NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Speaking of awesome,Ovechkin with 2 more tonight in a very entertaining game in Minnesota.
And now leading the league in points.
I have been one of his worst critics but the way the guy can score goals is simply amazing.A generational scorer with only really Stamkos as somebody who can hang with him doing it.
Ovechkin is in a class all by himself right now, when it comes to scoring goals.

Saw this stat last night - his 2-goal game vs. the Wild was his 13th multiple-goal game of the season. He now has 4 seasons in his career with at least 13 multiple-goal games. That's more than the rest of the NHL combined over the 10 years Ovechkin has been in the NHL - Crosby, Stamkos, and Jonathan Cheechoo are the only guys who have had one season with 13 multiple-goal games.

It doesnt happen often, but last night's loss for Mn is on Parise IMO. He let his anger get the best of him and it cost the team two goals.

Holy crap. That's quite a stat. I think the thing that is equally amazing about him is that he doesn't even try and hide where he wants to be or how he wants to score. Shooting from the spot to the left of the net. That's where so many of his goals come from, yet teams still can't stop him from there. I don't fully understand it, but there are few people in any sport that basically say, "This is where I like to be," more than he does with that spot, yet he still produces.

Some teams focus on him on the PP and basically make it a 4 on 3 PP for the Caps by making sure one defender is always right next to Ovechkin. Last night, the Wild were definitely always shading his way on the PP and he didn't get a bunch of clean shots. His 2nd goal, though, is another example of what you're talking about. I'd guess maybe 8, give or take, of his goals this season are from that designed face-off play. If Backstrom gets a clean win, he's getting a really good chance. What I don't get is why defenses don't just send a guy towards him immediately at the drop of the puck and ignore whether they win the draw or not. Most defenders seem to hesitate to see where the puck is going. Why? Just rush Ovechkin.

Lindback trying to become the most hated Sabres player ever.

He’s gone to the crease in Buffalo’s last seven games, putting up a .934 save percentage and 2.41 goals-against average while stopping 32 shots per night

Time to get Chad in there!
somehow he got hurt badly in practice. not even sure he'll play this year.

team needs more Hackett imo.

Put Chad in anyway!

lol, they are. at every level. when you win it that clean to a release that quick you can't get in the lane.

not sure what Parise can do, Wilson gets called for a dive and then goes after him. just a masterful pest job. Wild just need to be better on 4 on 4 which they've been below average over the last two seasons.

he still has 1 win. every Sabres goalie has a decent save percentage this year because they give up 40 shots a night. the cellar is safe.

Go back and look at what Backstrom did to win that faceoff and get Ovie the shot is where this play was made.Defenders had no shot to get to Ovie.

On his first goal it was a rush from his own blueline to then face Spurgeon and Suter in a 1 on 2 and still gets off 2 shots to score.Suter looked as though he didn't expect Ovie to follow up his own shot and got caught napping even though he was in good position to start with.

Of course they need to be better, but giving Ovechkin more ice isnt a good plan. If you watch the replay, I think Parise instigated the whole kerfuffle. He got hit hard and didn’t like it. He started with some stick work and then finally the take down.

Nope. Yotes are pulling an epic tank. Only a matter of time until Sabres pass them.

2 huge games against Arizona left to play. Team needs the flu bug to run through the locker room soon. Nolan has them playing hard and trying to sabotage the entire season.

Lindback took 3 of 4 points over the weekend. Not good at all. Yotes are a disaster. They have 3 points in their last 17 games and have a tougher remaining schedule.

Johnny Gaudreau is really fun to watch. Especially against cement footed defensemen.
Berube sealing his fate with handling of Mason?

Of course there's also the whole losing thing, too.
Blockhead should've been ####canned after playing Mason coming off injury with no practice twice, and playing after being promised not to play unless in emergency situation.

Here's a great view of the Ovie 47th goal.Backstrom works his magic against Haula, ties up his stick, gets it to his own stick and then the quick dish to Ovie.

Backstrom is so :moneybag:
Looked like Brodziak had plenty of time to get to Ovechkin.
I'm gonna assume he had the responsiblity of also watching the point man as well so this could be where they ask him to be and get his stick in the way if at all possible(which he failed to do).

ETA:You can see Brodziak's first move is towards the point and then he reacts to Ovie.

Right, that was original point. While some teams are clearly dedicated to taking Ovechkin away on the PP, they haven't started doing the same thing on that set face off play. Why wasn't Ovechkin his assignment?

He's a one trick pony. Clearly a product of 'the system.'

Jets are gonna cause some stink in the West if they get into the playoffs.Remind me a little of the Kings except for the goaltending with the size and skill they have.

Blues are in playoff mode. Should be another fun week in April.

What a horribly officiated game today capped off with an allowed goal scored by a broken stick. Bleh

Who is the worst referee in NHL history? Kerry Fraser keeps popping up on my twitter feed and it's bringing back some memories of how bad he truly was.

Thought this was an interesting read from a hockey dad point of view. Really puts things into perspective on what it takes.

Looking forward to a great game at the garden tonight. Hope the back to back doesnt hurt the blue shirts. Leaving in 15 minutes.
Doesn't look like it so far.
Where did all those goals come from. Hopefully that gets them right going into the stretch.
