NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (3 Viewers)

maybe this guy is the key to the deal?

Looks like he had a great year with Hershey.

Looks like STL did their homework in the Oshie deal. Pheonix Copley has the game to be a very good NHL G. No longer under the radar.
Oshie's time in STL was done.
Why?
He threw Hitchcock under the bus after the playoffs, he no-showed the series against Minnesota, and (per Armstrong) they had too many players of his type and wanted to get bigger on the wing.

No wonder the Kings didn't make the playoffs this year, the whole team was slinging dope under various bridges throughout North America.

If they are so worried about structuring the deal to protect ROR in case of a buyout, wouldn't that be an indication that maybe the deal might be a little too much, or too long?

I just think the contracts are starting to get a little out of whack across the board. Hope I'm proved wrong.

While on vacation, I just finished reading "Mr. Hockey." Really interesting to read the stories and to learn about the details that made Howe so special. E.g., as a teenager, he spent some time pegged as a goalie, but his time in the net gave him a strong puck sense, and playing with the wrong glove (the only one they had) helped him learn to shoot off of either hand. Despite being a super nice guy, some of the payback stories on the ice (sometimes months later) are hilarious.

Wtf. My wife just told me that Sid admitted to drugging girls to have sex with him in 2005. Pretty sure they would have had sex with him without the drugs.

Is this something that was out there. I dont remember hearing about it.

Im a hard of hearing idiot

Bill Cosby probably gets confused with Sidney Crosby all the time

8 years, $60MM for Tarasenko.
that's going to leave a mark, but nice to have him locked up long-term.

Blues cap hits:

Tarasenko 7.5

Stastny 7.0 (3 years left)

Steen 5.8 (2 years left)

Backes 4.5 (1 year left)

Berglund 3.7 (2 years left)

Brouwer 3.75 (1 year left)

Lehtera 2.25 (goes up to 4.7 for next 3 years)

Schwartz 2.35 (1 year then RFA)

Ott 2.6 (1 year left)

Pietrangelo 6.5

Bouwmeester 5.4 (4 years left)

Shattenkirk 4.25 (2 years left)

Gunnarsson 2.95 (1 year left)

Elliott 2.5 (2 years left)

Allen 2.35 (2 years then RFA)

have to lock up Schwartz next. Assuming he gets a nice bump, could be tough to keep Backes, Shattenkirk and Steen.

that Stastny contract was so dumb
Lehtera at $4.7MM seems high too.

When you are paying Stastny and him almost $12MM combined, do you have room left for Backes? What's he going to get? $6+ MM/year I'd assume.

I don't see any way they can keep Backes unless they can somehow shed someone else. Even dealing Shattenkirk really only buys them one year of relief.

Agreed, the Stastny contract is a real albatross for them.

Yea it's really a shame. Other than Selmon and Brooks no athlete was ever loved as much here. Now people look at you funny if you wear his jersey to the games.

It's only sports so I hate to use dumb analogies like this but it is like you really really adore and love your spouse and one day she just says #### you and leaves for a really stupid reason. People were just in shock. It never occurred to anybody that Marty would ever leave. And then one day he was gone.

It was weird.

It will soften over time. People in Detroit used to feel that way about Federov, now I think most people just remember the good times. He lost the ability to be as fondly thought of as some players that retired as Wings, but the animosity is gone.

Honestly shocked Oduya is holding out to see if Chicago can clear enought to sign him. I expected him to be gone immediately, would be thrilled to see him in a Hawks sweater next year.

Rumor is both he and Kruger have deals in place but can't sign until enough cap space is cleared. Man if the Hawks can keep Oduya and then bring up Johns and Pokka in addition to a full year for TVR, that's a nice blue line.
