I was watching this show last night on NFL Network last night. For those that missed it, Rich Eisen and Butch Davis hosted an around the NFL preseason show where they flip between all the preseason games showing highlights. Overall, a pretty cool concept. Except that Dutch Davis was awful. :X

Not only did he have Riggo disease (for those that listened to Sirius last year) but every damn time they switched to a new team he praised the crap out of them. Every player was a "super star" and every head coach was a "genius" and every team had "the best fans".

I can understand the NFL Network not wanting to diss any teams but come on. That is the kind of hyperbolae we expect from call-in homers and not professional broadcasteres. Frankly it just pissed me off and I muted the sound for the next hour.

It's preseason football. I'm not going to get too worked up. It was fun to watch, they jumped around, showed all the major highlights, didn't have to watch much 5th string players, and it was a nice football fix.Davis is an idiot, but after 8 months without football I barely noticed.

I'm high on the concept but I didn't think they did a good job of game coverage.

Arguably the most exciting game of the night, Miami-Jacksonville, got pretty much no coverage. I understand the Reggie Bush-Vince Young lovefest but still, it would've been nice to get some balanced coverage.

Rich Eisen really gets on my nerves. I watched this last night and loved it. Where else are you going to get pre season coverage like that. Eisen just bugs me though. I cant put my finger on what it is. Maybe its his delivery. I also get the idea that he is always looking to be funny instead of just reporting football and letting it happen.

Anyway I will keep watching it because it is awesome to get all those look ins.NFL network is genious.

Eisen is cool, very few could do his job.

Butch is great with his X's and O's show. The NFL Network has 2 former head coaches how many does ESPN have?

This has/had so much potential. I liked it when they had Paul Breminister and Shape in there last season. Last night though, it was tough. First of all Butch Davis is a tool. The man coaches Portis in college, and then when he goes to Cleveland, he passes on Portis and takes Willie Green? Nice..And then he goes on to get fired from Cleveland. He has no cred with me. Eisen, as pointed out, was half trying to be the funny man and the other time being the straight guy? And failing at both. Useless.

But the most annoying thing last night was the replays. Every ten minutes we would get an update on what Ben Rosey did early that day. And then they would cover his press conference. And then we would see Joey Harrington's TD pass. And then we would see Reggie Bush's first three touches. And then a little live action for five minutes. And then we would see how Ben Rosey did early that day. And then they would cover his press conference. And then we would see Joey Harrington's TD pass....Rinse and repeat for six freakin hours!!

Thank god for TIVO. I just jumped through the seven minutes of highlights and commericals for every ten minutes fir three minutes of live action...

Ironically, the best rendition of this format - which is basically the real-time reporting of all games playing - that I've come across to date has been on the radio and not on TV. Sporting News Radio has a show on on Sundays during the season where they have correspondents at each stadium who they go out to either for periodic reports or when something significant happens; in the studio they then discuss the action or occasionally interview a guest, but the focus of the show is clearly on keeping the listeners up to date on scoring changes and game developments, with nice reports on what significant players are doing statistically so far during games.

It's ideal when a "honey-do" pops up during a game that forces a car trip to the store or something.

Agreed! :goodposting: I'm wondering if that show will still be on WTEM this year. btw-Around here, when the Skins are playing, there are no "honey-do's.

Agreed. I of course meant aside from that. There is only divorce, and I'm far too wonderful for her to even contemplate that, so it's a non-issue. Women come and go, but the Redskins are forever! :football: ;)

EDIT- "Yes, dear, I will delete this post immediately." :kicksrock:

I kind of agree, but I'm not going to complain. This was MUCH, MUCH better than past years'.

I agree - Butch Davis SUCKS in the No Huddle. And his inability to remember players' names - he was trying to talk about Reggie Williams of the Jaguars and kept calling him Troy Williamson - inexcusable. That said, Butch is AWESOME at analysing defenses during the regular season (or at least he was last year - he seems to have develoiped Alzheimers and "can't talk fluently" disease this year).

True, if he doesn't watch out, he'll be doing Progressive commericals.

You are in the EXTREME minority round here.He is generally acknowledged on the boards (and among the FBG staff, almost to a man) as the single best NFL football announcer on TV. He is personable, insightful, intelligent, AND funny/entertainingThe players he interviews absolutely LOVE him, he gets the BEST interviews due to NFL Network's pull, and he is the only guy on TV with access to the refs - also due to NFL Networks' pull. No other station is allowed to interview the refs, Eisen interviews the head of officiating every week.

I don't think they stayed with the games enough. Full highlights of completed games over and over and over again made it too damn repetitive.

This is the point I was going to bring up. No wonder that he sucked as an NFL coach.

Jerry Rice can't hold Butch Davis' jock when it comes to being a sports analyst.

Sad, but true.

Helen Keller thinks they both suck.

Maybe it's all the 'umms' and 'uhhhs' and 'errrs' that he does. He's incapable of following a clip or live actiona nd actually expressing it in words. Plus he's a smarmy bastardf who always hints around at off-field issues in interviews that clunk up the whole process. He's one of the worst sports broadcasters around, he's balding like a chump and has the worst interviews in the biz. He's a wannabe Kilborn, only he's absolutely no good at it. If I ever saw him I'd probably just sock him in the jaw to have 6-8 weeks of NFL Network with no Eisen.

My biggest beef is that the show seemed to be designed for people watching it in 20 minute windows. I was there for the duration, as I'm sure many of the viewers were.

They seemed to stick with two games throughout. I understand the big name rookies in the NO @ TEN game, but they seemed to show it almost exclusively. I was most excited to see how Williams did at RB for CAR, but only saw the one highlight.

Still, better than being stuck with one local game.
