Edelman is the odd man out if Welker plays, right? Too bad, he could be money.
I understand the thinking here since Edelman looks like Welker's mini-me but I strongly disagree with it. Edelman is a legit talent who the Pats will use regularly. Obviously his value would go way up if Welker were to miss anytime (his value goes up if Moss misses time as well) but overall I see him being the clear-cut #3 option in the Patriot passing game.

so Brandon Tate won't be involved then?I think Patriots best personnel package is probably 10 (1 RB 4 WR). Welker & Edelman in the slots with Tate/Moss outside. Seems to me that it would be tough to defend especially if you put a hammer in the backfield that will destroy 5 man fronts (if teams come with 6 DB's)

I think Tate will be involved if he proves to be the real deal...yet, I see him more of a hit or miss type of guy where I see Edelman being a regular contributor on a week-to-week basis.

I agree. It is going to be tough for D's to stop Welker AND Edelman, Moss etc... Talk is that Aaron Hernandez has looked real good too.

Pass protection, pass rush, secondary: those are the keys to success. The offense will roll this year.

I'm biased (I love me some Edelman), but I agree that people err in thinking he's merely Welker's backup. When Edelman was getting some reps at RB last week one of my friends commented that the Pats must not see him as a WR and were trying to figure out whether he could make the team anywhere else; to me it's clear they are trying to find any way possible to get this guy on the field. He has elite-level quicks.

Agreed...and I'm sure the fact he played QB in college means using him on some trick plays out of the RB position would not be a huge surprise. The bottomline is BB will find ways to keep him on the field and cause match-up problems.

Does anyone think Adrian Arrington looks good? I mean is he worth picking up in a 32 team dynasty league or not?
In a 32 teamer i think he'd be worthy of a roster spot. I remember thinking he had better NFL skills than Mario Manningham had when they played together at Michigan.
he's been a training camp and/or practice squad darling for a couple of years now. it's kind of now or never for him, i think.

What is the thought on Hernandez. A few of the staff here are really high on him. I've watched some film and wasn't blown away. Is he someone that could have a really good year in this system?

Edelman is legit don't get me wrong. But from what I've read experts, training camp, and so on. Tate has more of the size and speed to be a good no 2 opposite Moss. But I think Edelman will be used in the slot and maybe a little at no 2. BUt Tate is more of a no. 2. Let me know what you guys have heard? From a Footballguys podcast.

So according to this Tate could be a good no 2 real easily. As early as this year.

I saw enough tonight to know that I'm probably taking Edelman with the last pick in my draft, especially if I have Welker.

I agree about Tate but when there lined up 4 or 5 wide... it's whoever Brady likes and they sure do throw a ton of short passes.... Trevor Price is there as well. Tough for us fantasy players (except for Moss and Welker- esp in PPR). Looks like Holt might be on the outs. I do hope they utilize the TE more this year as well as the screen pass. The will be holes for the rb's to exploit. Can't wait!

I think you are looking at this the wrong way (i.e. a more traditional way). Moss and Welker are 1A and 1B. They are always going to be on the field. After that you need to look what the others bring to the table. Right now Edelman is coming off of a very solid rookie season. When you look at the fact he was a college QB who transitioned pretty easily to a new position in the NFL it would appear he still has a lot more upside. Tate has had injury issues for two years. He appears to have some serious athletic skill. I would not be surprised to see him have some real big plays this year. Yet, as far as his Patriot career is concerned I believe the Pats are really hoping he proves he belongs in 2010 and steps up to a bigger role in 2011 when Moss maybe gone. I would be real surprised if Tate finishes within 20 overall receptions of Edelman this year and I also believe Edlman will be far more consistent on a weekly basis.

it's taylor price, and how often do you seriously expect the pats to roll out 4 or 5 wr?

The 4 players I woke up to lastnight: Moss (damn he looked spry), Shockey (leaner + a lot of looks), Edelman (they have to get this guy the ball + return yardage), Brady (arm looked live again).

Sorry, Taylor. You might be right about that but I just think they are going to get the ball into Welkers and Edelmans hands however they need to. Tate is better as a dynasty pick imo- esp if Moss leaves after this year. I'm liking the Pats draft more and more after seeing McCourty and Zoltan the punter...

You don't think he will be drafted before the last round? interesting.....

From what I can tell, it's looking more and more like Moss and Tate on the outside, Welker/Edelman in the slot. I don't think there will be alot of time with Welker and Edelman in the game together unless they go to 4 receiver sets.

Welker was running the routes that Welker would normally run, so if they want Edelman to have a bigger role it would be subbing for Welker or getting creative to have both playing together.

What I came away with is that it will be hard for Torry Holt to make the roster, and even if he does his role will be very limited if Tate plays remotely well.

BGBE got the majority of the first quarter carries and basically played with first team...Anything to read into that?
Given what I know about the Pats I'm going to be hesitant to read too much into preseason playing time.

You might be right, actually. Even if Welker looks good, somebody will probably grab Edelman earlier than the last round. My league is in New Orleans so EVERYBODY saw what Edelman did last night.
