I went there a week ago, normally after a soccer game at Chelsea Piers we get drunk and feast on wings and our tab is only like $60-70 because the bartender knows what a buy-back is. We go to Blondies since we were playing on the UWS and our tab was $190, I ask the bartender if he hooked us up while staring at the bill, his response, "Yeah man, we gave you the team discount and I gave you lots of free stuff." Not once did he tell us this pitcher was on him... Glad they got busted. Oh yeah they don't serve Car Bombs there because the owner had a bad experience 1 time with a group of guys that got drunk off of them.

Visited NYC for the first time. Took my wife and two kids ages 12 and 9. Was there for two days and one night. we wanted to go to Chinatown, but the 9 year old was bored to death and was talking about pizza even before we left for NYC.

So we ended up in Little Italy after our Statue of Liberty tour, kinda to appease him. Went to Frankie Cee's for pizza. Good pizza, reasonable prices, had some beer. Everyone satisfied.

I used to use OZ but would just get raped when all was said in done. Last time I just used a random service on CL. 3 Chinese guys showed up to my house with a big truck. Nothing fancy. You provide the boxes and have them packed and ready. I paid $60/hr. I think there was a 2 hr min. Lasted around 4 hours. They were quick and I helped them so the process went faster. $240. Beats the $700-1500 I've paid previously.

so far haven't been too impressed with NYcityVAN...

I email them to get a fax # so they can take care of my building's insurance form:

"We just moved into a new office, no fax, can you email it to us?"

I email it to them on Friday morning from our photocopier and email them from my desk to ensure they got it, I get an email on SATURDAY, "nope didn't get it."

I email it to them again on Monday and follow up with a phone call.

"Sorry our office is closed on Monday."

I call them again today, get voicemail and they say do not leave a message, email is better.

I email them to make sure they got it as well as my box order (they list boxes on their site).

A few hours later I get a response, "Sorry Alias, I have HUNDREDS of emails to go through and just saw this now. You need to provide your own boxes, our box supplier went out of business, also we charge $20 to sign your insurance form."

I certainly hope they don't rip me off on charges after the move is over.

Actually they were pretty cool. 3 artists showed up, 1 was a dancer, another a writer and I didn't hear what the 3rd one did. I think there were cheaper options out there, but I'd use these guys again.$150/hr, took 3.5 hours, they give a 4% cash discount, $20 to file the insurance paperwork required by my building.Gave them a $60 tip ($20 each).Nothing broke, they didn't charge me to package or help setup my stereo equipment. Also they didn't talk finances until it was over, most guys hit you up front with all of the extra charges you are going to incur. They do require a $150 deposit in advance.

Our GB's bar, Perdition, is just up the street so no chance of us heading all the way to that hood and go anywhere but there.So the wife wanted to get dinner/cocktails out after work last night- with the kid. We've got a handful of places in the area that are good for an earlyish (7), no reservations bite/drink that can handle our 2 year old (and vice-versa), and we decided to go to one of them- the restaurant for the Hotel on Rivington called Thor (we've been a ton with the kid since it's always pretty empty early).

Since the last time we've been, they've changed ownership and is now called something else and is french. They also changed their cocktail menu... average cocktail price: $20. LOW AVERAGE. and yeah- that's TWENTY FREAKING DOLLARS ($19-24).

I'd just gotten used to the $12-16 cocktail... anybody else notice things going nutty for drinks? Oh- food was meh. The aps were better thank the mains, which would tell me it's a good place to go for drinks and a snack... except the drinks are 20 ####### dollars.

I hear you about Thor... it did used to be good when it first opened, but has progressed to being pretty- as I said- meh in it's recent iterations.Why even bother? Clinton restaurants = small and crowded at 7:30. You did read the part where we went with our two year old son, right? Thor is an occasional thing for us when we're burned out of the other more kid friendly spots... probably not any more (although it's still really kid friendly)

Hill country is outstanding! they fly in their sausages from Kreuz in Lockhart texas which is probably the best bbq in the world. BTW Monday nights they have an all you can eat deal if im not mistaken.

Seems like $12-16 is de rigeur at this point. (and I'm talking specialty, house-cocktails- not "vodka/tonic" etc).But we don't really go out to bars any more, so maybe we're just paying the premium for getting our drinks on at restaurants?

Ok been to Virgil's, sides were small but that didn't bother me, always get full on the meat anyway. Brisket was nothing special, seemed like it was on par with Brother Jimmy's also had the pulled chicken, again not bad but nothing super. Still on my list: Dinosaur BBQ, Blue Smoke (ate there once many years ago) and Daisy Mays only because everyone here raves about it, but we used to get DM catered here at work and was never impressed.My personal favorite nyc BBQ joints:1. Went to Dinosaur BBQ last night, revised my top 10 above. Very good meal, VERY VERY cheap, pitchers of beer were like $15, tab for 12 people include a lot of pitchers, 2 rounds of shots and tip included in bill = $400 (35 each)I had the Ode to Elgen: Brisket (not as good as Hill Country) + 1/4 rack of Ribs (not as big as Hill Country but done very well) + a tasty Elgen sausage + 2 sides (mac n' cheese - very cheesey, very good + creole potato salad - best potato salad I have ever had) + small piece of cornbread. I hear the wings from this place are incredible and I'm kicking myself for not getting an order of 3 - next time, I will be back.131st St. & 12th Ave.

John's Pizza is a well know place and is good, but touristy/theater crowd.Casa is one of my favorite restaurants in general (that isn't too expensive). It's regional Brazilian (not a steakhouse) and is in a great part of the city (West Village) if you want to walk around afterwards. Here is their website

Definitely hit Spotted Pig. Love breaking up my day with a long lunch there. Great burgers. Dinner equally good but more crowded. Hit Blue Ribbon if you're out late and want a great meal. Easily one of the best late night restaurants in NYC.
