New Orleans vs Carolina (1 Viewer)

A 3-0 team that has had 30-40% turnover on the roster. New Head Coach and an improved offence vs a 1-2 team that has failed to live up to expectations - barely got by a horrible TB team and overall does not look that good

Who do you pick and why ?? Vegas says Carolina -7.0

Carolina will win. They need it more. Smith is back.

NO is on a high from Monday night.

Thus, I'm benching Brees for Leftwich.

NO

beat CLE and GB

grant it, they were on the road, but those teams are 1-5.

Atl I give them credit, ATL is always inconsistant, but they alway take care of NO, so I give them credit for it.

That said,

I think Carolina is a very good team getting back on track.

Carolina 33

New Orleans 17

ETA:

I also predict NO will lose the next 7 games they play

My thoughts exactly.I got Carolina picked because they need it more, NO is due for a let down after Monday night, and Steve Smith is back. They also discovered they have another weapon in Keyshawn.

Damn. THat's a tad harshI do think Carolina will win. New Orleans caught Atlanta by shutting down the running game and we know how "awesome" the Atlanta passing game is. And even then the Saints secondary gave up some long plays (McKenzie sucks ###)

Now that Steve Smith is back I think Delhomme will get back on track.

Abit harsh, yesRealistic...I think so.

New Orleans next 8 games are

@Car

TB (who is 0-3 coming off a BYE)

PHI

BYE WEEK

Balt

@TB

@Pitt

Cin

@ATL

Ok the 2 TB games I guess are the most win able games for them.

Considering the circumstances, I don't think they win the 1st game against TB, then its a tailspin.

Could be 8 in a row :)

Or they route Carolina this week, and it once again proves I don't know jack!

That emotional high cannot be underrated. Another home game, they probably win. They go on the road to Clemson, they probably lose. I've seen this letdown too many times. I look for Carolina to do to NO what NO did to Atlanta last week. I don't think NO is that bad. They've improved each week. Just that environment was electric, and that is just ripe for a letdown.

i think carolina will play better with smith back. i mean, they have to considering he is what makes the offense go. however, they are terrible running the ball and their o-line is patchwork. i think the saints can make them one dimensional and guys like will smith can tee off on delhomme.

the saints will be able to run the ball. if brees is protected from peppers, which is no small order, he can make smart decisions with the ball and keep turnovers to a minimum.

i think the saints are playing with tremendous confidence. the panthers are desperate and cannot fall behind further in the divisional race. they will be motivated, focused and willing to pull out all of the stops. the saints have played really well against the panthers in recent years.

saints eek out a victory 24-21.

This is the classic trap game. Saints are looking good AND getting 7 points. Seems like an easy call, right?

Wrong.

Carolina 27

Saints 13

Carolina needs this game WAY more and they are a very good team when Steve Smiff is healthy. They will play tough at home and win going away.

Always tough going on the road on a short week. I smell a let down, actually I think it's more like a crash down to reality.

Beginning at Carolina.

N.O. 17

Carolina 23

Carolina has been struggeling and while I expect a win, I do not expect a blow out.

I agree that this game is a good indicator of how good the Saints actually are. Ater a short week, playing a team of Carolina's caliber will be tough. They have a shot, though, and I don't think it'll be a lopsided game. Losing the next 7 games means losing to the Bucs next week, at home, against a rookie QB making his first start. I find that hard to believe.

The Panthers were one-dimensional for pretty much the entire 2005 season.

carolina at home, must win, smith is back and delhomme is loving it

NO on the road after a HUGE, emotional win, grass vs. turf

i think carolina wins, but i'm not sure they cover the 7...

And New Orleans beat them with a far inferior team.

You know they have Tampa Bay twice during that stretch ?

Yawn. By 3. And got smoked by 17 the next time.My only point is that Carolina has been the Steve Smith Show for a while, they are already one dimensional, and cruised into the playoffs that way. Nothing in the Saints gameplan is going to change the fact that as Smith goes, so go the Panthers. The Saints aren't going to make them one-dimensional.

They already are.

Yea,I know that is the limb I am going on.I find it hard to believe TB will start 0-4.They have to win sometime. They will have 2 weeks to prepare for Bush and Co.Along with getting their QB ready.I'll stand by it....for now

and the saints have beaten them consistently. the saints split with them last year, despite the carolina victory coming late in the season well after the katrina-marred situation sank in. they have played carolina hard and won consistently in years past. i tend to dismiss a lot of that history because the team's roster turnover and coaching change. however, what i do take into consideration is how the saints have improved week to week offensively while their defense has been solid. the panthers just don't look like they did last year on either side of the ball. apparently they need to 7 or 8 losses before they get a chip on their shoulder. i tend to think that this games means a lot to each team. the saints played an emotional game monday night but the post game glow has passed and the players/coaches have been saying the right things about the focus being more than that one game. key to the game: if the o-line can protect brees then the saints will win.

And mine is just that the Saints won last year with Aaron Brooks and a much worse defense. This is by no means a "gimme" for either team. If the Saints weren't working on a short week, I'd most certainly bet on them.

Tampa will beat hte Saints because of what? They are due? is that all you got, they have to win sometime? Ridicolous.

What many are discounting is that the Saints have actually put a middle of the pack defense together. not top 5, but 10-15 in the league. I think the Saints outscore Carolina 28-24.

