I've always liked these 'who is next year's Player X' talking points..Don't know what it means. why can't we just say 'who is going to be a breakout TE in 2007 , like Winslow II was this year?!?!'
isn't next years Kellen Winslow actually , well, Kellen Winslow?! and next year's Winslow has to suffere thru some stupid bike accident that blows his knee out and the guy sits for all of 2007..I'm not sure we want a Kellen winslow next year...
Mcnabb is this years Mcnabb, right? I mean, the dude couldn't finish the season, again..
I wonder if Robert Smith was called the 'Barry Sanders' of the season he retired, or will next year's 30-something RB to retire in his prime , be called `2007's Tiki Barber`.couldn't this years Leftwhich be called `this years Brad Johnson in his early years`, i.e, an oft-injured QB that has a lot of talents, staying healthy NOT being one of them?
Next year, will we be calling an aging QB who is replaced in midseason by a young upstart, 'this years Drew Bledsoe'?

I can honestly say, this years Eli Manning is definitely NOT Eli Manning, in fact, Eli Manning is this year's

Alex Smith appears to be this year's Eli Manning, a guy who in his second season as a starter, seems to have improved, Like Eli did last season. So, if Smith regresses next year, will he be 2007's Eli Manning?!?! if so, where does that leave 2007's Eli Manning?!?!..we can't have two` 2007 Eli Mannings` can we?!?! I think that would be unprecendented, actually..
wonder if there is some sort of a master list of 'Next year's version of this year's stud or dud, is......'
I'd be willing to bet that if a list DOES exist, somehow it is going to be tied to Kevin Bacon, one way or another..
Vernon Davis has the best chance, IMO, to have a breakout year at the TE position, in 2007. This is largely due to the fact that he is coached by offensive coordinator Norv Turner..Turner has made a pro bowl player out of Gore in just his first year as SF's offensive coordinator, and has really helped Alex Smith improve as a QB..Next year, when/if
Davis comes back, he could see a 45-50 catch season..not bad,considering he missed nearly all of his rookie season..Turner has a long history of producing Pro Bowl RB's and to a lesser extend, very productive TE's..Davis could be the next great TE...
but if he's next year's `Winslow`, he'll be on IR in April and out till 2008.

Marcedes Lewis will be a breakout TE next year. Unlike Vernon Davis, Marcedes already has that all-important ability to catch the football down.
