News from Bill Cowher's press conference (1 Viewer)

Bill Cowher didn't reveal a whole lot of information in today's news conference but he did list the injury report:

Questionable: S Ricardo Colclough (neck), RB Najeh Davenport (calf)

Probable: S Troy Polamalu (shoulder)

Davenport tweaked his calf in practice but Cowher didn't seem all that concerned about it. He called it dat-to-day and said that Davenport is now familiar enough with the system to get some playing time. When asked what role Davenport would play, specifically if it would be as a short yardage back, Cowher just said that he would fill the role of a running back. Cowher also said that Duce Staley has looked better in recent practices and that he expects to use all of his running backs at some point in the season.

Cowher was also asked if Willie Parker was being used too much and Cowher said no, especially considering the extra time between Game 1 & Game 2 (10 days) and Game 3 & Game 4 (13 days). He said there is no set maximum number of carries for Parker.

As for Colclough, apparently he is being examined today for a neck injury. This is the first I had heard about the injury and so I am a little suspicous to hear it suddenly bothering him, more than a week after the game. It looks to me like this might be an injury of convenience. I am just sayin'

Cowher would not elaborate on what changes were being made on the return team and did not say whether or not #3 pick WR Willie Reid would be active Sunday and if he would be returning punts. One thing is for certain, it won't be Colclough.

Cowher said that Troy Polamalu's shoulder is much better and he would start against San Diego. Other than that, not much else to report...

speaking of colclough and punts, where the hell has willie reid been?!? why'd they waste a 3rd round pick for a guy they aren't even dressing and was supposed to be the return specialist?

Good question. Apparently they don't want to have 6 WRs active and they consider Sean Morey to be more important to their special teams than Reid. The Steelers coaching staff knows a lot more about football than I could ever hope to know but I think they are wrong in this case...

FWIW, I agree with you.

I concur.Does Colclough even play on the Dime at this point?? The Nickle is Ike, Townsend, and McFadden. The dime has those three plus Tyrone Carter or Anthony Smith, correct?? No 4th CB, Steelers have been using an extra safety. How many tackles on ST has Colclough made of kickoffs and punts?? Reid and Holmes should be returning all kicks.

I was excited when we drafted Reid as the Randal El replacement and to not use him at all is a problem.

Yes, Colclough sometimes comes in on the dime. I am betting he gets this week off though due to his "injury".

Steelers :: RB

RB Parker's Load Likely Heavy Again

Scott Brown, Pittsburgh Tribune Review - [Full Article]

Starting RB Willie Parker has carried the football 29 and 31 times in two of the first three games. His workload could be heavy again Sunday. RB Najeh Davenport has a strained calf and has yet to play. If he is unable to suit up against the Chargers, RB Duce Staley likely would take his spot. Staley has yet to dress for a game this season. HC Bill Cowher said he is not concerned with the high number of carries for Parker as much he is with the punishment he actually absorbs in a game. There is not always a correlation between the two.

Colclough must have hurt his neck misjudging all those punts and getting whiplash as they sailed over his head. :hot:
 Cowher was choking him after the game... :yucky:
This is what I was thinking also. It definitely smells like an injury of convenience.
:yes:He was a terrible kickoff return guy, what made the coaching staff think he would do any better at punts ? I know it is a different animal returning punts and kickoffs, but he doesn't punch it up in there like he should, too much dancing around and east-west crap. :iMISSuARE:

Bill Cowher said today in his Thursday update that CB Ricardo Colclough is definitely OUT for this Sunday's game against the Chargers and is likely to miss a few more games with a nerve issue. Cowher said that Colclough will undergo more tests and once those are known they may need to make a roster move.

Apparently they may bring in some FA corners for workouts (too bad the Pats just signed Chidi Iwouma today).

In any case, the injury to Colclough means that rookie WR Willie Reid will be activated and return punts this Sunday.

If I fumbled a punt that essentially cost the team a game against division rivals I would have some nerve issues as well. :banned: here's to Willie Reid!

His or Cowher's?

:lmao:

I hope Reid is active. But won't that leave the Steelers short in their Nickel and Dime packages without Coke?
Reported about an hour ago or two on local news that Reid will be active and returning punts this weekend. Colclough is not in on the Nickel usually (Deshea, Ike, McFadden) and I believe the Steelers mostly bring in an extra safety for the Dime. Colclough was being discussed as a possible cut this pre-season

By the way, Davenport practiced today and so it looks like he'll be active. Whether or not he actually plays is another matter but he's been with the club for almost a month so I am guessing he does see some at least some action.

Yep. Funny how that happened all of a sudden. Injury settlement looming.
