be a cool look into what a draft could be like from an owners and GMs sense.

One of the best baseball movies ever made is Major League which highlighted the Cleveland Indians.

Not long after that movie was made the Tribe actually did get good and started making the playoffs and even went to a couple of World Series.

The Browns have been featured in another major movie picture back in the early 1960s in a movie called 'The Fortune Cookie' starring Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathaw.

So Cleveland has been featured in some very-successful sports films in the past and Major League even had a sequel so it was a cash cow.

Add Cleveland has an active film industry. Parts of Spider Man were filmed there and a fantastic Indy mob flick based off the real mafia war that took place in the 1970s called 'Get the Irishman' tht starred Christopher Walken was filmed in Cleveland. Great flick. Check it out if you get the opportunity.

This film has star power, in addition to the actors mentioned above I completely forgot to mention Kevin Leery who I really like as well. The early screenings have been positive. Could be a decent movie.

Man. Buffalo was close to getting that movie. Why would they want Cleveland?
From Wiki...

When the idea for the movie was first made public, the movie was to be centered around the Bills instead of the Browns but the studio changed it to the Browns because of cheaper production costs in Ohio

They should have just made a Major League style football movie. There is soooooooooooooo much material here for a great comedy.

agreed. usually serious sports movies seriously suck

actually, now that i think of it that might even be a bad movie. most sports movies tend to suck. there are a few obvious exceptions

And therein lies the answer to EVERY SINGLE movie making decision these days.

Sure.

That is why so many films are made up in Canada.

Ohio provides an incentive for films to be made there.

Its well known that is why films have started to be made there recently.

Studios have lined themselves up to make movies there due to this:

My guess is this is not well known, even around here where everyone knows everything.

As massive of a football nut as I am, I just can't imagine this movie being anything but cheesy and awful.

Hope I'm wrong.

As a huge Cleveland fan and lifelong Clevelander, it sucks but I agree.

Just seeing that the premise is the DRAFT and not even a game just seems odd. What is the payoff at the end, they trade for a guy and draft him....................not quite the same as Willie Mays Hayes sliding into home plate on a steal from 2nd while Jake bunts after calling his homerun shot.........................I can't see Bob Eucher yelling "The Browns win it, the Browns win it......oh my GOD the Browns win it".

That said, gonna see it.

I heard in my area east of cleveland that some screenings will be shown today (thursday), might check it out

Just read some reviews all saying the movie sucks..............but that Cleveland and Seattle fans might like it.

Might just be a wait till video I guess.

It would have some redeeming qualities if it completely sucks, but most clevelanders end up liking it.

It would be just like our team :nerd: :nerd: :nerd:

That's what I thought during the preview when I saw it the other day. I guess we're supposed to accept that whoever his target is will turn out to be an All-Pro.

I think the movie description was something like "blah blah blah struggles to trade up for the #1 pick".....................

I do have a feeling that the movie will be enjoyed more by casual or non-fans than us hard-core draft followers.

From what I read:

The Browns trade three #1's for a QB but Costner decides at the last moment to choose a different player.

Sounds like something a Browns GM would do, haha.

:homer:

SOme reviews say it is very boring, especially the first half or so. However, that "boring" just might be stuff people on this forum might like quite a bit.

I think parts of the new Captain America movie were filmed in Cleveland as well.

Yes Captain America Winter Soldier was filmed here also. There has definitely been an increase in films being shot in CLE. I will check this one out, hope it portrays our team in a good light.

A lot of trolling in this thread, half of the posts are from people I have on ignore so I can only assume such.

Looks like a good movie for football fans, I'm sure some will have something bad to say about it.

I'm a football fan and a movie fan. Can't say I'm excited to see this. What exactly is the premise? The Browns can't decide who to draft? I feel like in the previews they show more clips of NFL game footage than they do have clips from the actual movie.

Its a movie, a story and behind the scenes look in the draft room. Enjoy it, don't cry about the NFL giving us something else to enjoy.

Some need to understand the difference between movies and reality. The Premise is about a teams front office draft situation, its not hard to grasp. Whats the premise of any sport movie? Major League or anything? Its sports, its about a team trying to get better and win. I guess that's what this movie is about.

But with movies like Major League, Remember the Titans, Friday Night Lights, etc. there's a payoff of seeing that team win something or become closer as a team. Does this movie end when the Browns make their pick? I just don't think it's look interesting to me.

I dont know, but thats why it interests me.

From Rotten Tomatoes:

On the day of the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver (Costner) has the opportunity to save football in Cleveland when he trades for the number one pick. He must quickly decide what he's willing to sacrifice in pursuit of perfection as the lines between his personal and professional life become blurred on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with dreams of playing in the NFL. © Lionsgate

I love a good football movie, but I too can't quite understand how to make this a compelling story. I mean, what will the stakes really be? If they don't draft one guy they just draft another. That said, it's getting many good reviews like:

If success for "Draft Day" is being entertaining, and pumping up an audience to the point that some viewers will start dreaming about being an NFL general manager, it scores. - Tony Hicks, San Jose Mercury News.

I just don't see how you can make a movie on this and make it interesting. It's a rental at best.
You dont see how they can make a movie about draft day and what happens during and make it interesting. Jerry Maguire took the life of an agent and made it interesting. While I am not making a comparison to the quality of film, I am comparing premise.

I think the interworking of a sports agent a little more interesting and of course they spiced some things up for Hollywood's sake in that movie. But honestly, how interesting is a draft board room? A bunch of guys sitting around debating trades and who to draft? Sounds like my fantasy football draft.

I don't know if Kevin Costner can pull off acting like he knows anything about football. Baseball, yes. Golf, yes. If he can pull this off, he deserves an oscar.
