Nicks out a few weeks (1 Viewer)

Nicks just declared OUT for Sunday on NFL network update (around 7pm EST).

Why? What happened?

ETA: no confirmation of NFL Network's information or link so far, so stay tuned

Who exactly said this? Laconfora?
It was one of the "anchors" at the start of NFL Total Update. They were talking about the blizzard that has marooned the Giants in KC. Then they showed a video of Steve Smith and said that he is questionable, "which is better than Hakeem Nicks who has been declared out" or something to that effect.I wasn't even watching by that time, as I was viewing other threads in the Shark Pool and listening to the broadcast.

I don't know what else to tell you except that this is no joke on my part. If they're wrong or I'm having some kind of hallucinations, all I can do is apologize. But obviously I thought I'd report what I believe I heard on NFLN.

I was listening to Sirius NFL around that time, and while they didn't say he was definatley playing, he is one of the Giants in KC waiting to complete flight to Min. If he was OUT, I don't think he would have travelled. Just my $.02.

If this is true it was pretty dumb to even have him travel especially under bad conditions. :whoosh:

I agree with you. I'm surprised by the supposed news.I'm hoping for confirmation from someone else. By no means am I confident in the NFLN report.Hopefully someone else can confirm or refute what was said on NFLN. In the meantime, I thought it merited posting in here.

per Mike Garafolo, NYG beat writer:

For those asking about NFL Net report on Nicks not playing, I'm told that's not accurate. Also team says no changes to injury report.

I think Nicks will play. There were too many quotes in reports that said that he and Bradshaw were in good shape to play. If he sits, I have to scour the WW for a warm WR body as I have a short bench and already benched Kenny Britt.

According to this twitter page (Ralph Vacchiano reporter) the NFL Network report was WRONG.

The #NYG say that, despite a report somewhere, WRs Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith are both still "questionable" for tomorrow's game.
Sorry for the apparent false alarm. I was just -- and still am -- reporting the news I have heard concerning Hakeem Nicks. Carry on.
No need to apologize. It was a solid report with some links. Even if it's not true, it makes Nicks owners nervous, and maybe we should be.

Thanks for the info Jerk ( ). You went out of your way to be deferential in just reporting what you saw. Quite obvious that is exactly what NLFN said. Their bad, not yours. Thanks again.

Apparently NYG will fly out at 8am and arrive at 9. Not that bad all things considered.Starting him if he is declared active. :goodposting:
Now that the game has been rescheduled to Monday, this really makes starting Nicks risky. If he sits, the odds of not having someone to replace him just took a jump.

Yeah I was just saying the same thing in the blizzard thread. The only way I'd go for it is if I was a huge underdog where the risk was worth the reward.

I think this decision comes down to what you thought the probability was that Nicks was going to sit out BEFORE the game rescheduling and NFLN report.

Me, I had put the probability that Nicks plays at ~80%. Seemed to me that he was on his way back, was practicing all the way through Friday without setback. He sounded positive about the way he felt, how fast he heals, stiches were coming out, etc. Yes, he hadn't been cleared at that point, but all signs pointed to him playing. He was listed as questionable and he traveled with the team.

Nothing about that probability has changed given these new cirumstances.

Sure, the 20% chance (IMO) he won't play absolutely cuts down on margin for error given the game is Monday night, but the only thing that's changed here is the game's time. And the fact that Nicks has an extra day to heal.

I've been tossing and turning my options over again and again -- slotting in a guy like Mason in at WR and putting Nicks in the flex and swapping him out for Brandon Jacobs just in case -- but I think I'm coming to the conclusion that this is all overthinking this.

I am leaning towards putting him in, hell or high (frozen) water.

I am right there with you. Starting Nicks in both my leagues. Just have faith. Nicks starts and pulls down 2 TD's. Not overthinking this at all.

Not sure why Nicks/Manningham owners wouldn't wait and roll the dice. If Smith plays, Manningham will likely move to the #2 WR role where he is probably more productive.

I expect Nicks to start, but added Mason so I have an option in case Nicks can't play.

Can't believe Mason was out there on the waivers?!?For those that are really desperate (such as moi)... I just added Dreesen, Daniels, and Camarillo (Flex league) to choose from just in case Hicks it out. :hifive:

Dodds/Tremblay/Norton has Camarillo ranked quite a bit higher than Daniels/Dreesen, but Bloom has Daniels ranked way higher than both Dreesen and Camarillo... Man, I hope Hicks plays... what a cluster****

Not a problem as I'm set with another great MNF WR if Nicks can't go: Harvin.

From Hicks' Twitter

@notoriousohm, im gunna play sunday. you can run and tell that, homeboy! lmao6:18 PM Dec 9th via web
I'm assuming that would apply to Mon as well, and gives his stitches another day to heal

what about Smith? Is it a lock that he's playing? Anyone know of another player who's worn this same type of harness and how did it affect their game?

That isn't Hakeem Nicks Twitter.

Unless it says VERIFIED, you dont trust this stuff.

Plus I would think he'd have more than 400 followers if it were really him.

:)

So are Nicks owners staying with him or are you starting someone else in case he is ruled out later? Will there be any updatesto his status before the noon games today?

You can try snagging camarillo as an ugly insurance policy. At least he returns punts and I think he'll be WR3 with harvin out?

Picked up Hagan as a safety, if you can call it that...

But I plan on keeping Nicks in...I think he plays. How well he does, I don't know, but I sure hope he's out there!

Past the waiver wire deadline in my league. My only option is 85 and he plays at noon today.

With the ability to list a backup before noon kickoffs in case a player is inactive, I'm starting him over S.Jax. I feel like if NO gets up quick on the Rams, then I would end up with a SJax stat line of 75 yards, 2 catches and no TD's. Nicks if active, should be able to have a floor of 4 catches/50 yards which in our league is a worth the same. It comes down to who scores and I think Nicks has the best chance on a Monday Night game that now has lost some of the Minny hometown advantage. Bold move for me in the playoffs? I guess, but we willl see....
