NFL Coaching & Front Office Changes for the 2015 season (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the 49ers, Falcons, and Bears will interview Broncos OC Adam Gase for their head-coaching vacancies this weekend.

With the Broncos earning a first-round bye, Gase can knock out his first round of interviews this weekend without interrupting Denver's playoff planning. Gase will likely interview for most all of the head-coaching openings. The 36-year-old has no previous experience as a head coach. That he's willing to do interviews before the Broncos' playoff run is complete -- something Gase wouldn't do last year -- is a sign he may be ready to take the next step in his coaching career.

Bleacher Report's Dan Pompei reports the Bears are interested in Ravens OC Gary Kubiak for their head-coaching vacancy.

Chicago is also interested in Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta for their general-manager opening. That'll be the tougher one to pull off, but a Kubiak-DeCosta duo would be a good get for the Bears. Kubiak appears to have successfully rehabbed his value after just one year as Ravens' offensive play-caller. He was fired as the Texans' head coach last December. Joe Flacco set new career-highs in passing yards and touchdowns under Kubiak this season.

Jim Haslett - DL - Free Agent

Redskins fired DC Jim Haslett.

It was announced as a "mutual decision to part ways," but we all know the Redskins canned Haslett. It's been a long time coming, too. How Haslett managed to stay on staff for five seasons, while trotting out beyond-horrible defenses is anybody's guess. We were starting to thinking he had naughty pictures of owner Dan Snyder or GM Bruce Allen. Anyway, he's finally gone. The Redskins' finishes in total yards under Haslett: 31st, 13th, 28th, 18th, and 20th. That actually paints a rosier picture than the units played on the field.

Greg Roman - C - 49ers

The Florida Times Union pinpoints in-limbo 49ers OC Greg Roman as a "name to watch" for the Jaguars' offensive-coordinator vacancy.

Roman is also expected to be on the Bucs' OC radar. The 42-year-old received plenty of head-coaching interest the previous two offseasons, and was even a candidate for the Jacksonville job that eventually went to Gus Bradley, but he's not believed to be on the radars of any of the teams looking for a head coach at the moment. Ex-Bears coach Marc Trestman is also an option for the Jaguars.

Bears looking at kubiak. Good for Forte and Bennett, forget TDs for Marshall and Jeffery inside the 20.

Rotoworld:

Bill Polian - C - Free Agent

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports former Colts GM Bill Polian is expected to take over as Bills team president.

Polian would serve in a football czar role with Buffalo. Due to his commitments with ESPN, the move could be delayed until next month. If true, it leaves current team president Russ Brandon and GM Doug Whaley's roles up in the air. Polian has been out of the NFL since 2011 when he was fired by the Colts.

Frank Reich - C - Chargers

The Bills are expected to have "strong interest" in Chargers OC Frank Reich as Doug Marrone's head-coaching replacement.

It sounds like Marrone is going to the Jets, who already fulfilled the Rooney Rule by interviewing RBs coach Anthony Lynn for their vacancy. They can hire Marrone as soon as they please. Reich replaced Ken Whisenhunt as the Chargers' offensive coordinator in 2014. He is a former quarterback for the Bills.

Mike Maccagnan - G - Texans

NFL Network's Mike Silver considers Texans director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan the "frontrunner" for the Jets' GM vacancy.

Maccagnan is a favorite of Charley Casserly, who is a primary consultant in the Jets' general manager search. Maccagnan spent six years as a scout under Casserly in Washington, and followed him to the Texans in 2000. Our guess is Maccagnan will be the Jets' new GM and Doug Marrone will be their new coach.

Kubiak is a good coach.

five of his eight NFL seasons as HC in Hou, the Texans finsihed .500 or better..in seven of his eight seasons in Hou, the texans finished 14th or better in total yards on offense, four of those in the top ten, and his offenses were 17th or better in total pts six times.the dude can flat out coach..look at what he did with Matt Friggin Schaub..

in Balt. he finished 12 in yards, 8th in total pts..

