I haven’t really seen it. Of course, I have never hung out on shore during the week in March. Seems much less crowded then Summer but don’t have a real frame of reference for March.

Also, lot of empty house in our town. Lots of retired people here who go to Florida and those folks are still in Florida so even with folks like me and others there it is not full.
Yea my concern was that our Mayor basically told folks not to come to shore towns(other places like marthas vinyard have been saying the same).  In theory it makes sense but if everyone does it than the hospitals get overwhelmed quick.   Hard to say which is ideal.

stay safe yall.

Are you in Long Beach?  To be honest, think Northern towns are more able to handle more people. I have four large grocery stores within a 5 to 10 minute drive. That is much more then I had in BK. In BK only large ones was a Whole Foods and fairway and then a glorified bodegas calling themselves grocery stores.  However, I could see the issue on an island like Long Beach.

No im up in Essex County.  I would agree, the further north the better but definitely keep your ear out for if the hospitals are overflowing or if there are issues with supply chain for grocery stores in whichever shore town you choose.  But i have heard of some towns with inventory issues and hospitals that were already turning away people like a week or two ago.

Our concern in relocating is getting somewhere that also gets hit, but can't handle it- medically or supply chain-wise.

We're comfortable here. We're safe, stocked and set up and know what to do and where to go if something happens. We also have two cats and a marimba we'd have to relocate.

yea.  NYC is getting alot of resources sent that way.  I told my Aunt and Uncle ill pick them up whenever but they are comfortable where they are.  I think so long as you play it smart and socially distance from folks you will be fine.

Man imagine when this is over that first day out!

Ok, feel like Hospitals here can’t be any worse then they will be in BK.

I’m sitting on my balcony (in Hoboken) while my daughter is taking a nap and there’s not a damn cloud in the sky and the sun is brilliant. Still hard to believe this is happening.

I can see about 50 other balconies and I can count 15 people sitting out just getting some fresh air. No activity in the courtyard below us.

 Surreal.
On the rare occasion I see another human while walking around the block, they move to the extreme opposite edge of the sidewalk. Or cross the street.

In the building it’s a lot of hand waving & “I’ll get the next one.” The new norm is don’t even think about sharing this elevator with me.

I will keep the updated numbers in the first post so as not to keep reminding people of them every day.

Stay safe everyone.
Thanks bro, you too.

I made a conscious choice on Monday to stay informed but not look at NYC stuff too much. I knew it would be bad & it’s likely to get a little worse before it starts to come down. Just realized I had no idea where the city numbers were at.

It’s weird, but I really miss very little about NYC. It’s only been two weeks, but my wife and I both agreed on this today. This morning we took a ride to the neighborhood basketball and tennis court (empty). We played basketball, wiffle ball, tennis, and had races. Came back to the house, threw the football in the street, then went for a swim. Cooked burgers on the grill afterwards and played around in a game room.

When this is all over, good chance the FC family starts looking for a job in warmer weather. Even with a 30% haircut, I think I’d still be ahead here.

I did have a snake hiding in a bush by my front door and a raccoon the size of elephant run by, but nothing that can’t be managed, tradeoffs.

About the only thing keeping us from going full time to Boise was my wife feeling she couldn't work there full time with her company. That is becoming no longer a concern.

so they loaded up the truck.... and moved to Boiiiiiiiii, seeeeeeee.

We are in Sea Girt so a couple of towns south of Ocean Grove.  It is very quiet down here but way to many people on the boardwalk such that they had to close it down.  Still allowed on the beach which we have done twice so kids can run around/play in sand.  We stay completely to ourselves on beach and go to a beach that is not off boardwalk with basically no one on it.  Playgrounds, tennis courts, etc. are all closed which is good (wish NYC would do that).  Also, having a yard here is huge for sanity of us and kids.  One aspects is we don't know anyone down here really except for immediate neighbors (one of whom is in Florida and the other is a single lady who usually lives in Manhattan) so no pressures of seeing kids friends around and then wanting to play with friends.  We stay basically to ourselves and other than going for a run and trips to beach mentioned above we are entirely holed up.

