I only saw about 5 innings of Roy's work, did anyone hit anything hard? The hardest I saw was the relief pitcher in the top of the 3rd. They should send the Jays a gift basket.

nothing was close at all. Weak pop ups and easy grounders

Well, last I checked, they only get 1 win for this game, right?

Props to Doc. He made the best offense in the NL look really, really bad.
it is the first post season no no in 50+ years, I think they can be excited
Sure, and rightfully so. That was a 100% dominating performance. He owned my boys tonight. Fact is, though, it's still only 1 game. The series is far from over is all I'm saying (I did say Phillies in 4 though). Not harping on the players or fans, not at all. That was pretty incredible. I'm saying it more for the Reds fans around :goodposting:

That's pretty cool. Sorry I didn't get a chance to see it. Wednesday afternoon baseball fever - Catch It

Huh? He wasn't pitching to his own team...
Reds scored the most runs in the NL this year.Reds had the highest BA in the NL this year

Reds had the highest SLG% in the NL this year

Reds had the second highest OBP in the NL this year

Reds in 4. They beat Halladay once this year and another game was a 0-0 ties between Halladay and Woods that Philly won in extra innings. Oswalt did own the Reds, but the crushed his ### the last time he started against them while in Houston. Bruce is on a great roll right now, Votto is Votto, and aslong as Phillips keeps his mouth shut and just plays he should be ok. Rolen has also hit very well in Philly since he left them.
Halladay had a 2.11 ERA in his 2 starts against the Reds with 19 K and 1 BB in 17 innings. This evidence is a good thing for the Reds when breaking it down?
oh

The Philly Phaithful is might over confident in this one. A lot of them are calling for Philly in 2, as the Reds will be so embarrassed with the beating they took in the first two games....they won't show up for the third one. While Philly's three starters are going to be tough to beat.... Cincy has some decent starters, a good bullpen and a potent O. Plus, Philly's O has been very inconsistent this year. I think Philly takes it.....but I wouldn't be surprised to see Cincy push it to five games.
Maybe these guys were onto something?

Reds in 4. Calling it now.
20-33 (now 34) against teams with a winning record, Dusty Baker managing, Travis Wood NOT starting (he's a rook and we need the experience of EDISON VOLQUEZ) = I'm hoping you get a 2nd home game just to bring in $$ and pick up the bandwagoners (this happens everywhere, it is not an insult). Cincy is a good baseball town and deserves as much.

Some post game comments from the Reds:

* "In the three at-bats I had, I might have had one pitch to hit and I fouled it back." - Drew Stubbs

* "In my last at-bat, I was just up there hacking - I looked up on the board and he's got like 21 or 22 balls in the eighth inning - and that didn't work for me, either." - Jonny Gomes

* "I was taking too big of swings, honestly. When it got to 3-2 and he threw that sinker down, I was just able to lay off it." - Jay Bruce, whose fifth-inning walk accounted for the Reds' only baserunner.

* "If he would have pitched like that against the Phillies, I'm pretty sure they would have done the same thing." - Brandon Phillips

* "I hate to use hyperbole, but he's an ace among aces." - Joey Votto

* "I never thought I would look forward to facing Roy Oswalt." - Scott Rolen

* "If I was thinking of this scenario, it would be like a nightmare. And I don't like having nightmares." - manager Dusty Baker on Cincinnati's first playoff game since 1995.

These are great quotes.

More recent numbers.28 more runs, 5 more HR's, 27 BA points, 77 more OPS points = better offense.

Good luck to you.

Loved Scott Rolen's comment. Orlando Cabrera's not so much.
He and the umpire threw a no-hitter. Another umpire and another zone, he wouldn’t have been able to throw a game like that. Basically, he was getting every pitch. We had no chance.

There were definitely a couple that were questionable, but give me a break. All of those 1st-pitch strikes were strikes and that was the key.

:goodposting: Is he implying that his boy Edison was getting squeezed?! He wasn't even close in the first two innings. Cabrera's a punk, him and his team got owned and his failure to recognize that and blame the ump will not help him for the rest of the series.

So you take away what teams did over an entire season and are going by numbers for the month of September? If that is the case then even more recent numbers would be the last 5 games of the regular season, can we do that instead?

Red marks are strikes and the black box is the strike zone.
I'm confused. That's not actually all the pitches. There are only like 50 strikes total and Halladay had like 80. Or could some pitches have been in the exact same place?
I was thinking those are the pitches called by the home plate umpire that weren't put into play or fouled off. :)
good point. I guess that's all that would really matter.

I should have known better than to get into an argument with a homer. I have no dog in the fight, just pointing out the obvious. See ya next season.

any special rules if a batted ball hits the bat in fair territory?
D*mn.. I better check my rule book. I've been umpiring Senior League games and hate to get caught off guard.I think the ball is live if there was no intent to interfer....

You really are obtuse, aren't you. I didn't quantify and say "in the last month". Over the entire season, the Reds were the best offense in the NL. If you care to continuing making stupid arguments, please refer to my first sentence.

It kind of looked to me like Phillips did try to throw the bat at it and he'd be the kind of guy to do it. Seems like a weird place to drop the bat, but I'm sure that it could have been unintentional as well.

His team just got their clock cleaned. No sense bolstering the other team by telling them how good they are while there are a games still left to be played.

Given that both teams had their postseasons virtually locked up for all of September, I can't think of a worse month to cherry pick stats from. Pretty good backpeddle though.

You also didn't qualify and say "over the entire season" in your statement. I don't think there are many people outside of the Cincy homers who would agree with your position. I'll back away and watch the remainder of the playoffs.

Polanco back in tonight, Rolins moved down. Both good moves IMO.

Tonight's lineup for Game 2 vs Reds-Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Werth RF, Rollins SS, Ibáñez LF, Ruiz C and Oswalt P.