The Carolina Defense has not been that stingy letting up 995 yards and 60 points (broke down the match-up to help decide on a player), so the Saints, who are pretty offensively loaded right now, will be putting up points. I think it comes down to how big a night can Smith and Keyshawn have, and the saints were pretty tight in their coverage Monday night, so a huge night from both receivers is unlikely in my opinion. The Saints have a QB who will check down and lots of targets with nice hands. Put that together with a Saints ground game that is clicking right now, and I think the Saints can win this one if they don't come in flat from a short week.edited to add:Saints 28Carolina 27

I've been a Saints fan for many, many years. But I think we're due for a loss this weekend. Why? Because even if we shut down the run like last week, the Panthers will be able to exploit our still-suspect secondary.

Yeah yeah, Thomas played well, and Bullocks and Harper looked great... but these guys haven't hit the next level yet. A wide-out like Steve Smith will bring us back to earth. Can we stop him? Eh.. the Packers put some yards on us, so I'm not too confident.

Anyway.. a win will be gravy, but a loss will still be worthwhile.

This is a new Saints team. The bumps are to be expected.

Win or lose, people have to rid themselves of their pre-conceived notion of the Saints. This team was talented last year, but no team will have success without proper preperation. Now Payton has brought disipline, and he seems to use his talent better than Haslett. Aside from some suspect, but respectable CBs, this is a very solid team.

Emotion dosn't destroy a team like the Saints did the Falcons. That was a good team, playing a great game.

ATL is always inconsistant, but they alway take care of NO ...
See below -- aside from the second matchup last year, the Saints-Falcons games since 2000 have either been Saints wins or narrow Falcons victories. In no way do they "always take care of" Saints. 2000at Atlanta Falcons (W) 21-19 ...Atlanta Falcons (W) 23- 72001...Atlanta Falcons (L) 13-20 at Atlanta Falcons (W) 28-10 2002...Atlanta Falcons (L) 35-37at Atlanta Falcons (L) 17-242003at Atlanta Falcons (W) 45-17...Atlanta Falcons (W) 23-20 2004at Atlanta Falcons (L) 21-24 ...Atlanta Falcons (W) 26-13 2005...Atlanta Falcons (L) 31-34 at Atlanta Falcons (L) 17-36 2006...Atlanta Falcons (W) 23- 3

Sig bet? Keep in mind the Buccaneers are coming to the Superdome on October 8th.

:goodposting: The emotional aspect of that game for the Saints has been vastly overrated. People talk as if Tulane could have beaten Atlanta as long as they have that kind of emotion behind them

Short week + massive letdown = Panther blowout

People, betting football is not about matching the teams up talent-wise. New Orleans is coming off arguably the biggest game in franchise history. They're going to be on the road, in a short week, playing a team that needs this win and who just got their most important offensive player back from injury. Vegas sets lines to trap the casual gambler. They do not set lines to get equal action on both sides. The casual gambler says: "Wow, the saints are 3 and 0, playing a team that's lucky to be 1 and 2 and they're getting 7.5 points???!!! the saints looked great on Monday!" These are the same people that loaded up on Atlanta on Monday because "The Falcons will run all over the Saints". The books are begging for you to take the Saints, don't take the bait.

I wouldn't bet either team. You're right, road game on a short week is tough, but that line is based 90% on the preseason predictions of both teams. I believe the Panthers are better than 1-2 and Smith is a terrible matchup, but the Saints are a legit 3-0 and 7.5 are alot of points.

This is not the week to bench Brees. The Carolina D has ben suspect to the pass all of last year and this year. In the playoffs last year, Rex Grossman torched them. In general, teams have always passed well against this Car D. Yes they have sack artists but their secondary is an issue

Not to get off track, but what do you guys think about Bush this week? If they get down, I could see him getting more involved then he has been the first 3 weeks.

With Steve Smith back last week, the Panthers still struggled to beat the Bucs. Sean Payton has the Saints playing well, and Fox does not have the Panthers playing at the same level. I like the Saints in this one.

The Panthers lost to the Falcons. The only team they have beaten is TB and that was a close call. I think we find out a lot about both teams. As a Saints fan, I hope they can keep it going. It is hard to win on the road in the NFL. Steve Smith is key in this game. I think Carolina 24-17.

I have to be here to eat crow when there's crow to be eaten. At least the Saints represented themselves well ... bringing a lead into the fourth quarter and only losing by a field goal.

Eh...not that much crow. The Saints played well. This is a very different team than years past with Haslett and Brooks. They almost look like an above average NFL team. Im a half empty person on the Saints, but I am seeing much more focus than before out of that team.

ETA:I also predict NO will lose the next 7 games they play
Saints went 4-3 instead. And have gone up two games on the Panthers in the division.
:goodposting: Thanks for finding this thread, I couldn't find where I made this prediction. I looked all over.I WAS way OFF base, clearly underestimating the Saints. They look like they can make a legitimate run in the NFC.I really underestimated their DI figured they could score some points, but I though their D would be horrible.Good job saints

Thanks,I really wanted to be the one to pull it up, but just couldn't remember if it was a post in a thread relating to gambling, position players, predictions, or the Saints.I gave up after an hourI have always like Brees alot. When the Chargers selected him in the early 2nd RD.I predicted he would have a better career than VickHe had his down time where he looked like he was done, but even I didn't think he would go on a tear like he did.(well see if this Brees post gets bumped up in 10 years)
