How can you be "MVP" if the guy 3rd in the voting is the guy that protects you in the lineup. Kemp was far and away the most deserving.

"If [Kemp] had won the award, I couldn't have argued with it, by any means," Braun said. "If Prince Fielder had won the award, I couldn't have argued with it, by any means. I just feel so fortunate to have ended up winning."
Of Kemp's candidacy, Braun said, "I think if you honestly assess my season versus Matt Kemp's, I think Matt Kemp probably had a better year than me, individually. But I was fortunate to be on a better team and had an opportunity to be in some big moments."

Their numbers where very similar so it seems the guy who was on the team that went to the playoffs is more deserving than the one that didn't.

Even Braun knows he shouldn't have won. Not a travesty by any means, but it's pretty obvious that Kemp should have won.

I think Kemp or Braun would have been excellent choices. Ultimately it was team success that gave the edge to Braun. It happens.

And wOBA, which pretty much means he had the best season as a hitter. Kemp had more steals, but Braun rates as the better baserunner by some of the newer baserunning metrics. Neither are particularly good outfielders, but Kemp plays a harder position. Very close race. I think when it's this close you go with the guy who helped his team make the playoffs.

Doesn't this happen in most sports? If the stats are close (as they are with Braun v Kemp) the one on the more successful team generally wins the award.
Yup, the worst thing American sports ever did was name the award for best player MVP. Leaves it way to open to interpretation. Should have named it the MOP.

Not sure where you'd get the idea that Kemp isn't a particularly good outfielder.
