NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Not much of a return for Kessel and the Leafs have to eat some of his salary. Makes me wonder if Shanahan took Canada Day off and left Sweeney in charge of looking after the place.
They get two firsts and a second as Cox just said. Only, two of those already have names.

That's the same price they paid for Kessel.

the blackhawks should try to convince kimmo timonen to come out of retirement. he is good. would probably take the vet minimum too

Hardly the haul delusional Leafs fans had been clamoring for.
Wait until they see the return Phaneuf brings if they manage to move him. They'll be calling for Shanahan's head.

Most I'd go is a 3rd round pick for Phaneuf - any team that takes him is doing Toronto a favor

The picks the Leafs gave up turned out to be Tyler Seguin (#2 overall), Dougie Hamilton (#9 overall) and Jared Knight. Hardly the same value as what they just got.

@wyshynski: The Penguins get Phil Kessel at $6.75 million through 2022 and don't give up Pouliot or Maata. How the hell isn't that a win?

GJ trolling sportsnet on the Semin story whoever that was.

@NHLJets: The #NHLJets have agreed to terms with Alexander Burmistrov on a two-year contract.

Doug McLean: SEMIN TO PITTSBURGH?

Response: NO NO NO NO That's a fake account.
HFS.

How funny is my life that my immediate reaction after hearing this rumor was to wish that it were true so I could dig up some of Sheriff's old posts about Semin

@SNstats: Most goals in the NHL since 2009-10

5. Phil Kessel: 181

T10. Sidney Crosby: 170

T17. Evgeni Malkin: 153

#Penguins #NHLFreeAgency

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Kessel, Tyler Biggs, Tim Erixon and 2nd in 2016 for Kapanen, Harrington, Spaling, 1st and 3rd picks in 2016. TOR retains $1.25M/year.

Erixon on pace to be a member of every NHL team by the end of his career

Biggest Rangers news of the day by far is Sather stepping down as GM, will remain as President. Gorton promoted as expected.

Lol

@CrzyCanucklehed: Malkin, Crosby, Kessel: 24.95 million

Toews, Kane, Bickell: 25 million

Theyll be fine.

Sad the Leafs couldn't get Mattaa, but happy with the return. The pics wont be high picks, but are solid.

Harrington is a depth guy, and Kapenen has huge upside.

Don't know much about Spaling

Looking forward to a bunch of kessel and Crosby 2-on-0 breakaways next year, assuming the D and odd winger can clear the puck in 5-on-3 situations.

I have to agree, when I saw news that kessel traded to pens I said oh no goodbye pouliot or Matta. I would not have been happy but after seeing what we gave up, I love it.

still weak on D, no?
Defense wasn't as weak as most thought last year. Injuries really hurt them. That said, the defense still needs a little work.

Mike Green gets 3 years, $18MM from Detroit. Surprised so short.

@ByKevinAllen: The Red Wings didn't believe they would get Mike Green because they wouldn't give a long-term deal. He agreed to a three-year deal.
