This is the sort of topic that's basically impossible to talk about in non-political terms. I guess it's technically possible for adults to talk about whether the story as reported holds up, what the geopolitical implications would be if it were true, and so on. But all it takes is one tool who misinterprets a post as either (a) giving credit to Biden for something or (b) criticizing Biden for something and then we're off to the races.

I thought that was interesting if true. Was the thought to hold it over Russia's head as the war escalated? Next level if so but I don't have that confidence in our government to pull something like that off.

I am unaware of Seymour Hersch, thought he was a character on “West Wing“ TBH.

As I read the opening of his article I was struck that it was written as fact and read like a screenplay. I’ll be honest I didn’t finish.

This is a very interesting topic. Maybe a Tom Clancy sub-forum is needed as this and the balloon thread seem popular.

And, to answer the OP‘s opening question I do not think it is the start of WW3 if it were true.
