Wainwright had the most first place votes, but Timmy had more 2nd places. Voting:

Tim Lincecum, San Francisco Giants — 11 – 12 – 9 — 100 points

Chris Carpenter, St. Louis Cardinals – 9 – 14 – 7 — 94 points

Adam Wainwright, St. Louis Cardinals — 12 – 5 – 15 — 90 points

Javier Vazquez, Atlanta Braves — 0 – 1 – 0 — 3 points

Dan Haren, Arizona Diamondbacks — 0 – 0 – 1 – 1 point

Any of the top three would have been deserving. Interesting that Carpenter was left off the ballot by the two guys who voted for Vazquez and Haren--the 200 IP plateau may have been a factor.

What's really going to be interesting is how much he's going to get from the Giants. After winning the award last year he was only able to make around 650K because of his years in the league. I believe he is eligible for arbitration. It will be interesting to see how the Giants handle this situation.

If they're smart, they'll go year to year.

Keith Law's explanation why he voted Vazquez 2nd and left Carpenter off his ballot:

Carpenter’s innings total was the main reason he ended up off my ballot. He pitched extremely well when on the mound, but not well enough to close the value gap between him and the three pitchers I listed, each of whom threw at least 27 innings more than Carpenter. Both Carpenter and Wainwright received significant help from their defense, while neither Lincecum nor Vazquez could say the same. As for Vazquez, he ranked ahead of Wainwright in the advanced metrics anyway, but I also gave him extra credit for pitching in the most difficult division in the NL, one in which he had to face two great offenses and only one patsy.

Really? The Phillies and ...the Marlins? He can't be talking about the Mets. Why doesn't he just fess up and admit he forgot to put Carpenter on his ballot? 27 innings seems kinda weak especially after the season Carpenter had.

Keith Law is an idiot.

That aside, as a Cardinals fan, I have no problem with this result. Any of the top 3 would have been a deserving winner, as shown by how close the voting was. Lincecum won. Kudos to him. He deserved it, just like Carpenter or Wainwright would have, had either of them won.

I saw Timmy pitch against my Cubbies last year. We had great seats, only a couple rows from the field down the right field line. Just so happened, we got there early, and were able to catch Timmy warming up. It was a hot summer day, and as is typical in Wrigley, the wind was blowing straight out. I started yelling at Timmy........Winds blowing out, we scored 10 yesterday, we're coming to get you............ Mid warm up pitch, he stopped and looked up at me, then to the flags in center, back to me, and just shrugged :penalty: kind of like saying no big deal

Needless to say, he dominated.

guy is nails

31 total wins between the two Cy Young winners this year. I know this means that the voters are "smarter" and not considering wins, which is more of a team effort, but Denny McLain has to be laughing a little bit today.

unfortunatley, he'll be a Yankee, Red Sock, or Met some day...

Well the Giants have a history of spending money so I'm not so sure they won't lock him up. We're not talking about the Pirates or the Marlins here.

Lincecum isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2012 season. Coincidentally, 2013 is the final year of the Zito contract ($7M team buyout option in 2014).Needless to say, a lot can happen between now and then.
