NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (3 Viewers)

I'm wondering what if, instead of a shootout, they move to a college FB style PP vs. PK then switch. Competing 1 min 4 v 3 twice, then move to a 5 on 3 if still tied after? It would prob last a lot longer than the shootout, but at least that extra point is decided with real hockey, including coaching decisions on line combos given quickly shifting from PK to PP.

Sounds kind of silly.

The simple answer about all of this is that the NHL likes their point system. It allows for the standings to stay more bunched giving more teams a shot at the playoffs. They want to have less shootouts... That's it. They don't care about ties and 3 point wins.

:goodposting: It's ridiculous though.

The NHL should go to rotisserie standings, really shake things up.

The Hawks home whites are sweet.
I'm biased but I think the Hawks have the best sweater in the NHL and the best in all sports.
Personally, I think the Maple Leafs whites are the best. I love the Hawks home jerseys but think their white jerseys are average.
I too prefer the red sweaters, though disagree about the Leafs. I do however think the Habs sweaters are excellent.

I've been away for two weeks--how are Vermette, TT, Timonen and Desjardins playing?

Vermette and Timonen are getting better each game. TT has done well, and has shown some real promise on the line of Saad, Vermette, TT. Desjardins has been ok, not great not bad. Good utility player on the 3rd/4th line, good on the PK.

If the Hawks can last until Kane comes back that 2nd line could be phenomenal.

My post wasn't clear--I think the Leaf's whites are the best whites; not the best jerseys.

7 minutes doesn't seem very long. How about 10 minutes 4v4 and 5 minutes 3v3?
gllll getting that through
You know I don't have a seat at the negotiation table, right? I'm just a FBG. ;) If they play an extra period it's not like they're going to miss their bus or commercial flight.
NHLPA seems like they will fight anything. Longer overtimes put more stress on the players. They already started to complain about 3 v 3 being too hard on the star players.
Then depth can win out. Coaches aren't forced to play their stars super high minutes. I think the stars are going to be chomping at the bit to play the OT. The reasons I'd like to see a few more minutes added is that not only is it likely even less shoot-outs will happen than they've tested, but also to see how each team handles line changes and line combinations.

Anyone watching Hawks/Rangers on Directv? It looks like it's in regular def for me. My friends who are watching on Comcast say it's in HD for them. Anyone watching on DTV?

No problem with that loss for the Rangers. Can't win 'em all. Near-fatal late mistakes by Yandle and Boyle nearly ended it a few minutes early.

Nice game for Yandle, btw. I like his game, just what they needed/will need for the playoffs.

What is Kadri's deal? Just a dick or a matter of needing to grow up?
I'm going to let the experts dissect this one for you.
He is an entitled kid that has no work ethic.

It was the same story when he played here in London. Has never really had the reins pulled to tightly on him, and now that some is pulling them, he is whining about it.

I hope he is also gone this summer.

Parm, not sure how much you follow the OHL as far as all teams go, but if you've watched Owen Sound at all, wondering if you've gotten a look at Jarrett Meyer? http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=248324- family friend. He has tremendous size at 6'9 250+. This was his first year in major juniors so it was an obvious step up in competition. Looks like he was part of a rotation as a 6th D man. Signed with Bobby Orr's agency and has compared favorably with Chara at the same age from several different scouting reports.

I saw him, can't help but notice him, but he skates like you'd expect a guy 6'9" 250 to skate.

Some interesting stats from the Rangers-Hawks game last night

Last night's NYR-CHI game delivered a 2.39 rating in NY market, best-ever reg. season NHL rating on NBCSN in NY (excluding Stadium Series).

Last night's #Rangers-#Blackhawks game also had a 0.73 rating nationally, second-best on NBCSN this season behind opening night.

Capgeek passed away today. Sad.
Is this the guy with a website that recently shut down. Was it known this was why?
Yeah. Assuming he shut it down after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. RIP Matthew.
Aw, that sucks. #### cancer.

rip
The thing is the connections he had were amazing. He had info no one else had or could get apparently since no other sites have been able to get that info since he shut down CapGeek.

Definitely seemed like a big hit to people who were into it. Says a lot about what he accomplished.

Speaking of awesome,Ovechkin with 2 more tonight in a very entertaining game in Minnesota.
And now leading the league in points.
I have been one of his worst critics but the way the guy can score goals is simply amazing.A generational scorer with only really Stamkos as somebody who can hang with him doing it.

Pens look to be going down so my hope is they can get the 2 or 3 slot in the Metro and avoid the Rangers and Montreal first round.

Yes it is. Please don't update the thread title with results before giving us at least a fair chance to watch on the DVR. Thanks. I'm through two periods and still holding out hope though!
