Pylos is great. I miss all the quality affordable restaurant options I had when I lived on E. 10th st. In Tribeca if you want sushi it's either Nobu or Food Emporium. btw El Floppo - have you tried Atlas (on 2nd ave near 5th st)? Small little shop with some outdoor seating. It's a little gem. Probably my favorite breakfast place in NYC for the price. I'd get a grilled chicken egg white platter with whole wheat bagel for $4.95. Their crepes are amazing. Good coffee as well.

I know we've tried that spot- but we haven't been back for no good reason other than it's outside the 5 block radius and the crepe is an occasional craving by the Mrs. If they deliever, I'll be keeping that place in mind too-

It's all personal preference. You can't go wrong with Lugers. The best thing about Lugers is their bacon and that's what gives them the edge over other top steakhouses. If I'm going purely for steak, my favorite place is Striphouse.

yea. for me, i thought lugers steak was overrated. THe sides are great. the bacon and the creamed spinach are awesome. I like del friscos better. but lugers is definitely a place worth checking out.

That's a schlep for a weekend trip. Worth it, but 4+ hours of driving. I've only really spent time in Lake George and Lake Placid- with no camping at either. Curious to see what the experts say...

We headed into Fat Hippo down the street on Clinton the other night after realizing Clinton Bakery was closed. Very happy with it (American comfort food done up a bit with nice fresh ingredients)- tasty, cheapish ($10-15 entrees), with strong drinks.

Will have to check that place out. A great hidden little restaurant on the LES/Chinatown area is Grotto. I used to live a few blocks from it and the atmosphere is perfect for a date. The lady or if you rollerblade (the man) will be impressed you know of it. Les Enfants Terribles is another great spot for dinner, lunch or brunch. Fun atmosphere for dinner with a good crowd. I'd probably explain it as being Schillers w/o the bs. I generally take first dates here as it doesn't break the bank and has a bit of a bar scene so doesn't scream trying too hard.

And corner store on 4th and 2nd ave next to Atlas has 3 for $5 Odwalla specials everyday. Considering Whole Foods sells these things for $3.50 and I can't find them cheaper than $3 anywhere else in the country, this is definitely a loss leader but great for those who love Odwalla.

So I finally gave TWC the :finger: after going to their 23rd st. office to try to transfer an account 4 times I finally ditched them.

I switched to Verizon, they make you get a home phone (can't just get internet and cable), but even with the phone it is about the same price as TWC.

With Verizon you get DirectTV (NFL Sunday ticket), an internet connection that is about 3x bigger then TWC plus a landline phone which will come in handy for conference calls working from home.

What is interesting is that the internet connection appears to come from your phone line and not the cable. DirectTV I'm assuming is through coax right? I know it is typically through a satellite hookup, but there was no mention of a dish or having to have line of site to a certain part of the sky etc...ETA - RCN did not service my building so Verizon was my 3rd choice. I'm pretty sure Fios is not available either, I checked a few weeks ago.

They both said you need to make reservations several weeks ahead of time if you want a prime hour on the weekend (between 7pm and 9pm). They both take walk-ins, but the wait can be up to an hour or more. I am going to try La Focaccia tomorrow, since I got a reservation at the right time for us, but am considering walking in at Lupa. I have been really wanting to go there and am a big fan of Batali in general. I don't think tomorrow is going to be the right time for it, though.

I wound up going to Casa instead of La Focaccia and it was great. One of the best meals I have had in a long time. The service was just ok, but the food is fantastic. Casa is also a nice, intimate place in a great neighborhood (only a couple of blocks from Little Owl). Dell'anima sounds good too and I will give it a try.

That's great the people from The Salt Lick will be there. Easily the best BBQ sauce I've ever had. Anyone in Texas knows this place. About 40 minutes outside of Austin, in the middle of nowhere and always packed.

Rents have def came down. No reason to pay a brokers fee. If you do you are either rich, don't have time to look on your own or stupid. If you don't mind living in one of those midtown high rises there are plenty of places offering 1-3 months free rent.

I think it is but a few of my English friends are members so I just tag along with them. You can bring up to 4 guests. I really enjoy the pool upstairs. Good, clean, fun. Their Halloween party is also pretty sweet. If you apply for a membership, don't say you're a banker/lawyer as they're trying to attract more rich and successful artists.

I went there a week ago, normally after a soccer game at Chelsea Piers we get drunk and feast on wings and our tab is only like $60-70 because the bartender knows what a buy-back is. We go to Blondies since we were playing on the UWS and our tab was $190, I ask the bartender if he hooked us up while staring at the bill, his response, "Yeah man, we gave you the team discount and I gave you lots of free stuff." Not once did he tell us this pitcher was on him... Glad they got busted. Oh yeah they don't serve Car Bombs there because the owner had a bad experience 1 time with a group of guys that got drunk off of them.

Ok been to Virgil's, sides were small but that didn't bother me, always get full on the meat anyway. Brisket was nothing special, seemed like it was on par with Brother Jimmy's also had the pulled chicken, again not bad but nothing super. Still on my list: Dinosaur BBQ, Blue Smoke (ate there once many years ago) and Daisy Mays only because everyone here raves about it, but we used to get DM catered here at work and was never impressed.

My personal favorite nyc BBQ joints:

1. Hill Country (moist brisket, ribs)

2. Righteous Urban BBQ (burnt ends: limited availability, bacon)

3. Southern Hospitality (biscuit, sides, ribs)

4. Waterfront Ale House (pulled pork sandwich, house hot sauce)

7. Virgil's

8. Brother Jimmy's (on the list out of courtesy because I like their bars but their food does not stack up against the competition)
