NFL brothers: This blew my mind! (1 Viewer)

Maybe this is old news to some of you, but I just heard about this the other day and was initially convinced someone was playing a joke on me:

  • Leonard Fournette has a brother named Lanard
  • Calvin Ridley has a brother named Cavin (but he now goes by Riley to avoid confusion)
  • Saquon Barkley has a brother named Zaquon
  • Malcom Floyd has a brother named Malcolm
And from other sports ...

  • Lance Stevenson has a brother named Lantz
  • Glenn Robinson III has a brother named Gelen (pronounced "JEE-len")
  • George Foreman has sons named George Jr, George III, George IV and George V
(OK, fine, I made up one of these to see if you were paying attention. But the rest are all true.)

Barkley is the son of Alibay Barkley and Tonya Johnson. He has two brothers, Rashard Johnson and Ali Barkley, and two sisters, Shaquona and Aliyah Barkley. His great uncle is former WBC middleweight champion Iran Barkley.

Which reminds me, anyone remember You Make the Call? They should bring those back.

 
Foreman's daughters are named Georgina.  He has a lot of kids and IIRC, they are all named either George or Georgina.

Ah, if I had known that I would have said "Saquon has a sister named Shaquona". But I guess that's not nearly as surprising (on par with Shaquille and Shaquem Griffin).

BTW, I've heard rumors that Ali Barkley might end up being Serena to his brother's Venus.

And yes, bring back YMTC. Except I'd like to see it run by Chase Stuart, Brian Burke or one of the other data nerds focusing on coaches' decisions: "If you said kick the FG here, you used a bad process that is by no means vindicated by a single positive result."  :lmao:

Funny but he's actually one of the fighters who has seemed to remain very mentally stable. He actually has become a nicer and more caring person since his career started and when I've seen him interviewed and read his tweets, he seems fine. Evander Holyfield on the other hand...

I think Brian and Byron are different enough to not qualify for this thread.  The parents definitely made a suboptimal choice, but I'll let it slide.

Brothers Tremaine, Terrell and Trey Edmunds. Sons of Ferrell, a former Pro Bowl tight end who played in Miami and Seattle.

 
I was curious, so I looked it up and I was wrong about Foreman's daughter's names.  He has one named Georgetta but otherwise his other 6 daughters have different names.  I had heard a long time ago (I forget where) that all 12 of his kids were George or Georgina but that was wrong.

My mother is an identical twin, and apparently my grandparents changed the initial name they had planned for my aunt because they realized the two names together might sound like a single name (think something like "Anne" and "Marie") and make people think it was just one girl.

You're absolutely right. I don't believe you. It's a well-known urban legend. So have you yourself met "Ledasha", or did you just hear about her existence?

Then again, my father insists up and down that when he was substitute teaching in Detroit in the '60s, he taught a kid named Orangejello (Oh-RAN-jeh-lo). He always tells the story in the first person, not just as something he heard about. He even imitates the kid's high-pitched voice. My dad is generally not the type to tell tall tales, so I have wondered about it, but I still don't believe him. I think it's one of those cases where a person tells a funny story so many times that it changes over time without them even realizing it (Malcolm Gladwell's "Revisionist History" podcast on Brian Williams explains this phenomenon, and why it's wrong to conclude the person with the false memory is consciously lying.)

Memory is a funny thing. A few years ago I shot a video of oldest on the Ripcord thingy at Michigan Adventure. I like to show it on my device from time to time, especially if my youngest is around (they’re 10 years apart & he’s her biggest hero.) And tonight I was telling our dinner guests it was 300’ high & they were going 90 mph at the bottom. Nobody corrected me, I thought I was posting it straight.

Later, after everyone left or went to bed, I decided to confirm that info. It was 185’ & 70 mph. It ain’t no fun being middle ages & realizing your memory ain’t what it used to be.

Back on topic (sort of) - there were four Browner brothers that played in the NFL. Is that the record? 

I was always impressed that RB Mel Farr not only played in the league the same time as his brother Miller but also had two sons who made it.

Wonder what the record is for most NFL players on the same direct line family tree?
