Nicks out a few weeks (1 Viewer)

i'm happy cause i can now confidently start him next week after my 1st round bye....like most owners in the situation i was hoping he'd just make it through today so i'd feel good about starting him next week in a huge game at philly........now that he's shown he's back, it's a must start.
 All us Nicks owners can breathe a sigh of relief. Couldn't come at a better time.

the phrase "must start" is thrown around way too often. Where do you see him ranking in the final weeks? (FWIW, I have him, Roddy White and DJax and start 2)

They do play Philly this week but its at home. Of note is that both Smith and Manningham left the game yesterday with injuries, so we'll see what happens this week.

The bolded also made me smile.

Hakeem Nicks returned to the Giants' starting lineup in Week 14, catching a game-high seven passes for 96 yards.

Perhaps most importantly, he played a full complement of snaps. Nicks was back to his old self, making tough catches in traffic with outstanding body control. He could've had a truly monster night, but Eli Manning badly overthrew him after Nicks had Asher Allen beaten by a solid four steps down the left sideline for a would-be 60-yard touchdown. Nicks has regained WR1 status heading into Week 15 against Philadelphia.

And that four steps may be an underestimation. Allen was basically standing there watching Nicks run past him on that play. Eli makes a better throw and he would have jogged in for a score.

I was at the game and to me Nicks couldnt go full bore on the sprint to get it and I think he could of jumped/leaped at it to grab it. All the blame doesnt go to Eli, but they are certainly on the same page heading into next week

You're probably at least partially correct, and I wasn't really trying to throw Eli under the bus. I was more pointing out that Nicks had Allen dead to rights.

FWIW, on the Manning to Boss TD, Brett Favre's purple hand could've hit Nicks. He was standing wide open in the corner. And it wasn't like he ran around to get open...the CB and S clearly weren't on the same page as neither stayed on Nicks. Also, on the one long skinny post that they did connect on, it looked like if Manning gets the ball more upfield, Nicks may have been able to split the defenders and take it the distance. Maybe not, but I rewound it a couple of times...and it looked like a possibility.

Needless to say, as a Nick's owner that barely lost, Manning/Nicks left a lot of points on the field...didn't watch the game, but the highlights were upsetting.

Hakeem Nicks, WR Giants – It’s being reported that Hakeem Nicks has a condition called Compartment Syndrome and had surgery to correct the problem. If that’s so then Nicks is done for the year. You know how I know that? I battled Compartment Syndrome for 15 years and had four surgeries on my two legs.

It’s this simple: you can’t run if you have Compartment Syndrome. When you try and run, the compartments in your lower legs fill up with fluid and it’s extremely painful. The condition only gets progressively worse. The only way to correct the problem is to have surgery to release the compartments. Some people decide to live with the condition and not have the surgery. They just choose not to run, like Jerry Seinfeld.

So, Nicks had the surgery and the Giants are saying he will be back in three weeks? Are you kidding me? I had the exact same surgery and I could barely walk three weeks later. Professional athlete or not, it’s going to take more than three weeks to recover from that procedure. That is a devastating surgery.

Trust me; this is a very rare and painful condition. If you want to see what Compartment Syndrome looks like after it’s corrected, check this out. And that was the good leg. I didn’t think to take a picture of the other leg but it was much worse. That was two weeks after surgery. Still think Nicks is coming back this year?

I had my first surgery in 2004. I had both compartments released. However, the doctor was an idiot and it came right back. This past summer, I had each leg done again and I was laid up for three months. That’s not all, after surgery you have to work back slowly. I had my surgeries in May and June. While I can work out and do cardio machines, I can’t physically run again until next May. That’s how serious this condition can be.

A running back for Washington State, James Montgomery, missed all of the 2009 season with Compartment Syndrome. The Giants can tell you Nicks is going to be out for three weeks all they want but they are kidding themselves.

The Giants aren’t fooling me. I don’t get the three week timetable. I know how much pain that surgery causes and how long it takes to get back to normal. Nicks is all done. I guarantee it.

Listen. I’ve battled this problem for almost half my life. I’ve done extensive research on it and talked to numerous doctors. I’m an expert on Compartment Syndrome. I used to walk slowly around the track and have to sit down with tears in my eyes the pain was so unbearable. That’s walking slowly around a track, not trying to run by Asante Samuel.

I’m officially reporting that Hakeem Nicks is done for the year. I will bet my life on it.
Should we call friends and neighbors to check on this guy?

From ESPN.com fantasy news:

Nicks (hamstring) underwent an MRI on Tuesday due to a setback suffered in his recovery, the New York Daily News reports.

Spin: Not much more information was released, so it looks like we will have to wait until we receive official word on the result of the tests. Consider Nicks questionable for to be safe.

With AJ, Calvin, Colston and Nicks in a league where I only start 2 of them I am happy as a clam he looks good, but I most likely won't use him.

he did come out for a few plays and then went back in, prob sore and just being cautious

Nicks, this is why I didn't want you playing this week. I was on a BYE and need you the next two weeks. Next time, please listen to me.

Every update I've seen today on NYG WRs, and there have been many, have involved Steve Smith and Manningham. I haven't seen a thing on Nicks. Just looked on roto and ESPN too.KY

The ESPN blurb posted above credits the Nicks MRI report to the New York Daily News. Not one report posted online at nydailynews.com suggests Nicks had an MRI.

I found the Blue Screen (Giants blog) with this injury update. Reading the comments, it appears to me the original posting mentioned Nicks as having an MRI rather than Smith. It has since been changed.

This is just my guess, as there are no other reports (that I can find at least) with regard to Nicks.

Just wait and see, I guess.

I believe either Manningham or Smith got the MRI, not Nicks.

Also, watched the game last night, it appeared Nicks tweaked his groin during the game but came back in after that. I think he'll be fine for next week.

New York Post is reporting SMITH not NICKS has the injured hamstring and received an MRI. Nicks was briefly out of the game to receive additional stretching but returned to finish the game in good health.

Heading into the 2nd round of the playoffs, I'm not concerned at all about Nicks status against Philly. He was yukin' it up on the sidelines late in the game Monday night. Most of us were worried about putting him in the lineup in Week 14. While not the point production he's expected to get, I'll take the 9 pts. and look forward to Week 15 in a huge NFC East matchup. Big players step up for big games....This is his time to shine.

We drafted him early for a reason.

Good luck to everyone reading this. Settle for nothing but the prize.

How "early" are you talking. I don't consider round 5 early in a draft, which is probably his ADP in a 12 team league. Don't get me wrong, that's when you're really building your team, but I'm curious where you took him and if others would consider round 5 early. I stole him, I think, in round 6. Obviously huge value, and, in hind sight, would have been a good pick maybe even round 3. Hell, he's 9th in WR/TE scoring in my league even with the injury, but how early he would have been a good pick is subjective to the individual league.

I'm not trying to insult you! Any word will have different meaning, depending on context, to various people, and I'm just trying to clarify what rounds the "Sharks " consider early. Myself, the first two, and maybe third, are early, then it's building and value time. I know, it's symantics, but I like to gain any insight I can into the way people think, and this may help in trading of draft picks, for example, to get a feel on what others consider early, or more valued, picks.

Thanks for indulging me Sharks.

Agree I got him in the 6th round at pick 61 in my 12 man league. That is not early in the draft.

I got him at 71 - 6.1 in a 14-team league. I don't consider that an early pick at all, but I also know I got an absolute steal.