He doesn't have the balls to make the calls needed to win a championship. He's like a poor man's Schottenheimer.

The Bears will interview Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard for their general-manager vacancy.

Ballard was a coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville for seven season before joining the Bears' scouting staff in 2001. He was promoted to director of pro personnel in 2012 and held the title for one season before going to Kansas City to become GM John Dorsey's right-hand man. The Jets are also interested in Ballard.

The Buffalo News' Tim Graham reports the Bills consider DC Jim Schwartz a candidate for their head-coaching vacancy.

Last month, NFL Network's Albert Breer mentioned Schwartz as one of the top "retreads" to possibly get another shot as a head coach. But to this point, he's drawn no known interest to outside clubs. The Bills will cast a wide net for their next head coach, but may not have to look far. Schwartz's Bills led the league with 54 sacks and finished fourth in total defense. Schwartz pulled the Lions out of the dumpster in 2009 following an 0-16 season and got them back to respectability before he was fired last winter, but let his team get away from him at times.

The Bills have requested to interview Chargers OC Frank Reich for their head-coaching vacancy.

Reich, 53, is from New York and spent the first 10 seasons of his playing career as a member of the Bills. He wasn't a star, producing a 40:36 career TD:INT ratio, but was the backup to Hall of Famer Jim Kelly. Reich has been coaching since 2008, but has no previous head-coaching experience at the NCAA or NFL levels. He just wrapped up his first season as the Bolts' offensive coordinator.

As a ravens fan I hope other teams share this viewpoint. Kubiak is a great OC and has been a terrific head coach. lod01 pretends running it with productive RBs rather than thowing with Matt Schaub (Matt Schaub!) in the endzone is cowardice.

Doug Marrone - OT - Free Agent

The Jets are interviewing former Bills head coach Doug Marrone on Saturday.

Marrone was almost immediately linked with the Jets after opting out of his contract with Buffalo on Wednesday evening. A Bronx native, Marrone coached the Jets' offensive line from 2002-05 under Herm Edwards. Marrone with 15-17 in two seasons as the head coach of the Bills.

Jets Offense - TM - Jets

The Jets have requested permission to interview Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard and Dolphins director of college scouting Chris Grier for their open general manager position.

Ballard has already been linked with the Chicago Bears, where he was a scout from 2001-2011. Grier is the son of longtime personnel man Bobby Grier, who worked with Jets consultant Charley Casserly in Houston.

Jack Del Rio - DL - Broncos

The Raiders have requested permission to interview Broncos DC Jack Del Rio.

With the Broncos returning to work on Sunday, the Raiders will try to get the interview in on Saturday. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday Del Rio would draw "significant interest" from the Raiders, and ESPN Raiders reporter Bill Williamson believes Del Rio is the "favorite" for the Oakland job. Del Rio has overseen a dominant defense the last three seasons in Denver, but had a rough go in eight and a half years as the Jaguars head coach prior to joining the Broncos.

lod01 had Andre Johnson. lod01 currently has Justin Tucker and loves Kubiak's cowardice. He definitely needs to stay where he's at and (the Ravens) draft a great RB to get my kicker in FG range.

Mike Shanahan - OT - Free Agent

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bills are setting up an interview with former Redskins coach Mike Shanahan for their open head coach position.

Buffalo is moving very quickly to fill their head coaching vacancy after Doug Marrone opted out of his contract on Wednesday. The team has already interviewed or scheduled interviews with Broncos OC Adam Gase, Seahawks DC Dan Quinn, Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell and Chargers OC Frank Reich. Mike Shanahan will be added to that list, and there are reports the Bills are interested in talking to Colts OC Pep Hamilton as well. With a playoff-caliber roster outside of the quarterback position, the Bills should be an enticing option.

Gary Kubiak - OT - Ravens

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport expects Ravens OC Gary Kubiak to draw interest from the Jets and 49ers for each team's open head coach position.