As for shopping we have not been to grocery store.  Actual only shopping I did was buying a propane tank for the grille from a gas station on the first day we arrived.  I did drive by the local grocery store we would hit up and it seemed pretty quiet but that was like 19th or so.  Note sure what it is like now.

We avoided grocery stores by hauling a big chunk of our food down here and made the closest Peapod reservation we could which was about two weeks out (made reservation before we even left for the shore).  It showed up yesterday with about 3/4s of our order which was admittedly huge given long wait between orders.  TP, cleaning supplies, can goods and meat/chicken was bulk of missing items.  Though we got all the fruits and veggies we ordered (except strangely onions) and basically all pasta, chicken nuggets for kids and way to snacks/junk food.  Also, only got like half the bread we wanted.  We have a bunch of extra frozen chicken we brought down so end result is pretty good for us but wife and I are talking of doing a small quick local shopping trip next week.  I want to do the trip as I know I will be in and out in like a half hour but my wife is fighting me since I have asthma but I couldn't live with it if she went and got sick.

Lastly, Asbury Park Press website has good local news on stuff around here related to Coronavirus if looking for it.  Definitely, cases but not like crush of NYC.   Link to website - https://www.app.com

Hope this helps and let me know if you need more info.
You & Flop are in my neck of the  shore now. Lived in Bradley Beach, Spring lake and Manasquan, now in on the beach in Elberon.

Houston and A quiet this week, but still somewhat regular foot traffic. But easily keeping 6' or way more. I'm talking 2-8 people max spread out along a short block at a given time .

Almost midnight on a Friday night here in LES EVil...there are no cars. No people....ah- a car and a cab just went by. and a couple more. Beautiful Friday night on the verge of spring would normally be bedlam here. Not a soul out.

See by me in the burbs all parks are closed but everyone is ignoring.  Literally hundreds in the parks close together.

I'm getting a little restless and wish I had options to get out of here.  Also, what if they close the grocery stores?  We’ll have to hunt for our food.  I don’t even know where Doritos live.

Last weekend, I was pretty annoyed at the amount of people in the park by our house but the last few days have been much better, with people just walking and keeping their distance.

Same at the ps school play yard across the street. We were there yesterday and people were being great...even commumicating how to give ourselves enough spread.

Except for my ####### upstairs neighbors frolicking with another family over there yesterday.

Yea it’s really frustrating.  And the doctors and nurses and people who can’t get a damn ventilator will catch the brunt of this.
Honestly...part of my concern about leaving is this kind of behavior. And I'm hearing this sentiment of won't happen here to us because we're not NYC or LA even in the FFA.

Granted...wherever we'd relocate, we'd be doing what we're doing here- staying in and staying safe when/if we go out, so the only affect on us of the herd/ignorance mentality would be those hospitals and health services getting overloaded.

Agreed.  If anything i want to be in a state where they continue to have the shelter in place.  My worry is once the weather stays really nice or trump tells people to go back to normal that’s when #### will really hit the fan.

President Donald Trump said Saturday that he was considering an "enforceable quarantine" in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area due to the coronavirus outbreak, saying the decision could come as soon as later in the day.

“Some people would like to see New York quarantined because its a hot spot. New York, New Jersey, maybe one or two other places. Certain parts of Connecticut quarantined,” Trump said as he left the White House en route of Norfolk, Va. to see off the USNS Comfort, a Navy hospital ship that is headed to New York to provide extra hospital space to help fight the outbreak.

Yep.

Trump considering stuff...I'll wait until something actually happens before even thinking about it.
What doesn't make sense is in a week or so there will be many areas ramping way up, there already are right now. We could see 15+ states with 1k new cases a day at that point.

Served 302 guests grab n go breakfasts today at The Father’s Heart. Each person also received two bags from the food pantry. There were 42 first timers; before The Time of Corona a typical week would see 5-10 newcomers. This is the third week in a row we’ve set a new record for new Food Pantry ID cards.

