Not sure if I should blame the government by wasting my tax dollar or the NFL for being so darn greedy:

"...and other advertising" is the key to the story, though. The tributes are just part of the contract, signage, commercials, etc is where the most money is spent. Doesn't the National Guard title sponsor a couple NASCAR teams?

I'm jaded enough already, so it's kind of "meh, not surprising"

The league office was a trade association (501©6), which was not subject to tax, similar to a Chamber of Commerce. The teams (where all the money is, and where advertising fees are collected) are taxable, for-profit entities.

The article does say "paid 14 NFL teams 5.4 million dollars" does it not?