Kubiak is not able to interview for any positions until the Ravens are eliminated from the playoffs. Kubiak has dramatically improved the Ravens' offense in his first year as offensive coordinator, coaxing a career year out of Joe Flacco and leading an offense that scored the eighth most points in the league. Kubiak owned a 61-64 record with two playoff appearances as the Texans' head coach from 2006-13.

Profootballtalk reports Eagles assistant director of player personnel Ed Maryonwitz has emerged as a "serious candidate" to replace Tom Gamble.

Maryonwitz has previously worked under Bill Parcells in Miami and was Nick Saban's director of recruiting at Alabama from 2008-2011. He's an in-house candidate to take over for Gamble. Maryonwitz would likely have limited say over the roster if hired. Chip Kelly has full control over personnel decisions.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Falcons will interview ex-Bills coach Doug Marrone for their head-coaching vacancy on Monday.

The Jets will interview Chargers OC Frank Reich and Cardinals DC Todd Bowles for their head coaching vacancy this week.

Reich, who will interview on Wednesday, has already met with the Bills -- where he mostly backed up Jim Kelly in his playing days. Bowles is just starting interviews this week and is expected to draw heavy interest after his Cardinals were eliminated from the playoffs Saturday. The Jets have already interviewed Doug Marrone (the "perceived" front-runner per the Daily News), Dan Quinn, Tom Cable and Anthony Lynn. They want to talk to Ravens OC Gary Kubiak once Baltimore's playoff run is over. It's an underwhelming cast of characters.

Sources tell NBC4 that Mike Shanahan interviewed for the Raiders head coaching vacancy.
Shanahan has also garnered interest from the Bills and 49ers. The Oakland interview with Mark Davis and other team officials is a bit of a surprise as Shanny's first go-around with the organization was a short-lived disaster. He clashed with Al Davis and was fired just four games into his second season as coach (1989). Time has obviously healed wounds. The Raiders have also been linked to Tony Sparano, Jack Del Rio, Pat Shurmur, Eric Mangini, Todd Bowles, Pep Hamilton, Scott Linehan and Darrell Bevell.

What is this fascination with Doug Marrone from these teams? He's an offensive guy that had a horrible offense for the past two seasons and just up and quit on his team to leave. Yeah, give me THAT guy please.

The Raiders interviewed Colts OC Pep Hamilton for their head-coaching vacancy on Sunday night.
The interview took place mere hours after Indianapolis' Wild Card Round win over Cincinnati. Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie was present for this interview after allegedly not accompanying owner Mark Davis to interview Broncos DC Jack Del Rio. Interviewing Hamilton satisfied the Rooney Rule for the Raiders, so Oakland is free to hire a head coach immediately.

Owner Mark Davis interviewed Broncos DC Jack Del Rio for the Raiders' head-coaching vacancy over the weekend.
Perhaps most notably, current Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie is believed to have not accompanied Davis on the trip. It may be an indication that Davis willing to hand over football operations in addition to head-coaching duties if Oakland can land Del Rio. McKenzie has an 11-37 record in three years as Raiders GM.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora passes along a "strong sense" at Redskins headquarters that Wade Phillips is "well positioned" to replace Jim Haslett as defensive coordinator.
Per La Canfora, Phillips has "ample support." The root of that support is likely from Redskins senior executive A.J. Smith, who is gaining power in the Skins' front office and has worked with Phillips extensively in the past. Smith was infamously nicknamed the "Lord of No Rings" during his stint as the Chargers' GM. Either way, Phillips would be an excellent hire for the Redskins.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will interview with the Jets on Wednesday.
Bowles will be the fifth candidate to interview to replace Rex Ryan. Bowles runs a 3-4 defense, but experimented with 4-3 late in the season. Ryan also used hybrid fronts, so there are pieces in place for a smooth transition.

how does this even happen? I thought that you can't interview if your team is in the playoffs, unless you are on a bye?
