Nice Surprises (1 Viewer)

Obviously finding a folded-up $20 bill in your jeans you haven't worn in months is a nice surprise.  How about some others?

The other night, I went to get some ice cream after dinner and we were out.  Wah-wahhhh.  But I just happened to look in the highest part of the freezer door shelving and found a half-rack of Thin Mints.  SCORE!  They've been in there for months and were probably a little freezer-burnt but they were still delicious.

sometimes in the morning my pos car starts the first time i try to turn it over instead of the third or fourth time and it is slightly less embarassing to get down the road to work thats pretty neat take that to the bank brohans

Found out a HS buddy works no more than 150 feet from me, same office complex.  The other day I dorkily posted some pics on the FB from my daily morning walk of trees and whatnot and he replies "hey, that looks like my office complex".  We're grabbing lunch today.

That's cool, actually. Good looking out sometimes.

Nice surprises? On that same theme, I have childhood friends that I thought were fly by night in adulthood, but weren't. That's actually the best surprise.

I usually get the Steak and Cheese. I changed up my normal sandwich order today from Yellow Sub and went with the Italian combo.   It was sparked.

Sometimes when I get a Large Fries there's a free Onion Ring in there. Pretty sweet.
Not much into onion rings (or onions altogether) so this wouldn't be a nice surprise.  A curly fry (or waffle, better yet) mixed in with the regular jobbers would be, though!

Happy Friday,  y'all!

One year I went to the mall to buy the old lady some ear rings that were on sale before Christmas 10% off or something, like $150.  Saw some that I liked better for around $300 that were not on the sale.  Lady said she would see if she could apply another discount and accidentally applied 15% off twice, and then another 10% for the Christmas sale (that she told me 5 minutes earlier didn't apply).  Ended up getting the more expensive ones that I liked better for less than the ones I went in for.

On the way home I stopped to pick up pizza.  It was a brand new joint and the new girl had no idea how to run the register.  When she hit the buttons it rang up $0, she had a confused look on her face and said, "Oh I guess it's free would you like a complimentary soda while you wait?"  Took home free dinner.

When I got in the car I thought this is some crazy ####, I better go buy a lottery ticket.  Stopped again on the way home.......

....did not win.

I once tried on a pair of $3 shorts at a thrift store and found $20 in the pocket.  The shorts fit too!

I booked a cross-country trip years back. Had to take a layover somewhere, so, why not Vegas? And, why not for 2 nights? So I booked it like 4-5 months in advance, got the cheapest hotel room (Internet rate basic suite, not even in the hotel proper, but, in a secondary building next to the parking lot, for like $60 a night), and forgot about it.

Then a few days before I leave, I go to check the hotel website and see if there's any events or happenings I could check out while I'm there. Nothing. But the rate for my "cheapest room in the hotel" is now about $400. Glad I booked early!

I get there, and it's mobbed. A line of people wrapped around the building. Semi trucks full of equipment outside. I fight through to the check in desk and give them my reservation.

"Oh, there's been a change" the guy says. So many people were looking to pay $400 a night for the basic internet room, they sold out. So they're bumping up my reservation to the king suite in the main hotel (I guess no one wanted to pay like $3k for it) at my original price.

I ask why the madhouse at the hotel.

"You don't know? Howard Stern is broadcasting from the lobby all week."

I turn around, look over the zoo of people, and sure enough there's Howard, Robin, Jackie, and the rest of the whack pack all up on a dais doing the show. I check it out for a bit, then go up to my room. It overlooks the pool, like 2-3 floors up. An hour later, Howard comes out and does a promo photoshoot for the hotel with a dozen girls in bikinis practically in front of my window.

I spent the next two days going downstairs to watch them do the show live, then hang out in the sportsbook with Beetlejuice and High Pitch Eric betting on Mets games with them. For $120, total, for the trip.

That was a nice surprise.
Yeah that's cool and all, but were there free thin mints?

I do not travel as much as many on these boards.  One year while heading to Europe mrs and I were bumped up to 1st from coach. We have had our share of upgrades and free tix using our miles, but that was a nice treat.

I went to Italy with $7 and came back with $8. No idea where that extra dollar came from but it was nice to make money on vacation.

actually brohan it is sort of a delicate dance where you have to feather the gas pedal as you are turning it over and hope it catches and revs really loud which is another really awesome thing about this pos car o mine nothing beats playing the automotive version of operation every morning trying to get her lit up its like if you touch the sides the beeper goes off and you have to start all the hell over no good brohan it just aint no good take that to the bank bromigo

years back when the pricelines and such were really just cheap airfare (2001), I found a deal on flights from NY to CA for our 1 year anniversary. When we got to the ticket counter—b/c there was no on line check in or anything—we found our seats were booked separate from each other. So i asked the desk attendant to see about putting them together. She asked if we would mind sitting al the way in the back, which we said was fine.

So we get on plane, big one with 2 seats on each side and 3 down the middle. We make our way to the back and notice there are 2 chairs, last row, that look a bit different then the others. Soon we realize they are our seats—leather headrests, extra cushiony, double leg room, recline almost al the way back and freakin flip up foot rests!!!!

Turns out those are reserved fro the flight attendants who had to work flights that crossed over union mandated sleep time or something like that. And this flight didn't fit that category so they were able to seat us there.

wasn't 1st class...but we called it 'white trash 1st class' and everyone else in coach was giving us dirty looks all flight  lol
