NFL Draft Talk (1 Viewer)

I'm a draft junkie...and i'm not getting enough of my fix....haha.

Rodger Saffold has really shot up the boards lately. He isn't a great athlete, but is productive, and a better run blocker than pass blocker.

He is one guy that I'm not sure most are aware of currently. I am a subsriber to espn insider....they gave him a high grade just behind Charles Brown, but ahead of Bruce Campbell.

What's the latest with yall?

Here's a link I always look for every year, Pete Dougherty's talke with an anonymous NFL scout. Gives opinions on a lot of players.

Regarding Saffold:

6. RODGER SAFFOLD Indiana 6-4½ 313 5.22 1-2

Under the radar at a forlorn program but made a name for himself at the East-West Game. "This is another late-blooming daisy," one scout said. "Nobody heard about him until the East-West. I don't like him. He's a little knock-kneed. I think he's soft." Four-year starter at LT. "He's a solid, tough, technically sound player," Tennessee scout Johnny Meads said. "He had a great battle against O'Brien Schofield." Has a habit of tiring late in games and is a medical risk (back) for at least one team. "I'm not high on Indiana players," another scout said. "They never have had any. Great kid and all that, but I don't think he's that great a player. He's a better athlete than he is a player."

Hmmm interesting.....appreciate that tidbit. I would think Detroit or Buffalo would make sense for him in the second...as they both need a RT.

I was also thinking today about the NY Giants.

Perhaps the best young trio of WR's in the game Manningham, Smith, Nicks.

Boss and Travis Beckam are solid enough.

Eli quietly had his best year last year.

The OL needs some work as well as some of the defense(LB especially).

But what if they took a RB high. Jacobs is a short yardage guy(to keep him productive, they should do this) and who knows with Bradshaw. Also, Danny Ware hasn't been great since his freshman year at UGA....so leave that Ryan Grant pipedream where it should be.

Think if the Giants added a Spiller/Mathews/Best/Dwyer to that offense. I'm having trouble figuring which one, scheme wise/based on talent they already have, would be the best fit.

But again, just a thought about a RB situation that aren't talking about. It normally happens....draft day some team takes a RB high that most wouldn't think would draft one highly.

Actually, the Giants are supposed to be in love with Spiller. I would still think they go D, but stranger things have happened.

I'm reading a bunch of studies regarding concussions....I figured someone like jahvid Best's value would be affect by the results I found. Now I do like Best as a player....but obviously concussions are a serious risk factor that many people don't know much about b/c the field and lack of studies.

Contact Sports athletes with a prior history of concussions are 3 times more likely to sustain subsequent concussions compared to players with no prior history of concussions.

The risk of sustaining a concussion in football was 5.8 times greater if the athlete had already sustained a concussion.

HS football players with prior history of sports concussions are 9.3 times more at risk of showing signs in three out of the four concussion severity markers(loss of consciousness, anterograde anmesia, retrograde amnesia and confusion) than athletes with no prior history of concussion.

Athletes with a history of more than 3 concussions recover significantly slower from the adverse effects of concussions than athletes who had sustained only one concussion at the time of testing.

Athletes with a history of multiple concussions scored significantly lower on memory tests than those who had sustained only one concussion.

Multi-concussed athletes were 7.7 times more likely to show a drop in memory performance in the acute phase immediately following the injury than other concussed athletes with no prior history of concussion.

I like his skill set but will not be drafting him mainly because of this. So young to have multiple concussions, and a major one at that. I absolutely think this could effect longevity.

Another interesting concept I think NFL Draft fans should keep in mind.

I met and had some discussions with an NFL Scout last year....nice guy too.

But he indicated that drafting a CB to start in the NFL past the 2nd round isn't worth it. The athletic ability CB's need to have, along with reaction skills is difficult to match outside of the first 2 rounds.

It's obvious that the Scout isn't employed by the Steelers. Wish he was.

A couple things I think:

1-Bill Parcels and the Dolphins fully expect to take Dez Bryant in the 1st round. This will give them an elite WR corps after one offseason.

2-The Broncos will take Pouncey at 11 if they can't find a trade-down partner.

This has really got me thinking....I would like that move. Both Marshall and Bryant are bigger WR's and can still block well for the running game as well. But in a division with good defenses like NYJ and NE....two good to great WR's would allow them to work off of each other and not get double teamed.

The Broncos taking Pouncey is solid as well...they could take Iupati as well.

The first four picks seem set in stone on most mocks but after the top four mocks begin to verge off in different directions.

This article zeros in on the 7th selection and what Browns could be up to with speculation about, moving up for Bradford, staying put, or moving down.

After going over the possibilities and offering what they would do it comes to the most likely outcome.

Interesting with letting Jake Delhomme play this year some and then Bradford(or another rookie QB) take over fully in 2011. I would think in the same regard that Dilfer helped with hasselbeck's development.
