I would always kick this deep and hope you get a stop but the key would be it would have to be a touchback so the 8 secs dont run off.

It's a free roll. If they get enough yards to get in FG range they have enough yards for a 1st down which ends the game anyway. Worst case you lose a few yards of field position when you get the ball back.
