Hereing a lot of complaining about the officiating in the pre-season, and more than a few people blaming Goodell, asking him to "just pay them what they want."
I admit to not knowing the details, but I thought the issues were about things other than money. Specifically, the NFL wants to add more officials so they have more flexibility, and most importantly, the NFL wnats to make a sizeable number of officials FULL TIME EMPLOYEES.
We've talked in here in the past about how officials should be full time. Full-timers could study more, train more...be BETTER. The current officials don't want to give up their other jobs to become full-timers..and THAT'S the key thing holding everything up.
I want our old officials back as much as anyone...but given the choice between the part time old-timers, and a new FULL-TIME crew...well....I'd rather suffer a year of two of sub-par work for the greater reward.
Did I miss something? Is there a key part of this I don't know about? Or are most people simply ignorant of the real problem in the negotiations?
