Enough with all the family stuff. Let's get back to restaurants, bars, and women.

Ex-TV writer punches poodle in face, kills it

June 17, 2012 (NEW YORK) -- Police say a former television screenwriter was arrested after punching his poodle in the face so hard that it died of a brain injury.

The New York Post reports Sunday that 51-year-old Ted Shuttleworth was arrested Saturday at his home in Queens. The Post says Shuttleworth punched his dog on May 29 because he was angry with the animal. The dog weighed about four pounds.

A spokesman for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says the dog sustained a traumatic brain injury.

The newspaper reports Shuttleworth is a former TV writer who once worked for "NYPD Blue." He could face up to a year in prison.

His wife tells the newspaper that the dog's death was a "horrible accident."

Clubs: Le Bain, Avenue, Electric Room, Le Baron, The Box and Bantum were all quality. Hard to get in so make sure you're with models, a black amex or some pr girls that know everyone and get you in for free :bowtie:
My girl and I will be staying Cityside Saturday night (yes, bridge and tunnel night). She loves to dance, yet we dance less in NYC than anywhere else, and we live here. What's the best approach? She's 26, and gets nicely dolled up. Im, well, Im a 39 year old dude. Any suggestions for a place with good dance / top 40 type DJs and would getting there by say 11:30 (or even 11, dare I say) get us in?Sad that I have more pull in Vegas and Montreal than here in NYC. :coffee:

Le Bain is an awesome spot (in the Standard Hotel). Door can be tough but if you get their early enough and you're with a bird, you can prob get in. NYC bouncers are normally couple friendly if you and your woman look dashing :style:  to Montreal....Vegas, I can take it or leave it.

I've been to Le Bain, but not late night. To be honest, it was a bit gauche, and filled with euro-#####. Is it a better scene at night? Dancing / DJs?And by dashing I hope you mean I don't have to wear a fedora. My experience elsewhere is if you get there a little early and, as you say, have a honey on your arm, it should be ok.And yeah to Montreal. My favorite city outside of NYC, and in some ways, it's better.

Honestly I don't listen to Top 40 music so I have no idea. Just turn on the radio. Le Bain is fun at night. Never seen so much scattered ### in one spot. Can get a little Euro but I like those girls. Avenue is fun (more hip hop). Amy Sacco also just opened up her new Bungalow spot. Electric Room is really cool. I had fun there. I'm not sure what is best on the weekend though in the summer. Most of us are summering out East :bowtie:

Yeah, many are out east - which allows nice 59-99 dollar rates for us (Ill be staying at the Renaissance 57). Avenue looked cool and Ill look into Electric Room. Haven't been to Employees Only yet - tried once but it was two guys, not really dressed for it, my girl and there may have been a private party. Either way, I blame TU. Will check in if we do anything worth while.

I'm good friends with the EO owners. You shouldn't have a problem there. Get there for drinks around 10-11 before da club. Great spot to wind up your lady. Shoot me a PM if you need more info.

I think it was because we weren't employees

Hit up Employees Only - it was a cool vibe, although my uber high expectations meant there wasnt much room to be wowed. Definitely a cool scene to start a night.

Ended up getting the name of some bouncer at TenJune, some ok place in the meatpacking district. My girl loved it though (decent dance place I suppose, but a lotta B&Ters), though that's what matters.

I must say, as far as dance clubs, I can't say NYC is my fav. So much pomp and circumstance even to get in. Love the emerging lounge scene though (this is where I'd put EO) and of course, just the bars in general.

Yeah, EO is the place to start and end the night...as for Tenjune, :yucky:

Yeah tenjune is what it is. What's the option, Cielo? (yes, sarcasm)At least I got some free drinks at tenjune thanks to my wife and some meatheads with a table.

I really like Le Bain at night. It's tough to get in if you don't know someone or w/ beautiful wimmenz (par for the course for Major ;) Le Baron in Chinatown is great on certain nights. They run with that hipster schtick where if you look like you work at a corporate job, you're not getting in (even if you buy bottles). Best to grow a beard and look homeless. Gold Bar is quality on Sundays. Electric Room and Avenue are fun most nights. Amy Sacco just opened the new Bungalow 8. I look forward to checking out 8 when I'm up there. I'll report back.

Whoa... there's a name from the past- I used to kinda know her socially, and one of my old firms did Lot 61 for her.Major- you're back in the city, right?

I'll be back Monday. Maybe, we should plan a cornhole to see Neymar rep Brasil in the Olympics?

In regards to Sacco, that's cool. I never knew her well but met her a few times through friends and stuff. Lot 61 was one of the first clubs in that West Chelsea area. I moved to NYC in 99 so that place took off a little after that. I remember they had some bed party for their Anniversary (before that was the cool club thing to do) and people were just going nuts. Free drink and beds for the taking = :banned: :pickle:

She's making a resurgence of sorts. I think this new Bungalow could be solid. Everyone I know misses the old Bungalow 8 :kicksrock:

I'm going to age myself, but I remember a club called... MK? that was set up like a townhouse with differnt rooms including bedrooms. And beds. in the 80s or early 90s. I win.I also remember a guy in the office- a tiny guy- being absolutely gonzo about Sacco because she was such an amazon.

