***New York*** (3 Viewers)

City feels dead today, I love it. Not a huge fan of the 105 degree day though. Someone in some thread was saying NYC doesn't get that hot/humid in another thread last year - think it was @icon IIRC.

Just a touch above average yesterday & especially today.

felt like I was citibiking through a sponge this morning.

hey- you, or anybody else @BobbyLayne, and the rest of you lot... meeting an old buddy for lunch, but am drawing blanks about a decent sit-down spot (since I mealpal it right back to the office).

any recommendations for no reservation, not expensive sit down spot in the bryant park area?

That joint on 39th I took you to? Parker & sumtin.

Good stuff here.  Chicks dig Wicked.  It's my wife's favorite, and it's entertaining enough to watch as a guy, while the girls will likely love it.

Tenement museum is awesome. Check it out in advance as they have different types of exhibit... some are more traditional in that you go into rooms that are done up with period items as if it were still the home of an Italian immigrant from 1920's or Jewish from 1890's or whatever.  You are standing in their life, it's pretty cool.  They also do food / tasting exhibits of different cultures, various lengths of walking tours and, as noted really close to a lot of things (including El Katzo)

To the last part, You're a JERK... But it's ok.  Unless you remember that there are two speeds in New York.  Move fast... or get outta da way.
By the way, the little Tenement museum gift shop is pretty great for NYC-centric gifts.

Xi-an Famous Foods is right there, prob not what you're looking for, but very tasty. Bryant Park Grill I bet you don't need a reservation today - even if it was crowded, I'd imagine a bunch of cancellations. $30-$45 a man with no beverages.

Never been to Parker & Quinn, but that looks like an accurate response for your request.

Anyone in here buy lunch everyday? My company caters once a week, the other 4 I'm on my own. Typical lunch costs? I'm roughly $12-$17 a day.

yeah- that's about right.

I buy lunch every day outside of a rare leftovers day.

but I've been using mealpal for 12 of the lunches a month... totally enjoying it, and also enjoy paying $7 all in per lunch. otherwise, yeah- 12-17 is dead on. if you or anybody else are interested, I think I get kickbacks for signing new people up.

ftr, parker & quinn was waaaay better than the crap indian spot I took gb bl to. so he wins.

We spent the week of July 4th in NYC. Bought unlimited subway pass for a week. Used the subway every day but didn't have any issues. Mets and Yankee games. Lion King and Aladdin shows for the kids. Central Park was nice. Would recommend 911 memorial & museum - very emotional. Food was expensive unless grabbing a Nathan's dog off a food truck. Used Uber and taxi's. Uber service was good. taxi drivers always complained of the short rides we took. Ellens Stardust Diner was excellent (aspiring broadway wait staff that perform) and food was good. For dessert check out Serendipity!

40 years ago tonight...the blackout of 1977. That was a crazy summer.
That was before my time but the blackout of 2003 was a lot of fun except for the whole lack of electricity thing.  One of my favorite memories from my 10 years in NYC.

That's about right.  I got tired of eating crap meals for that price so I started meal prepping at home, saved myself a ton and ate much better.  It's a bit of a time suck but you can knock out a week's worth of food in an hour or two.

Dammit... I keep wanting to do this for the finance side (I eat healthy lunches typically), but between the time to shop and prep, I never do.

Yeah, it was really the only way for me to eat as healthy as I'd like.  Also helped the budget and enabled me to rationalize spending $500 on denim.  I typically grill up 5-10 chicken breasts and cook a batch of rice or black beans.  Put them in containers for the week.  Before work I'd throw in a salad and sliced avocado with salsa to each container.  You're done.  It's not really not that complicated but yes a little time involved.  It helps if you have a grill to cook up all the chicken at once.

The last six months has seen a huge deterioration of service on the two lines I ride everyday (F and AC) or used to ride everyday as Citi bike has been a great stop gap for me as I can ride to the 2/3 line which is much more consistent.

Of course the entire system is entirely unreliable at this point and I think as painful as it will be some of these suggestions in this article are very good.  While painful for me closing certain lines to do critical upgrades and maintenance is something that needs to be considered as what is currently going on won't work.  I am ok with higher fares as well for improved service as I think it is pretty clear Albany won't help NYC even though NYC basically funds the entire upstate region once you get north of Westchester/Rockland.
This is fine.

Stupid question, but does cooked chicken last that long?

had a date night last saturday... hit up great jones spa, vandal, public hotel bar, melt (ice cream sandwich).

my neighborhood is such a ####-show.

hey- for anybody interested in Mealpal, the lunch program where you pre-buy lunches at various neighborhood restaurants (they have one meal per day available- so you don't get a choice, other than choosing between many restaurants)... today only, they're giving away $50 amazon cards to anybody I sign up.. plus I get the same for each person.

I've been using this for several months... ends up being right about $7 per lunch, all-in. and I'm eating at all the same spots (minus pret a manger) I'd normally eat it for $12-15. alidoro, grk, chop't, etc, etc. tons of options.

let me know if you're interested... free money.

Fan of that Vandal spot.  Some of my friends were commissioned to paint there.  And yeah, the LES has definitely changed over the past 10-15 years.

Can you guys recommend a nice "rooftop" bar near MSG?  Headed up to the Phish shows this weekend and thats basically my wifes one request.   Staying at the Executive Hotel Le Soleil.

IS there one you can just walk in and out of with reservations?  Thinking we'll still have some energy after the shows to go get a drink somewhere like that.

tbh, i genuinely disliked vandal as a restaurant. reminded me of tao.... loud, bad (to me) music with loud, bad (people) packed into a huuuge spot with overseasoned and oversauced food at premium prices. if I was 20, drunk and high, in a group and flush with cash late night... meh... probably still wouldn't have loved it.

public is a nice spot though (lobby bar- roof bar was too long a line). but my neighborhood, especially in the summer weekends, brings the dooshiest of dooshes no matter where.

How many meals do I have to get a week?

Yeah, I went to one of the opening parties and had a great time.  Really liked the art, free drinks/food, etc.  I could see it being a sh*tshow otherwise.

And yes, NYC on the weekends is rough but the summer weekends are even worse as so many locals head East.

Check Top of The Strand or Gallow Green.  Close to MSG.

I just went to the refinery on 38th... Decent

thanks guys.  Is there anything else kinda fun/unique you can get into from like 11pm to 1am?  No clubs or anything.