I hadn’t been off the block since last Saturday morning, probably won’t venture out until next Saturday.

ADDENDUM

Walking through the EV on my way to the train I came upon a familiar scene: NYPD using its loudspeaker - with windows rolled up - in a vain attempt to evict a person living on the street. Evictee was getting livid & loud so my prayer was short. Thankfully was able to deescalate the situation; the last time I ran across this, 8 uniformed officers with riot shields came into Whole Foods to remove a 120 pound senior citizen. Not joking.

Had a brief chat with New York’s finest, offered I would be able to help the person find an open shelter. They were cool & bugged out.

My new friend had been sleeping in the arched vestibule of the 10th St Church of Christ. Helped them throw their cardboard & bedding into a nearby dumpster. An older gentleman stepped out of the townhouse next door.

Introduced myself, turned out he was the Pastor; he dialed 911 because he couldn’t get into the front door & didn’t want to break social distancing. But he was kind enough to open the church so my bff could use the bathroom.

Texted a friend, who called Bowery Tribeca to confirm they have a vacancy; he returned my text a few minutes later with good news.

We took the train down to Canal St & walked over to 90 Lafayette (Bowery TriBeCa née NY Rescue Mission.) They will get a bed for 7 days as a first time visitor.

Besides three hots & a cot, they’ll be assigned an Ambassador & a Social Worker on Monday to help navigate their challenges. Lost IDs, fired from job when the restaurants closed, possibly housing, and if applicable, find a rehab program. (my new bff told me they were two working weeks away from having enough to get a place.)

Said goodbye, when I left they were in good spirits.

Be available, be expectant, be present, be ready.

Was in Veniero’s today picking up a donation. They were gonna shut down for the duration at 5pm today. The current owner, Frank, told me all his remaining guys walked off the job a few days ago...counter help, dishwashers, delivery, et al - everybody.

“Sorry Mr Zerilli, but we wanna live.”

we're in apt 2a. our neighbors of 20 years in 2c (only 3 apts on our floor) are an elderly couple- great people. she's had a really rough year, healthwise- had a full time nurse and has looked physically grim (but still smiling) the last few time's I'd seen her. I checked in on them this afternoon- yelling through their door without touching it. heard him cough a couple times before answering. how are you guys doing? sick. I didn't ask with what... just offered to help get them whatever they needed and for them to reach out for anything.

but #### me. genuinely scared now. like - for real scared. she's not going to make it. :(  maybe not him either if it's covid. and I'm second guessing every moment I've spent in our hallway now- wondering if I missed wiping down after going to the garbage room or through the door down the stairs, or in the elevator... and of course today of all days, my own cough is back... with allergy season and my cough-variant asthma, most of the covid symptoms are part of my daily life minus the fever.  ####.

Good for you on checking on them.  It could be anything at that age so try not to get too paranoid.  I know my allergies have been kicking my ###.  just getting over some sort of sore throat/post nasal something myself.

I booked the house I’m currently staying at until May 31st today. I still don’t miss NYC one bit. I’ll prob be fired in 6-8 weeks from my job, idk if we’re gonna come back.

If we do come back, it won’t be for longer than my 1st grader finishes 5th.

Life in nice weather, with a yard, pool, etc... At some juncture in the next 3-4 years, I think I need this, no brainer imo, even for a drop in pay.

I have to drive into the city tomorrow. Anyone know if they are still following commercial parking rules?
I would have to imagine they are suspended but who knows so check before you go.  If its not a crazy long trip just double park?

I can see alternate side is suspended but i cant find anything on commercial.  Id assume its still in place.  I would guess you could find parking with people not driving in.

Looks like meter rules still apply so no parking in commercial spots.

Thanks!

This is true but one silver lining to all this is I have seen zero parking tickets written up. I did not see a single meter maid in weeks.

I can't even imagine all the lost revenue in taxes, tickets, etc that the city is facing right now.