A game would be nice... olympics makes sense.

Saw Harvey tonight at the Studio 54 theatre - really solid performance. Stupid obligatory standing ovation.

For those going to a show, especially closer to 42nd, the West Bank Cafe ( 42 n 9th) is low key but nice and really good. Had an amazing pork chop.

Took a bird to Rosemarys in the West Village last night. Great date spot with a good crowd. Our waitress was #### but the food is awesome and won't break the bank.

If you are down in the LES, a great new bar opened called Dudley's on orchard, a block south of delancy. Cool vibe, ridiculously good drinks, reasonably priced and downright value if you see the effort going into the cocktails and what looked like solid to good nice bar food.

:blackdot:We're trying to institute a semi-rgular date-night, now that the kids are on a good schedule and we've found a decent baby-sitter who lives down the street instead of in another borough (which puts an additional taxi-fee on top of an already expensive night). We hit Stanton Social for dinner for the first time in years (we used to go quite a bit when it opened, but the whole reservations thing became insane)... funny to see that it's turned into a birthday party place. Food was still good though. Also went to Sons of Essex after for drinks for the first time, despite being able to see it from our apartment. Felt like we were in an LA version of what a Brooklyn spot would look like and we felt like tourists on our own block. Lots of hipster doofus waiters and waitresses and I missed the memo that all men are required to wear plaid shirts (ok- I got the memo and ripped it up). But the menu looked good- anybody eaten there?

Yes, the food is awesome. Great music all day if you like old school hip hop. Major lives a block away and friends with some of those guys. If you're over there, I'll stop in for a drink. BTW, I may be down for a cornhole mañana if any of you are keen. Note: I don't go north of Houston so plan accordingly.

It's decent....great restaurant on Orchard just south of Houston is French Dinner. It's small but intimate. Major got his :pickle: on after that meal. It helps if the girl is French.

Headed to NYC for the first time, Thursday through Sunday. Tons of great recommendations in this thread that I ll be using. We re staying at the Fairfield Marriott. I know it's around 37th and 5th. Checking out the usual tourist stops and looking for anything else you guys might be able to add. Good pizza places to grab a slice, anything to do with history, anything that is free or cheap to do.

We might try a walking tour, think it's through hell's kitchen showing some famous spots in organized crime history. Takes about 2 hours. Anybody tried it? Worth it?

If you just didn't get your dance on enough Saturday night, Beau Marchais in the meatpacking district has a ridiculously fun Sunday brunch that turns into a dance club in the middle of the afternoon.

Went yesterday with the Wife and it was a freakin' blast. Got there at 1:00, had a drink and french toast. Food was pretty good... but then around 2 the music got a bit louder.

Then at 2:30 the DJ started.

By 3, the shades were pulled down, scantily clad dancers were doing their thing (the paid kind, cage dancing sans cage), and 98% of the people were up dancing, many of them on their seats, tables, booths. I have to admit, it was one of the most fun times Ive had in a NY club. Just a friendly, have fun vibe. Everyone there either had money or played like they did, but the feeling was not pretentious at all. Maybe it's because at 4PM when the party is in full swing, you don't have half passed out people, or over emotional drunk chicks or people puking outside, but this was as good, fun and light a vibe as I've felt in the City.

Would definitely do it again. Need reservations generally, although if you are a couple hot chicks I'm sure you can get in... really unlike anything I'd ever seen before.

No. My office was on 9th btw 44/45 for a few years so I'd see that area on the regular. I wouldn't waste my time. Read the history and walk the streets yourself.

If Koya or TU can make it, text me. I'm up for it.
I'm down fo sho
I'll text you in the pm, let me see what these work people are doing. I think I can ditch them if they try to go to an expensive restaurant.
Cool
DD - how long you in town, or already gone?Hipster Nation!

What bar should I go to tonight? Last night in NYC. We've been to Johnny Utah's, mcsorley's, Hurley's, some Irish bar on 45th near 6th, and a decent hole in the wall sports bar a few doors down from mcsorley's that had MLB ticket.

I'm out of touch due to wife and kids, but we've been to a couple of bar/restaurants down the street from us that are more trendy than that list and might give you a fun and different last night. Sons of Essex is one, Beauty and Essex is the other- they're basically across the street from each other (and us).But wait for Major or Koya to report in- I've become a tourist in my own neighborhood when it comes to nightlife.

Standings. Really solid sports bar. Good beer selection. But it's tiny.

Standings. That's it. I was told by an idiot woman that didn't even work there, that I couldnt watch the baseball game I wanted to because it was "opening ceremony night". She quietly booed the USA when they came out.

Concur, that place is pretty neat. Well decorated and a decent amount of beer on tap.

Yeah, some of those may be a little to slick for some FBGs. I'd recommend Schillers Liquor Bar on Rivington. Great food, drink and vibe. Much better atmosphere than Pastis and a better crowd.
