Great idea. Another supplement to this could be adding a page to the forums that operates as a hall of trophies of sorts, where we can see a centralized record of all previous champs (and silver and bronze trophy winners).

How are Travis Hunter's potential interception TDs going to be scored in these leagues? I dont see individual Interception TDs called out in the rules which probably means they wont score points, but wanted to make sure.

If we settle into 3 Shark Pool Home Leagues….maybe the first year of implementing this idea is we have the Top 4 finishers in each league go into League Uno next year, The next 4 finishers go into League Two, and to the bottom 4 finishers into League Three.
And THEN the following years we do a more traditional “top 3 up and bottom 3 down” promotion/relegation.

Am I talking about this idea too much?

I think the only problem with the idea is we really don't know how many people will stick around after the first year.

I admit, I am a little surprised that it has taken this long and league 3 still isn't full yet. I have considered the possibility that there are only 33 total members in the SP.

If we get a tepid return rate next season relegation/promotion probably won't be as much fun compared to having a stable group of guys over years.

This is cool but jokes aside, we would need to determine a better way to rank the leagues than whichever one was established first. Maybe relative strength of all the playoff teams this year or something like that.

Unless specified in the lobby or in the thread, that would be the case. Since all the Shark Pool members are coming from here and it's more structured and less random, we set a distinct draft date for you all. Let's you see a week of preseason games before drafting, and is closer to the season. Shark Pool 1 would've been drafting over a week ago and #3 wasn't even born yet

Nah, everyone had the chance to join the earlier leagues and passed... Last year especially that was true. League Uno broke ground and it's fair to treat it as the top league in my (biased) opinion.

Yeah, that was my point. To try to be “fair”.

But we can just say “screw it” and League Uno remains League Uno forever and the rest of you will always be the ones who caught on later. Fine with me.

If I'm a stable player in a good league with lots of banter and chat, and if I happen to have a bad luck season where my 1.01 pick goes down for the year, the thought of being relegated to another league really stinks.

Nothing’s changing. Everything’s staying as is. Enjoy your league Uno, 2 and 3. Bask in the joy of competing against some board members you’ve been talking fantasy football with for decades, in some cases. Come to this thread to have a fun trash talk session. I imagine some of us will talk draft strategy and results once the drafts are over to compare notes. Just playing in a league with other SharkPoolers increased the enjoyment by a factor of 10 for me.

Love these SharkPool home leagues and the fact that we have one mega thread for them, where 36 of us “board regulars”, plus a handful of interested on-lookers, can interact with a little bit of cash on the line, makes it even better.

Can’t wait til the drafts start up.

I would pay that price in exchange for a neat system like this. It works awesome on the reddit for FF and is years long. Think it would be pretty sweet, and imagine it would grow and we'd find people to backfill somewhat easier year over year as it became more known.

@fbghomeleagues , I'd ask you to strongly consider firing up one more of these.

I'm suggesting this from the standpoint of someone who's been around from the very beginning.

With the advent of August and the HoF game tonight, there are an absolute boatload of dormant Forum Members/Subscribers who are season-long/redraft only guys who are about to come out of hibernation and start populating the Forum. I'm not a tech guy, but guessing there are tech analytics that can back this anecdotal assertion of mine up.

The idea of these Leagues is great, and nothing but good can come of them, especially in terms of enhancing and possibly growing the community.

Just my 2 cents.

Eagles vs Cowboys would be fantastic!

Guarantee you fill the League quickly, as obviously you'd be quick to point out that the other Teams' fans are weak-sauce pantywaists if they're not man enough to put something on the line to establish who's the real Alpha.

If I'm a stable player in a good league with lots of banter and chat, and if I happen to have a bad luck season where my 1.01 pick goes down for the year, the thought of being relegated to another league really stinks.

This is my stance. Give me 11 active, competitive owners and I'm happy. Don't really care about League 1 vs League 2 and all that stuff. Not against it but getting relegated into a league with inactive owners would likely make me rethink where this falls on my league priority list.

My suggestion is we set up the leagues in order of establishment this first year.

After this year, the bottom 3 teams from each league (according to the Sleeper toilet bowl playoffs) move down a league and the top 3 from each league (again, according to Sleeper playoffs) move up.

This is how world 'football' has operated their professional leagues for decades, and for good reason. It's a pretty rad system that keeps everyone on their toes, including and especially, the bottom feeders from start to finish!

how do these options synch with the possibility that some league participants might not be on board with trashing the team composition of their league and would actually prefer to have a stable league in terms of teams participating? wouldn't it be simpler....if the objective is for all the "winners" to be able to go head to head....to have a separate league setup for that purpose? call it the championship league or whatever....in that way league composition is stable and based on individual choice rather that constantly changing.

I mentioned above that I think we should wait on any decision about relegation/advancement, an idea I find very interesting personally, until we see how stable these leagues turn out to be. We have 11 managers returning in League Uno, which is awesome but if there is 50% attrition with the other two leagues year over year I don't think we should consider any of the tweaks we are suggesting as I think they will increase attrition.

If the leagues stabilize with 75% + return rate, and this thread proves to be a hit, like the League Uno thread was last year, the I think all options should be on the table.

We can also use stability as part of the advancement/relegation system. So players who are consistent and keep the leagues stable year to year get to play with the same people who are also stable. That's how relationships form.

This is another good point which is why I think it is important to see what these JV leagues turn into. If they are active with with owners not quitting mid season and low turnover then we can discuss mega leagues and what-not. Until then, it's way too early.

Agreed 100%. A league of 12 Shark Poolers who give it their best is all I am asking for. I don't care if I win every year. I just want the other 11 losers to try their best.

I think the idea is to create incentives to keep people engaged and active the entire season.

There could be different formats and approaches to that end, but one idea I could see working well would be three or four regulation/promotion leagues max. You move up or down by finishing in the top or bottom three of each league. Those who finish bottom three in the bottom league wash out to make room for new players who are on a waiting list to enter the system.

This would create a bunch of excitement IMO due to the exclusivity and the prestige of being in and hopefully succeeding against other Sharkpoolers.

You could still create other Sharkpool home leagues seperate from this format, but this would be a cool way to heighten the stakes without additonal monetary commitment.

Great points. I also agree. I think my primary end game goal would be to have a league with 12 active owners.. My problem though, and I'm working to get help on it, is sometimes I define good owners differently than others. I'm a chatty guy. Always have been. I like chatty owners. Smack talk. Playful. Just makes it fun. I also like trading my entire roster in 3 trades. So in my mind a good owner talks smack and makes moves. I'm trying to accept that you can be a good owner and do neither of those. I prefer them to be in other leagues. Ha ha

I think the incentive to stay active is built in, when you are facing off against other Shark Poolers. But a simple must should be, anyone who throws in the towel will never ever be invited back. Quitters destroy leagues by giving free wins later on in the season. Quitters suck so bad.

Last 2 years, I have come in 1st and 3rd in my local league. Fun league, and I haven't had a single player I drafted at the end. Trading is a blast!
